This paper presents a new method to obtain more stable and precise A/D conversion for remote sensing use. Hardware is designed to compensate offset voltage and drift & temperature characteristics, as well as to perform dual slop A/D converter by using single chip microprocessor. Serial communication program which is based on ASCII code commands is also developed to add initial setup & calibration functions as well as to perform A/D data communication. Proposed method will give a good applications to the industrial field where a high precision remote sensing is required.
A method was described for the graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrophotometric determination of trace cadmium, copper, chromium and lead in urine samples. The elements were directly determined without any other treatments. The ash temperature was intensively optimized to improve the large background by the removal of organic materials and alkali and alkali earth metals in urine samples. Two kinds of standard solutions were used to plot calibration curves. From the recovery data, it could be confirmed that the analytical results with the synthetic urine matrix similar to real urine were more accurate than with a deionized water matrix.

Ginseng saponins were analyzed by thermospray (TSP) LCMS method using ODS column and with acetonitrile/ammonium acetate solution. Optimal condition for TSP Lchfs was found as follows: capillary temperature: 33$0^{\circ}C$ repelled voltage: 200 V, and concentration of ammonium acetate: 0. 05 M. Panaxadiol and panaxatriol type saponins showed characteristic fragment ions. The calibration curve of ginseng saponin showed good linearity with a correlation coefficient of 0.99. Detection limits using selected ion monitoring (SIM) technique were improved by 10~200 times compared to conventional HPLCnnr detection method.
This study compared the efficacy of chiral GC and chiral HPLC for the analysis of nicotine. To develop a suitable dispersive liquid-liquid microextraction (DLLME) method, the following parameters were optimized: pH, extraction solvent, dispersive solvent, type and quantity of salt, and laboratory temperature. The validation of the method was carried out by the established HPLC method. The LODs were 0.11 ㎍/mL and 0.17 ㎍/mL for the (S)- and (R)- enantiomers, respectively. The LOQs were 0.30 ㎍/mL and 0.44 ㎍/mL, respectively. The optimal calibration range was between 0.30-18 ㎍/mL and 0.44-4.40 ㎍/mL, respectively, and the correlation coefficient (r2) was 0.9978-0.9996. The intra-day accuracy was 79.9-110.6 %, and the intra-day precision was 1.3-12.0 %. The inter-day accuracy was 87.8-108.0 %, and the inter-day precision was 4.0-12.8 %. E-liquid and biological fluids (urine and saliva) were analyzed using the established method.

BITSE is a technology demonstration mission to remotely measure the speed, temperature, and density of the solar wind as it forms as close as 3 Rs. BITSE obtained coronal images during its one day flight above more than 99% of the atmosphere, and calibration data are taken in the laboratory as well as during the flight. As the linearly polarized K-corona is much fainter than other bright sources like diffraction, sky, and F-corona, a careful data reduction is required to obtain reliable scientific results. We will report status of the obtained data, the reduction progress, and future plan.

Microwave metrology for the thickness of metallic or superconductive films provides a new way to measure the film thickness in a non-invasive way by using microwave resonators, with the measurement accuracy affected by standard uncertainties in the resonator quality factor, temperature-dependent resonant frequency and the dimensions of the resonators. Here we study effects of the standard uncertainty in the thickness, $t_{cal}$, of a calibration $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) film on the measured thicknesses, $t_{RF}$, by using a ~ 40 GHz microwave resonator. For the study, we used five YBCO films having the thicknesses of 70 - 360 nm, for which relative standard uncertainties in $t_{RF}$ due to that in $t_{cal}$ are obtained. The standard uncertainty in $t_{cal}$ was determined with the surface roughness of the film taken into account. It appeared that relative standard uncertainty in $t_{cal}$ significantly affects the $t_{RF}$ values, with the values of 1% (5%) in the former resulting in those of 1-2% (5-9%) for the latter at 10 K. Our results show that, for realizing relative standard uncertainties less than 5% in $t_{RF}$ for all the YBCO films, the surface roughness of the calibration films should be small enough to realize a relative standard uncertainty of less than 2.7% in $t_{cal}$.
The disturbance zone and measured values are affected by the size of the penetrometer. The local value may be measured by the smaller penetrometer. An ultra small Micro-Cone penetrometer (5mm in outer diameter) is designed and manufactured to characterize soil properties with minimum disturbance during penetration tests. The tip resistance is measured by using stain gauges attached near the Micro-Cone. In addition, the friction sleeve is adopted to effectively remove the skin friction from the tip resistance. Design concern includes the installation of stain gauges, circuits, penetration systems, penetration rate, sampling rate, operating temperature, and calibration. Application tests show that the clay interface, and the soil layers consisting of clay and sand are clearly detected by the Micro-Cone. Furthermore, the cone tip resistances measured by the Micro-Cone and the miniature cone (16mm in outer diameter) are similar. Note the resolution is much higher in the Micro-Cone. This study shows that the Micro-Cone may effectively detect the soil interface with high resolution, and with minimum disturbance.

A numerical model has been developed by employing a finite element method to simulate the depth-averaged 2-D dispersion of the heat pollutant, which is an important pollutant material in natural streams. Among the finite element methods, the Streamline Upwind/Petrov Galerkin (SUPG) method was applied. Also both linear and quadratic elements can be applied so that irregular river boundaries can be easily represented. To show the movement of heat pollutants, the reaction term describing heat transfer was represented as an equation in which sink/source term is proportional to the difference between the equilibrium temperature and water surface temperature. The equation was expressed so that the water surface temperature changes according to the temperature transfer coefficient and the equilibrium temperature. For the calibration of the model developed, analytic and numerical results from a case of rectangular channel with full width continuous injection have been compared in a steady state. The comparisons showed that the numerical results were in good agreement with analytical solutions. The application site was selected from the downstream of Paldang dam to Jamsil submerged weir, and overall length of this site is about 22.5 km. The change of water temperature caused by the discharge from the Guri sewage treatment plant has been simulated, and results were similar to the observed data. Overall it is concluded that the developed model can represent the water temperature changes due to heat transport accurately. But the verification using observed data will further enhance the validity of the model.

In this paper, the design concept of a low-temperature vacuum blackbody was described, and thermophysical model of the blackbody was numerically evaluated. Also the working performance of low-temperature vacuum blackbody was evaluated using infrared camera system. The blackbody system was constructed to operate under high-vacuum conditions ($2.67{\times}10^{-2}$ Pa) to reduce temperature uncertainty, which is caused by vapor condensation at low temperatures usually below 273 K. In addition, both heat sink and heat shield including cold shield were installed around radiator to prevent heat loss from the blackbody. Simplified mathematical model of blackbody radiator was analyzed using modified Stefan-Boltzmann's rule. The infrared radiant performance of the blackbody was evaluated using infrared camera. Based on the results of measurements, and simulation, temperature stability of the low-temperature vacuum blackbody demonstrated that the blackbody system can serve as a highly stable reference source for the calibration of an infrared optical system.
Distributed ecohydrological model which can simulate hydrological components, vegetation and landsurface temperature using practically available input and observed data with minimum parameters is introduced. This model is designed to properly simulate in area with lack of observed data. Parameter estimation and calibration of the model can be carried out with indirectly estimated data (monthly surface runoff by NRCS-CN method and annual actual vaporization by empirical equation) and remote sensing data (NDVI, LST) instead of observed data. We applied this model in the Naeseong creek basin to evaluate the model validity. Firstly, we found the sensitive parameters which largely influence the simulation results by sensitivity analysis, and then hydrological components, vegetation, land-surface temperature, routed streamflow and water temperature were simulated over 10 years (2001 to 2010) using calibrated parameters. Parameters are estimated by optimization method. It is shown that most of grids are well simulated. In the case of streamflow and water temperature, we checked two observed points in the outlet of watershed and it is shown that streamflow and water temperature are properly simulated as well. Hence, it can be shown that this model properly simulate the hydrological components, vegetation, land-surface temperature, routed streamflow and water temperature as well, even though in despite of using limited input data and minimum parameters.
