Accurate determination of Sea Surface Temperature (SST) is essential for ocean and climate studies. This paper estimated SST in the sea region around the Korea from the Advenced Very High Resolution Radiometer(AVHRR) channel 4 data on board NOAA-9 satellite. The processing procedure used to derive SSTs utilized: 1) Ascending node prediction of satellite orbit 2) Geometric correction 3) Radiometric calibration and radiance to temperature conversion look up table 4) Removing cloudy area. SST product results are displayed as colored video and hardcopy. In this processing, geometric correction is derived from equator crossing time, ascending time and subpoint coordinate information. Also, normalized response function of infrared 10.5-11.5$\mu\textrm{m}$ wavelength is used for temperature conversion. The SST derived from this processing is relatively similar to the measurements made by ship data, but because of water vapor attenuation SST from satellite are in general 2$^{\circ}$- $^{\circ}C$ lower than the ship data.

Chrysanthemum production would benefit from crop growth simulations, which would support decision-making in crop management. Chrysanthemum is a typical short day plant of which floral initiation and development is sensitive to photoperiod. We developed a model to predict phenological development and leaf appearance of chrysanthemum (cv. Baekseon) using daylength (including civil twilight period), air temperature, and management options like light interruption and ethylene treatment as predictor variables. Chrysanthemum development stage (DVS) was divided into juvenile (DVS=1.0), juvenile to budding (DVS=1.33), and budding to flowering (DVS=2.0) phases for which different strategies and variables were used to predict the development toward the end of each phenophase. The juvenile phase was assumed to be completed at a certain leaf number which was estimated as 15.5 and increased by ethylene application to the mother plant before cutting and the transplanted plant after cutting. After juvenile phase, development rate (DVR) before budding and flowering were calculated from temperature and day length response functions, and budding and flowering were completed when the integrated DVR reached 1.33 and 2.0, respectively. In addition the model assumed that leaf appearance terminates just before budding. This model predicted budding date, flowering date, and leaf appearance with acceptable accuracy and precision not only for the calibration data set but also for the validation data set which are independent of the calibration data set.
GEO-KOMPSAT-2A AMI (Advanced Meteorological Imager) radiometric calibration evaluation is an essential element not only for functional and performance verification of the payload but for the quality of the sensor data. AMI instrument consists of six reflective channels and ten thermal infrared ones. One of the key parameters representing radiometric properties of the sensor is a SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio) for the reflective channels and a NEdT (Noise Equivalent delta Temperature) for the IR ones respectively. Other important radiometric calibration parameters are a dynamic range and a gain value related with the responsivity of detectors. To verify major radiometric calibration performance of AMI, an offline radiometric evaluation tool was developed separately with a real-time AMI data processing system. Using the evaluation tool, validation activities were carried out during the GEO-KOMPSAT-2A In-Orbit Test period. The results from the evaluation tool were cross checked with those of the HARRIS, which is the AMI payload vendor. AMI radiometric evaluation activities were conducted through three phases for both sides (Side 1 and Side 2) of AMI payload. Results showed that performances of the key radiometric properties were outstanding with respect to the radiometric requirements of the payload. The effectiveness of the evaluation tool was verified as well.

The thin SiC filament technique has been employed to identify the possibility of measuring flame temperature, and especially unstable near-extinction flame temperature in an oxidizer deficient ambience, by comparing the relative visible (non-IR) luminosities of SiC filaments with thermocouple measured temperature in co-flowing, laminar propane/air diffusion flames. The results show good agreement between the digitized relative visible luminosity profiles of the SiC filaments and temperature profiles measured using a thermocouple at temperatures above $700^{\circ}C$, although, a non-linear calibration is probably required far the whole temperature range. The highest radial peak temperature exists near to the nozzle exit. and the centerline temperatures were virtually unchanged with increasing flame height in an oxidizer deficient near-extinction flame.

High junction temperature directly or indirectly affects the optical performance and reliability of high power LEDs in many ways. This paper is focused on junction temperature characterization of LEDs. High power LEDs (3W) were tested in temperature steps to reach a thermal equilibrium condition between the chamber and the LEDs. The LEDs were generated by pulsed currents with duty ratios (0.091% and 0.061%) in multiple steps from 0mA and 700mA. The diode forward voltages corresponding to the short pulsed currents were monitored to correlate junction temperatures with the forward voltage responses for calibration measurement. In junction temperature measurement, forward voltage responses at different current levels were used to estimate junction temperatures. Finally junction temperatures in multiple steps of currents were estimated in effectively controlled conditions for designing the reliability of LEDs.
This work was to calibrate Anton Paar 512P vibrating tube densimeter which is a special type for density measurement under high pressure (up to 70 MPa) and temperature (up to 420 K) and checked the validity of the new apparatus. Calibration was peformed with water, nitrogen and water, vacuum as reference fluids. Temperature is measured from 313.15 K and 353.15 K at 10 K intervals, and pressure is measured up to 30 MPa at 5 MPa intervals, respectively. To check the validity of new apparatus and the calibration method we compared the values obtained by measuring density of carbon dioxide with those given by NIST Thermophysical Properties of Pure Fluids Database. The average deviations between the NIST and the experimental data were $0.3\%$ with water and nitrogen as reference fluids.

We have built the close range Dicke type radiometer with 35GHz of frequency, which consists of two stage low noise amplifier and diode detector to calibrate temperatures of materials. We have present thermal calibration methods using millimeter-wave radiometer. Output voltages linearly increase with temperatures between 299K and 309K. We are able to measure lower temperature using the liquid nitrogen although results are somewhat unstable.
In mm-VLBI, the quality of observation data is largely affected by atmospheric effect. The most challenging matter is that the phase of correlator output fluctuates rapidly resulting from a variation of atmospheric propagation delay. Consequently, it is demanding to achieve high Signal-to-Noise ratio by integrating data in time domain before calibrating atmospheric delay. However, Korean VLBI Network (KVN) has a unique system to make a 4-frequency (22/43/86/129 GHz) simultaneous observation in mm-wavelength and Frequency Phase Transfer (FPT) calibration technique has effectively removed atmospheric delay in the simultaneous multi-frequency observation of the KVN. For astrometric and astrophysical studies, we evaluated the FPT performance of KVN in various observing conditions. Using the total 38 bright AGNs, we have compared atmospheric conditions such as ground-based weather information, system temperature, atmospheric delay with the calibration results of FPT at 22/43/86/129 GHz during the five experiments in 2013, and quantified its performance in terms of coherence function and Allan variance. We present the analysis result of the relation between the FPT performance and observing conditions.
Visible channel calibration method using deep convective clouds (DCCs) is developed. The method has advantages that visible radiance is not sensitive to cloud optical thickness (COT) for deep convective clouds because visible radiance no longer increases when COT exceeds 100. Therefore, once DCCs are chosen appropriately, and then cloud optical properties can be assumed without operational ancillary data for the specification of cloud conditions in radiative transfer model. In this study, it is investigated whether IR measurements can be used for the selection of DCC targets. To construct appropriate threshold value for the selection of DCCs, the statistics of cloud optical properties are collected with MODIS measurements. When MODIS brightness temperature (TB) at 11 ${\mu}$ m is restricted to be less than 190 K, it is shown that more than 85% of selected pixels show COT ${\geq}$ 100. Moreover, effective radius ($r_e$) distribution shows a sharp peak around 20 ${\mu}m$. Based on those MODIS observations, cloud optical properties are assumed as COT = 200 and $r_e$ = 20 ${\mu}m$ for the simulation of MODIS visible (0.646 ${\mu}m$) band radiances over DCC targets.
We present the results of KaVA SgrA* observation together with Takahagi(32m), Yamaguchi(32m) and Nobeyama(45m) telescopes at 22 and 43GHz, respectively. In early 2014, G2 cloud was expected to encounter with SgrA* and to make a significant flux variation, but it has not been measured yet. So it's worth to check our amplitude calibration method to confirm if we have a missing flux caused by uncertainty in measuring it. We have tested both a standard method using system noise temperature(Tsys) with antenna gain information, and a template method in order to calibrate antenna gain using nearby maser source. As a result, we found that the latter method is useful for antennas which have inaccurate gain information or poor Tsys measurements, and is especially effective for sources at low elevation like SgrA*. In addition, the comparison shows that the amplitude calibration by standard method can be improved up to 10% with a correction factor using a template method. This result implies we can get more accurate flux from a standard method when any maser source not exists around target.
