Optimal Price Strategy Selection for MVNOs in Spectrum Sharing: An Evolutionary Game Approach

  • The optimal price strategy selection of two bounded rational cognitive mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) in a duopoly spectrum sharing market is investigated. The bounded rational operators dynamically compete to sell the leased spectrum to secondary users in order to maximize their profits. Meanwhile, the secondary users' heterogeneous preferences to rate and price are taken into consideration. The evolutionary game theory (EGT) is employed to model the dynamic price strategy selection of the MVNOs taking into account the response of the secondary users. The behavior dynamics and the evolutionary stable strategy (ESS) of the operators are derived via replicated dynamics. Furthermore, a reward and punishment mechanism is developed to optimize the performance of the operators. Numerical results show that the proposed evolutionary algorithm is convergent to the ESS, and the incentive mechanism increases the profits of the operators. It may provide some insight about the optimal price strategy selection for MVNOs in the next generation cognitive wireless networks.

  • There are many researches investigating a causal relationship among service performance level, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty. It is believed that a high service performance level increases customer satisfaction, which again has a significant effect on customer loyalty and profitability. The premise in this work is that the effect of customer satisfaction on customer loyalty may be time-lagged. This paper aims to model a causal relationship among service performance level, customer satisfaction, and customer loyalty with such a time-lag consideration. This study is conducted on the very high-speed digital subscriber lines service, which is a highly advanced high-speed internet service, and the results also be discussed.

  • Today, many companies realize that the effort to develop new products / services faster that customers want and continue to purchase is crucial for their survival. As the service sector is rapidly growing, one of the challenges faced by the service industries is the lack of effective methodologies for new service development. This paper proposes a systematic framework for developing new service concepts, with an emphasis on generating innovative, convergence-type service concepts from the customer‘s perspective. The framework consists of three phases-identification of customer needs (Phase I), extraction of new service opportunities (Phase II), and generation of new service concepts (Phase III). The proposed framework is demonstrated through a case study in the telecommunications industry. In the case study, a survey was conducted on ten customers to identify the latent customer needs; 61 new service opportunities were extracted; and 129 new service concepts were generated.

정보통신 서비스의 실패 요인: 한국의 텔레콤 서비스시장에서의 실패사례연구 (An Exploratory Study for the Telecommunications Service Failure Cases in South Korea)

  • In this paper, 15 South Korean telecommunications service failure cases were analyzed. Through the in-depth case study, 8 factors were found to be the major causes contributing to the telecommunications service failure. They were (1) ineffective marketing, (2) poor demand forecasting due to misjudgment of customer preference, (3) failure to satisfy technical specifications, (4) loss of cost advantage due to the price cut of competing services or new entry with lower price, (5) loss of utility advantage due to the increased utility of competing services or new entry with higher utility (6) decrease of market attractiveness due to change of customer preference, (7) impact of government policy, and (8) insufficient or low quality of contents. Additional analysis was done to derive managerial implications to the new telecommunications service development strategy. The findings from the paper will provide valuable Insight to the successful Implementation of new service development and service provisioning processes.

Modeling the Price-Reduction Effect in Mobile Telecommunications Traffic

  • As needs for telecommunications services diversify, an increasingly wide range of telecommunications services is becoming available in the market. Any subscriber can find a service to satisfy his/her telecommunication requirements and competition between providers to retain heavy users is increasing. Service price reductions are one retention strategy, although price reductions for one service can affect the individual-level usage for other services. Price reductions can also be imposed on a service provider by regulation. For these reasons, understanding how price reductions affect service usage is of growing importance to the telecommunications industry for purposes of pricing and tariff development. In this paper, we develop an individual-level usage model for telecommunications services and analyze the effects on usage of a price reduction. We apply the model to age-stratified aggregate traffic data for a Korean mobile telecommunication service provider. Finally, we develop a model to support a market segmentation and price reduction strategy.

A New Venture Performance Model in the Korean Information and Telecommunications Industry

  • In this paper, we investigate on the determinants of new venture performance empirically and suggest a new venture performance model in the Korean Information and Telecommunications (IT) industry. A total of seven hypotheses is established and tested using a combination of factor analysis, cluster analysis, analysis of variance, and correlation analysis. Ninety-two sample ventures in the Korean IT industry were investigated and analyzed to test hypotheses. We found that new ventures performance depends on their environment, strategy, internal resources factors, and, most importantly, two-way and three-way interactions of these factors. These findings could be interpreted as supporting the general strategy theory that when environment and internal resources and fitted, performance might be maximized and, further, strategy is the means that make internal resources and environment fit. The venture performance model presented in this paper can explain how new ventures achieve their successes. The strategic implications to the venture firms are also discussed.

  • 최근 온라인게임, e-Book, 모바일콘텐츠, 포털 등 IT 기반의 새로운 서비스 산업으로서 디지털콘텐츠 산업이 급성장하고 있다. 또한, 과거 엔터테인먼트 위주의 콘텐츠산업이 미래에는 제조, 서비스를 포함한 전 산업영역에 체화융합되어 확산되고, CT 및 IT 기반의 새로운 콘텐츠 산업이 급성장할 것으로 전망되는 등 융합형 콘텐츠에 대한 관심이 증대되고 있다. 정부에서도 신성장동력으로서의 융합형 콘텐츠 산업에 주목하여, 관련 산업을 발굴육성하는데 정책적 관심을 기울이고 있다. 기존의 콘텐츠 분류체계는 영화, 음악, 방송 등 장르 중심적이어서 관련 기술의 발전 및 융합현상을 제대로 반영하지 못하는 한계점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 미래 정책추진의 기반(base)로서 효과적으로 활용되고, 콘텐츠 분야의 외연확장을 포괄하는 새로운 분류체계(taxonomy)의 정립이 요구되는 상황이다. 이에 본 고에서는 미래 정책추진 및 산업활성화에 초점을 맞추어 기존 분류체계의 한계점을 극복하는 차세대 융합형 콘텐츠 산업에 대한 새로운 분류체계를 제시하고자 한다.

  • Consumer needs becomes various in a mature mobile telecommunication market, while service differentiation is hard to achieve. The competition among telecommunication service providers is getting fierce in order to maintain and obtain customers. Moreover, HSDPA caused the intense marketing activity for the move to the next generation customers. Under these circumstances, brand equity can be a key to a long-term competitive edge for mobile phone service providers. In this study, we identified the factors influencing mobile telecommunication brand equity, and its influence on the HSDPA service subscription behavior.

An Offloading Strategy for Multi-User Energy Consumption Optimization in Multi-MEC Scene

  • Mobile edge computing (MEC) is capable of providing services to smart devices nearby through radio access networks and thus improving service experience of users. In this paper, an offloading strategy for the joint optimization of computing and communication resources in multi-user and multi-MEC overlapping scene was proposed. In addition, under the condition that wireless transmission resources and MEC computing resources were limited and task completion delay was within the maximum tolerance time, the optimization problem of minimizing energy consumption of all users was created, which was then further divided into two subproblems, i.e. offloading strategy and resource allocation. These two subproblems were then solved by the game theory and Lagrangian function to obtain the optimal task offloading strategy and resource allocation plan, and the Nash equilibrium of user offloading strategy games and convex optimization of resource allocation were proved. The simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm could effectively reduce the energy consumption of users.
