Technological Achievements and Economic Development: The Significance of Technological Achievement Gap in Selected East and South Asian Countries

  • Although technological progress is considered a key element for economic growth and development of a country, strong empirical evidence in this regard is not available yet. Therefore, to establish the empirical link between technology progress and economic development, it is advisable to carry out a time series analysis. In this regard, the Technology Achievement Index (TAI) of 100 top economies has been developed to examine the position of countries' technological progress for the 21 years spanning 1995 to 2015. Countries have been ranked on their TAI which is based on four pillars; technology creation, diffusion of older innovations, diffusion of recent innovations, and development of human skills. As well, this current study re-calculates the Humane Development Index (HDI) of 100 top economies for the 21 years from 1995 to 2015. Ranking of countries' HDI values reflects three dimensions: A long lifespan (life expectancy index), knowledge (Education Index) and a decent standard of living (Gross National Income Index, or GNI). The Standard Deviation (SD) technique has been used to investigate the technological gap between individual countries and groups of countries or regions. For a more meaningful assessment, technological gaps from the maximum achievement value (i.e., one of the countries under study) are presented as well. To investigate the impact of technological progress on economic development, this study introduces a model in which the HDI is used as the dependent variable and the TAI and Gross Capital Formation (GCF) are used as independent variables. The HDI, TAI and GCF are used in this model as proxy variables for economic development, technological progress and capital respectively. Econometric techniques have been used to show the impact of technological progress on economic development. The results show that long-term associations exist between technology progress and economic development; the impact of technology progress on economic development is 13.2% while the impact is 4.3% higher in eight selected East South Asian countries, at 13.5%, than in eight selected highly developed countries (9.2%).

Global STI Capacity Index: Comparison and Achievement Gap Analysis of National STI Capacities

  • Science, technology and innovation (STI) is crucially important to eradicating poverty, and making advances in various areas such as agriculture, health, environment, transport, industry, and telecommunications. Therefore, it is vital to the overall socioeconomic development of nations. The indispensable role of STI in the competitive globalized economy led to several attempts to measure national STI capacities. The present study outlines STI capacity around three sets of capabilities: technological capabilities, social capabilities, and common capabilities. The Global Science, Technology and Innovation Capacity (GSTIC) index was developed to provide current evidence on the national STI capacities of the countries, and to improve the composite indicators used for such purposes. The GSTIC ranks a large number of countries (167) on the basis of their STI capacities and categories them into four groups: i.e. leaders, dynamic adopters, slow adopters, and laggards. For more meaningful assessment of the STI capacities of nations, it captures the achievement gaps of individual countries with the highest achiever. The study also provides ranking and achievement gaps of nations in the nine GSTIC pillars: technology creation, R&D capacity, R&D performance, technology absorption, diffusion of old technologies, diffusion of recent innovations, exposure to foreign technology, human capital, and enabling factors. A more detailed analysis of the strengths and weaknesses in different pillars of STI capacity of ten selected countries is also provided. The results show that there are significant disparities among nations in STI capacity and its various aspects, and developing countries have much to catch-up with the developed nations. However, different countries may adopt different strategies according to their strengths and weaknesses. Useful insight into the strengths and weaknesses of the national STI capacities of different countries are provided in the study.

간호학과 신입생의 성격유형, 학습스타일과 학업성취도의 관계 (The Relationship between Personality Types, Learning Style, and Academic Achievement in First Year Nursing Students)

  • 본 연구는 간호학과 신입생들의 성격유형과 학습스타일, 학업성취도 간의 상관성을 탐구하기 위해 시행되었다. 간호학과 신입생 144명을 대상으로 2018년 3월 6일부터 5월 18일 까지 자료를 수집하였다. 결과 분석은 빈도와 백분율, 평균 및 표준편차, t-test와 ANOVA, Chi-square test 그리고 Pearson correlation coefficient로 확인하였다. 연구 대상자의 성격유형은 외향적 성향(58.3%)이 내향적 성향 보다 많았으며 감각적 성향(66.7%)과 감정형(77.8%)이 직관적 성향과 사고형 보다 많았고 판단형(50.7%)이 인지형 보다 많았다. 학업성취도는 여학생이 남학생 보다 높았고(t=3.277, p<.001), 내향적 성향이 외향적 성향 보다 높았다(t=3.541, p<.001). 성격유형별 학습스타일의 차이는 판단형이 다른 성격 유형간에 통계적으로 유의미한 차이를 보였다(${\chi}^2=18.409$, p<.001). 성별과 TF지표(r=.209, p<.05), 성별과 학업성취도(r=.265, p<.01), JP지표와 학습스타일(r=.262, p<.01), EI지표와 학업성취도(r=.285, p<.01) 사이에 유의한 양의 상관관계가 나타났다. 본 연구를 통해 확인된 간호학과 신입생의 성격유형, 학습스타일, 학업성취도 결과를 바탕으로 개인에게 적합한 교수-학습법의 개발 및 활용이 필요할 것이다.

학업성취도 평가를 통한 강의평가 타당성 제고 및 수업태도에 대한 보정을 통한 강의만족도 신뢰성 제고 (Improving the Validity of Evaluation through Evaluating Academic Achievement and Enhancing the Reliability of Satisfaction of Teaching through Correction of In-class Attitude)

  • 이 연구는 강의평가의 대상에 학업성취도를 추가하여 평가의 타당성을 높이고, 수업태도에 대한 통제정당성을 검증하고 수업태도 보정지수를 개발하여 평가의 신뢰성을 높이기 위한 목적으로 실시하였다. 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 학생의 수업태도는 강의만족도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 수업태도가 긍정적일수록 강의만족도가 높아지고, 수업태도가 부정적일수록 강의만족도가 낮아지는 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 학생의 수업태도는 학업성취도에 유의미한 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 수업태도가 긍정적일수록 학업성취도가 높으며, 수업태도가 부정적일수록 학업성취도가 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 셋째, 강의만족도는 학업성취도에 유의미한 영향을 미치지 못하는 것으로 확인되었다. 강의만족도가 높다고 해서 강의품질이 높다고 할 수 없으며, 강의만족도가 낮다고 해서 강의품질이 낮다고 할 수 없다는 의미이다. 넷째, 수업태도로 인해 왜곡될 수 있는 강의만족도 결과를 보정하기 위한 강의만족도 보정지수를 개발하였다. 결론적으로 강의만족도외에 학업성취도를 평가대상으로 추가하여 강의평가의 타당성을 제고하고, 강의만족도 보정지수를 적용하여 강의평가의 신뢰성을 제고해야 한다.

공공데이터 개방 정책이 공공 혁신에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Influence of Open Data Policies on Public Innovation)

  • Nowadays, the policy of open data disclosure has become one of the globally used tools for public innovation. For this reason, this study investigates whether the policy has eventually created the achievement of public innovation in Korea. To this end, this study evaluates qualities of the fourteen thousand open data in Korea that is disclosed to the public and compares it with indexes such as the usage of data, transparency index, and Government 3.0 Excellency Index, which are regarded as the outcome of the disclosure. Based on the result, this study aims to suggest future orientation for the policy.

The Development of New Cost-Effective Optimization Technology for OLED Market Entry

  • Purpose - This study aims to improve the distribution structure of the OLED market and develop cost-effective optimization techniques. Specifically, it is a study on the optimization of ferric chloride to improve the etch of SUS MASK for OLED. Research design, data, and methodology - Applying the optimal conditions of the experiment, the final confirmation was evaluated for improvement by the Process Capability Index (Cpk). It is possible to derive social performance such as improvement of precision of SUS MASK manufacturing, economic performance such as defect rate, reduction of waste generation and treatment cost, technological achievement such as SUS MASK production technology, improvement of profit structure of technology development and process improvement do. Results - The improvement of the Cpk before the improvement was made was confirmed to be 0.57% with a defect estimate of 25.07% with a failure estimate of 0.57% after the improvement, and 8.84% with a failure estimate of 0.57% level after the improvement. Conclusions - If the conclusions obtained from the specimen experiment are applied to the manufacturing process of SUS MASK, it will be possible to expect excellent cost-effective competitiveness due to the improvement of precision and reduction of defect rate to enhance the OLED market penetration.

국가 인력양성사업 성과에 영향을 미치는 요인 분석: 에너지인력양성사업을 대상으로 (Factors Affecting the Performance of National Human Resource Development Projects: Focusing Energy HRD Projects)

  • 본 연구는 에너지 인력양성사업을 중심으로 국가의 R&D 사업의 성과를 분석하고, 성과지표 개선방안을 찾는 데 주목적이 있다. 주요 분석대상은 2010년 이래 지원된 86개 에너지인력양성사업이다. 에너지인력양성사업의 성과지표는 연구역량이나 배출인원, 산학연계 정도, 고용창출 등과 관련되어 있는데 KPI index로 지칭되는 11개 항목의 인력양성 성과지표를 많이 활용해 분석하였다. 과제별로 제시된 목표치의 달성 수준을 분석한 결과 평균적으로 달성도가 가장 높은 지수는 기업연계율이며, 달성도가 가장 낮은 지수는 참여기업 취업인원인 것으로 나타났다. 기업연계활동의 핵심 고용창출효과를 살펴본 결과 인턴십의 횟수가 많을수록 에너지 분야 고용창출효과가 큰 것으로 나타났으며, 전문가강의의 수가 많을수록 참여기업 취업인원이 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 분석결과는 다음과 같은 시사점을 제시하고 있다. 첫째, 사업운영 과정에 대한 지표인 기업연계 활동 자체보다 이를 통해 나타나는 취업 등 핵심 성과에 더 초점을 맞춘 성과지표 재설계와 관리가 필요하다. 둘째, 사업의 질적 성과를 표현할 수 있는 지표와 실제적인 기업연계를 표현할 수 있는 성과지표를 추가하는 방안을 고려할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 정책적 성과목표 및 주요 목표 집단 등에 따라 차별화된 성과관리가 필요하다. 마지막으로 성과지표의 정비와 더불어 정보입력 및 축적 시스템 개선이 필요하다.

일부 치위생학과 학생들의 행복지수에 미치는 영향요인 (Factors Affecting Dental Hygiene Students' Happiness Index)

  • 다양한 이유로 치위생과에 입학한 학생들 중 국가고시에 대한 스트레스와 학교생활에 어려움을 가지고 있는 학생들의 스트레스 해소와 만족스러운 학과생활을 위한 상담 및 교육 프로그램의 개발의 기초자료를 제공하고자 충청, 경상지역의 213명의 치위생(학)과 재학생들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실행하였다. SPSS 3.0으로 분석한 결과 행복지수는 21점 만점에 평균 16.32점으로 만족감이 15.17점으로 가장 높았으며, 긍정정서가 13.79점, 부정정서가 12,64점으로 나타났으며, 성별, 성격, 친구관계, 학업성취도, 용돈 만족도, 건강상태에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 보였다. 전공만족도에서는 성격, 친구관계, 진학동기, 전강상태에서 통계적으로 유의한 차이를 나타냈고, 행복지수와 전공만족도는 통계적으로 유의한 상관관계를 갖는 것으로 나타났다.

구조방정식 모델을 이용한 중소기업의 IT화 성공지수(ITSI) 개발 연구 (Structural Equation Model for Information Technologization Success Index(ITSI) of Small and Medium Enterprise)

  • OECD countries including Korea positively adopt performance-based budget systems which convert an input-centered system to an output-centered system to solve two baffling problems: public expense retrenchment and efficiency recovery of government management. Output management of IT project propelled in public sector becomes a prominent figure influenced by these keynote of policy. However, it is placed in difficult circumstances to develop a performance index and the methodology to cover characteristics of IT project, measuring the goal achievement of business and the customer contentment according to the phases of business progress. Existing studies of IT project accomplishment measurement have been fulfilled on the subject of business targeting on IT technology application, administrative information network business and national base of information network construction. Most of the studies have been executed using BSC or AHP to reflect synthetically business specifics of IT project from a methodological point of view. In this study, we propose a structural equation model (SEM) to develop a performance index which measures the outcome of IT project according to the phases of business progress, avoiding a simple presentation of project outcome or conceptual frame. The proposed SEM is applied to the survey results of "IT support project for Small and medium business". Based on the fitted model, we apply ACSI concept to develop an Information Technologization Success Index (ITSI). This index allows us comparison of several IT vendors as well as feedback information for further improvement.

A novel first order refined shear-deformation beam theory for vibration and buckling analysis of continuously graded beams

  • In this work, a novel first-order shear deformation beam theory is applied to explore the vibration and buckling characteristics of thick functionally graded beams. The material properties are assumed to vary across the thickness direction in a graded form and are estimated by a power-law model. A Fourier series-based solution procedure is implemented to solve the governing equation derived from Hamilton's principle. The obtained results of natural frequencies and buckling loads of functionally graded beam are checked with those supplied in the literature and demonstrate good achievement. Influences of several parameters such as power law index, beam geometrical parameters, modulus ratio and axial load on dynamic and buckling behaviors of FGP beams are all discussed.
