산업 기술경쟁력 조사 방안 (How to Investigate Competitiveness of Industrial Technologies)

  • Industrial technological competitiveness is the major issue for many countries. therefore, many experts have concerned with how to measure competitiveness of industrial technologies. The purpose of this paper was to suggest the reasonable methodology of investigating competitiveness of industrial technologies. For such reasons, the technological competitiveness should analyzed on national, industrial an d firm level. In Korean case of the technological competitiveness has been assessed and analyzed industrial vision or target and looking for industrial demand survey for growing industries or requiring to investment of a large scale in dimension, such as 'Growing Engine Industries for Next Generation' However, it has not made a. thorough and systematic study on the assessment and analysis of the technological competitiveness, on this account developing of a systemic method and taking proper process of the technological competitiveness in industrial sector, and buildup the database system in adoptable real firms in sector. This paper will provide political counterproposal by surveying, assessing, and analyzing for technological competitiveness objectively through it can be leaded by technological innovations.

특허분석을 통한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Technological Competitiveness of Aircraft Infra Industries by using Patents)

  • This paper considers the technological competitiveness of aircraft infra industries that are bases of the aircraft industry development in Korea. We performed focus group interviews to aircraft industry specialists and classified the aircraft infra industries by eight fields: metallurgical assembly, general machinery, precision instruments, materials & parts, communication appliances, computer, semi-conductor/ electronic component, electronics. Through the United States patents analysis for the G7 countries and Korea during 1995-2006, we identified the technological specificities and competences of each country. RTA(Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII(Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, we introduced TCI(Technological Competitiveness Index) which could reflect quantitative level as well as qualitative level of patents for each aircraft infra industry. The results show that Korea has occupied the technological competitiveness in the semi-conductor and electronic component industry out of eight aircraft infra industries, and achieved a competitive edge in communication appliance industry in the mid 2000s.

The Effects of Technological Capabilities and Entrepreneurship on Technological Innovation of Technology-based Start-ups in Korea

  • This paper analyses how technological capabilities and entrepreneurship of technology-based start-ups affect their performance. In this paper, a multiple regression analysis was conducted on 248 technology-based start-ups. The effects of indicators of technological capacity like R&D intensity, R&D organization, technology competitiveness, patents, and certification were analyzed. Factors affecting sales were R&D intensity and technological competitiveness. Technology competitiveness and patents were the significant factors influencing product competitiveness. The factor that positively influenced organizational performance, customer performance, and achievement of start-up goals was technological competitiveness. The results of such an analysis should be designed to discover and foster long-term innovation potential, rather than relying on short-term financial performance.

Discourse Analysis of Environmental Regulations and Technological Innovation for Corporate Competitiveness

  • Purpose - This article aims to explore the mechanism in which environmental regulations have positive effects on corporate competitiveness through technological innovation. This study also attempts to examine the relationship between environmental regulation and corporate competitiveness from a technological innovation perspective and explore a desirable relationship between those two. Research design, data, and methodology - Discourse analysis and SWOT analysis is used in terms of methodology, and this study is based on literature review theoretically. The methodology is employed in various ways to describe a variety of environmental issues. Result - The results support that technological innovation is able to play a role in coordinating relationship between environmental regulations and corporate competitiveness. The uncertainty and time lag problems innate to technological innovation function as disturbing factors for individual companies to actively increase R&D investment in response to environmental regulations. Environmental regulations may be considered to be working as a factor consolidating corporate competitiveness through technological innovation to respond to the environmental regulations including climate change issue. Conclusion - This study proposes that to achieve two goals of environmental protection and corporate competitiveness consolidation, policy support from various aspects is implied to be required. This implies that environmental regulations and technical innovation must be harmoniously balanced for future corporate success.

  • This paper identifies a set of appropriate imbedded technology in the Korean electronic industry, and explores a relationship between competitiveness of imbedded technology and technological competitiveness. The results of statistical analyses, based on a survey of manufacturing organizations, show that competitiveness of imbedded technology has a high correlation with technological competitiveness. Especially, the imbedded technology related to management practices is more important to technological competitiveness than other imbedded technology. it is also observed using multiplicate analysis that cross-functional interface and R&D commitment have a strong influence on the competitiveness of imbedded technology.

한국의 산업 유형별 기술경쟁력 패턴 (Technological Competitiveness of the Korean Industries)

  • This study aims to evaluate and identify the patterns of the technological competitiveness of the Korean industry. Such statistics as R&D expenditure and R&D manpower as input indexes, US patent registrations and export sales as output indexse were used. It was turned out that such industrial types as specialized-suppliers industries, scale-intensive industries and science-intensive industries showed relatively strong technical competitiveness. However, resource-intensive industries and labor-intensive industries which had maintained a competitive advantage in the 1970s and the 1980s appeared to be gradually losing their technological competitiveness. These results are by and large in accordance with the trends of export performance. This study conducted the canonical discriminant analysis in order to test the correctness of the patterns displayed in the technological competitiveness of the Korean industry. The result of the analysis showed that the five patterns of technical strength of the Korean industries are significantly independent each other for four respective variables which are used to distinguish industries. This implies that the ex ante industrial classification into five types was correct in terms of the ex post statistics, and that the patterns of technological competitiveness discovered in this study are also statistically correct.

특허정보를 활용한 항공기반산업의 기술경쟁력 분석 (The Technological Competitiveness Analysis of Aircraft-based Industries using Patent Information)

  • This paper analyzes the technological competitiveness of aircraft-based industries that are the basis for the development of aircraft industry in Korea. By performing expert interviews with industry specialists in the field of aircraft technology, the paper categorizes eight fields that are fundamental to the development of the aircraft industry. By analyzing patents of G7 countries and Korea made in the US from 1995 to 2006 we were able to identify the technological specificities and competencies of each country. RTA (Revealed Technology Advantage) index and CII (Current Impact Index) are used to examine the technological specificity and technological competence respectively. Finally, by introducing the TCI (Technological Competitiveness Index) the paper is able to consider both the quantitative level and the qualitative level of patents for each field in the aircraft industry. By analyzing the TCI, the paper concludes that Korea has high technological prowess centered around IT industries such as semi-conductors/ electronics component, communication appliances and consumer electronics. Also Korea is relatively competitive in the precision instruments industry.

  • This study is aimed at development a plan to strengthen the competitiveness in technology of small and medium manufacturing enterprises, which can be assumed mainly by small and medium manufacturing companies, to improve the competitiveness of domestic industry. To remove these obstacles and strengthen the technological competitiveness, internally it is required to change the attitude of management about the development and innovation of technology first. Promotion of favorable atmosphere for the technological development and organized activity to acquire technological information are additional requirements. In conclusion, to survive the competition and to secure national industrial competitiveness, each individual company needs to endeavor for technological innovation and improvement in product quality and productivity.

혁신형 중소기업을 위한 기술지원정책 연구 (A Study of Technical Support Policy for Innovative SMEs)

  • 본 연구에서는 중소기업 R&D 투자 지체와 정부지원 보완이라는 문제의식에 기인하여 중소기업 기술지원정책과 기술경쟁력과의 관계를 실증 분석하였다. 분석 결과를 종합하면, 다음과 같이 두 가지의 결과를 도출할 수 있다. 첫째, 중소기업 기술경쟁력에 영향을 주는 기술지원정책은 기술 자금세제지원, 기술인프라지원 등 직접적인 R&D 지원정책이 기술경쟁력에 높은 영향을 나타냈으며, 기업특성에 따라 1차협력기업 5~49인(소규모 기업) 제조업의 특성을 가진 혁신형 중소기업이 기술지원정책과 기술 경쟁력간 긍정적 영향 관계가 높은 것으로 분석되었다. 결국 정책자금, 투자유치, 대출 확대 등으로 기술자금지원을 늘려야 하며 그 가운데서도 고성장 혁신형 중소기업 육성을 위한 전략적 R&D 자원배분과 연구인력지원 강화가 필요하다는 것을 시사점으로 제시하였다.
