  • The nuclear power industry in the world has recognized the importance of integrating non-technical and team skills training with the technical training given to its control room operators to reduce human errors since the Three Mile Island and Chernobyl accidents. The Nuclear power plant (NPP) industry in Korea has been also making efforts to reduce the human errors which largely have contributed to 120 nuclear reactor trips from the year 2001 to 2006. The Crew Resource Management (CRM) training was one of the efforts to reduce the human errors in the nuclear power industry. The CRM was developed as a response to new insights into the causes of aircraft accidents which followed from the introduction of flight recorders and cockpit voice recorders into modern jet aircraft. The CRM first became widely used in the commercial airline industry, but military aviation, shipboard crews, medical and surgical teams, offshore oil crews, and other high-consequence, high-risk, time-critical industry teams soon followed. This study aims to develop a CRM training program that helps to improve plant performance by reducing the number of reactor trips caused by the operators' errors in Korean NPP. The program is; firstly, based on the work we conducted to develop a human factors training from the applications to the Nuclear Power Plant; secondly, based on a number of guidelines from the current practicable literature; thirdly, focused on team skills, such as leadership, situational awareness, teamwork, and communication, which have been widely known to be critical for improving the operational performance and reducing human errors in Korean NPPs; lastly, similar to the event-based training approach that many researchers have applied in other domains: aircraft, medical operations, railroads, and offshore oilrigs. We conducted an experiment to test effectiveness of the CRM training program in a condition of simulated control room also. We found that the program made the operators' attitudes and behaviors be improved positively from the experimental results. The more implications of the finding were discussed further in detail.

Changes in creative activity have led to a change in the organization of the work of institutes engaged in the training of specialists, in particular teachers of labor education. Methods and approaches to training determine the development of creative industries, being the basis for models of professional training of future teachers of labor training. The purpose of an article was to develop a modern model of professional training of future teachers of labor training based on the concept of creative economy. The methodology is based on the concepts of holistic craft and creative economy. Based on the integration of pedagogical learning models "Craft as design and problem-solving", "Craft as skill and knowledge building", "Craft as product-making" and "Craft as self-expression" developed and experimentally confirmed the conceptual model of professional training of future teachers of labor training. The proposed model forms a practitioner with professional, technical, digital and creative skills who is able to transfer the experience to students. The training course "Creativity and creative thinking" has been developed. The model provided for the development of a course based on the strategy of developing professional creativity, flexibility, improvisation, openness, student activity, joint practice, student-oriented approach. The practical value implies the adaptation of the developed model of professional training of future teachers of labor education during the training of teachers in higher education, which is confirmed in the experiment.

  • The development of ICT has led positive aspects such as popularization of Internet. It, on the other hand, is causing a negative aspect, Cyber Terror. Although the causes for recent and continuous increase of cyber security incidents are various such as lack of technical and institutional security measure, the main cause which threatens the cyber security is the users' lack of awareness and attitude. The purpose of this study is the positive analysis of how the personal and job characteristics influence the cyber security training participation rate and the response ability to cyber terror response training with a sample case of K-corporation employees. In this paper, the relationship among career, gender, department, whether he/she is a cyber security specialist, whether he/she is a regular employee), "ratio of cyber security training courses during recent three years", "ratio that he/she has opened the malicious email in cyber terror response training during recent three years", "response index of virus active-x installation (higher index means poorer response)" is closely examined. Moreover, based on the examination result, the practical and political implications regarding K-corporation's cyber security courses and cyber terror response training are studied.

  • Objective: To establish a cost-effective and easily available phantom for training residents in ultrasound-guided fine needle thyroid nodule targeting punctures. Materials and Methods: Tofu, drinking straws filled with coupling gel, a urine tube, and 21-gauge needles were used to generate a phantom thyroid with nodules for training. Twelve radiology residents were involved in the study. The puncture success rates were recorded and compared before and after phantom training using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: On ultrasonography, tofu mimicked the texture of the thyroid. Drinking straws filled with coupling gel mimicked vessels. The urine tube filled with air mimicked the trachea, and 21-gauge needles mimicked small nodules in the transverse section. The entire phantom was similar to the structure of the thyroid and surrounding tissues. The puncture success rates of radiology residents were significantly increased from 34.4 ± 14.2% to 66.7 ± 19.5% after training (p = 0.003). The phantom was constructed in approximately 10 minutes and materials cost less than CNY 10 (approximately $ 1.5) at a local store. Conclusion: The tofu model was cost-effective, easily attainable, and effective for training residents in ultrasound-guided fine needle thyroid nodule targeting punctures in vitro.

  • Communication skills, such as writing documents and presenting technical details, are thought to be essential for modern engineers. Engineering students usually have less interest in writing and presentation than their humanities student counterparts and their concerns are different, too. So it is necessary to teach them in a different way which is suited to them. However, teaching such subjects has been a tricky problem for educators in terms of teaching methods. Also, to teach writing and presentation effectively for engineering students, collaboration between the faculties of different disciplines is necessary because each discipline has its own specific domain knowledge and approaches. But many unsolved problems exist with regard to how to deal with the technical and administrative aspects, and so on. This paper introduces one case in the education of technical writing and presentation, which is a collaboration between an engineering faculty and a faculty of literature. The literature faculty conducts basic education and training for writing skills, while the engineering faculty teaches the technical aspects of documentation, as well as presentation skills. The focus is placed on topics such as self-introduction, searching technical literature and materials, describing and explaining things and presentation practice, etc. During the class there is cooperation in each topic domain, while the faculties collaborate in teaching and evaluation.
