A Study on the Reliability of Peer-evaluation for Team Members' Contributions and Incorporating Method into Grades - Focusing on the Capstone Design - (팀원 기여도에 대한 동료평가의 신뢰성과 성적 반영 방법에 대한 연구 -종합설계교과목을 중심으로-)

  • The capstone design classes in the College of Engineering are often team project-oriented, and teamwork skills are reported to positively impact problem-solving abilities. While team project courses have various advantages, they also come with challenges such as social loafing and issues related to free riders, which consistently hinder the positive effects of team project courses. To prevent these issues, there is a need to provide a clear evaluation-reward system for team members' contributions. In this study, we examined the reliability of peer evaluation scores for team members' contributions and reviewed methods to incorporate them into team project grades. The review results indicated that peer evaluation scores are deemed to have considerable reliability from a qualitative perspective. However, due to the relatively small team size in team project courses (3 to 6 members per team), using the arithmetic mean of peer evaluation scores is statistically challenging. As a complementary approach, this study proposes limiting the reflection ratio of peer evaluation scores and applying a more macroscopic processing method, not the arithmetic mean, to incorporate peer evaluation scores for team contributions into grades.

  • In this paper, an active magnetic bearing-based motor-generator(M-G) system is designed and controlled by using DSP devices. Several experiments including start-up test, impulse test, whirl test, and generator load test are conducted using digital PID algorithm and AC power of about 58Hz, 100V, 0.8A can be generated from the M-G set.

Low-Complexity Symbol Timing Offset Estimation Schemes for OFDM Systems

  • In this paper, we propose three symbol syn-chronization schemes for Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (OFDM) systems. The cyclic extension preceding OFDM symbols is of decisive importance for these schemes. The first scheme uses the phase-differential coding of the received OFDM signal. The second and the third schemes use the length of the received OFDM signal. All three schemes make symbol synchronization possible, even though there is a frequency off-set in the system. Simulation results show that these schemes can be used to synchronize an OFDM system over AWGN and multi-path fading channels.

  • This paper focuses on the simulation and ciontrol of the Unified Power Flow Controller (UPFC). This paper gives a brief outline of the initial results of the effect of the UPFC on the damping of the power system oscillations. The nonlinear simulation results show the effectiveness of each UPFC control variable and gives the future research direction.

  • In this paper, we develop a transportation planning system for the mail transportation network, which consists of 25 mail centers and one mail exchange center. The main functions of the system are adjustment of transportation plan, creation of new transportation plan, and calculation of expected exchange mail volume which are transported through mail exchange center. We develop an adjusting algorithm which gives a new transportation plan by deleting, adding or changing the current routes. The algorithm based on the transportation results of current transportation plan and mail volume data. We design and implement a planning system by installing the algorithm as the planning engine. For the practical use, the system is connected to the information system of Korea Post, PostNet.

  • This paper deals with the development and feasible study of the train to pedestrian protection airbag. The concept of the airbag system is to protect the pedestrian like as workers on railroad. The airbag system includes cushions, gas generators, a housing, sliding fixture, anti-bouncing airbag, and a leg protection bumper. Those things were designed and fabricated. The performance of the airbag system was evaluated in the sense of the static deployment test, drop test, dynamic motion test and field(train level) test. The deployment logic, TTF(Time to fire), and the inner pressure of the cushion were also investigated for the airbag.

  • The passive filter is economic and efficient in suppressing harmonics but it may cause resonance problems and its performance is constantly dependent on power system impedance or working conditions of loads. This paper presents the DSP (Digital Signal Processor)-based control system, which automatically controls the passive filter in order to solve these problems. The control system can automatically control the passive filter according to working conditions of loads and measured harmonics, reactive power, power factor and so on. Experimental results in the power system using the 100HP DC motor drive are presented in order to verify the performance of the control system.

  • We studied the effect of secondary electron emission from the back plate of AC-PDP, on the ramp waveform driving of the system, using two-dimensional PDP cell discharge simulator. It is found that the secondary electron emission from back plate plays a significant role in getting a stable weak discharge during the ramping up of X-Y electrode voltage. This is because grounded address electrode acts as a cathode during the setup of surface charge, and the secondary electron emission from phosphor in the back plate must be large enough to accumulate surface charges on the dielectric layers without strong plasma discharge. We have concluded that the secondary electron emission coefficient(${\gamma}$) of phosphor, besides MgO, must be known to understand the characteristics of the PDP system. A few suggestions for improvement of the system is also made and tested.
