The Effect of Team Leader's Facilitation Competency on the Team Effectiveness: Mediating Effects of the Shared Leadership (팀 리더의 퍼실리테이션 역량이 팀 효과성에 미치는 영향: 공유리더십의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to verify the mediating effects of shared leadership between team leader's facilitation competency and team effectiveness. To achieve the purpose, this study conducted a survey of 377 members in the team-operated organization. The collected data were analyzed by using SPSS 26.0. The results were as follows; Firstly, communication and creating of participation climate as a subcomponent of team leader's facilitation competency had a significantly positive effect(+) on team effectiveness(team performance, team commitment). Also the task and systematization had a significantly positive influence(+) on team commitment. Secondly, not only communication and creating of participation climate of team leader's facilitation competency but also task and systematization had a significantly positive effect(+) on the shared leadership. Thirdly, the shared leadership had a significantly positive effect(+) on team effectiveness(team performance, team commitment). Lastly, the shared leadership in the relationship between team leaders' facilitation competency and team effectiveness was confirmed to have a partially mediated effect. This study is meaningful in that it theoretically expanded the facilitation research by finding the relationship between team leaders' facilitation competency and other variables as well as suggested practical implications by presenting directions for the roles and competencies of leader and member required by the modern organization.

Validation of Extreme Rainfall Estimation in an Urban Area derived from Satellite Data : A Case Study on the Heavy Rainfall Event in July, 2011 (위성 자료를 이용한 도시지역 극치강우 모니터링: 2011년 7월 집중호우를 중심으로)

  • This study developed a new algorithm of extreme rainfall extraction based on the Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) and the Tropical Rainfall Measurement Mission (TRMM) Satellite image data and evaluated its applicability for the heavy rainfall event in July-2011 in Seoul, South Korea. The power-series-regression-based Z-R relationship was employed for taking into account for empirical relationships between TRMM/PR, TRMM/VIRS, COMS, and Automatic Weather System(AWS) at each elevation. The estimated Z-R relationship ($Z=303R^{0.72}$) agreed well with observation from AWS (correlation coefficient=0.57). The estimated 10-minute rainfall intensities from the COMS satellite using the Z-R relationship generated underestimated rainfall intensities. For a small rainfall event the Z-R relationship tended to overestimated rainfall intensities. However, the overall patterns of estimated rainfall were very comparable with the observed data. The correlation coefficients and the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of 10-minute rainfall series from COMS and AWS gave 0.517, and 3.146, respectively. In addition, the averaged error value of the spatial correlation matrix ranged from -0.530 to -0.228, indicating negative correlation. To reduce the error by extreme rainfall estimation using satellite datasets it is required to take into more extreme factors and improve the algorithm through further study. This study showed the potential utility of multi-geostationary satellite data for building up sub-daily rainfall and establishing the real-time flood alert system in ungauged watersheds.

60 Years of Korean Meteorological Society on Climate Change (기후변화 연구에 관한 한국기상학회 60년사)

  • This paper aims to examine from various perspectives how domestic research studies and projects related to climate change have been conducted to mark the 60th anniversary of the Korean Meteorological Society (KMS). The 『50-year History of the Korean Meteorological Society』, published more than a decade ago, has never dealt with the history of development of individual fields of meteorology such as climate change. Therefore, it is of significance to look at the history of research activities and studies achieved by KMS members in the area of climate change over the past 60 years. The research on climate change in KMS is classified by era from the beginning to the latest and the contents are examined by major research projects at that time. During the past 60 years, climatological research in KMS has been mainly focused on general climate, synoptic climate, and applied climate (urban climate) until the 2000s. However, since the 1990s, climate change has become an important area for climate research. The 2000s are the beginning era of climate change research, since the major projects and researches for climate change has begun in the period. The 2010s can be a time when climate change prediction and monitoring are expanded and refined to meet the rapidly increasing demands for climate information from a wide range of areas. We concluded that the development of the research capabilities of the society over the past 60 years, in particular in the past two decades, in the field of climate change research is remarkable.

The impact of short-term acute heat stress on the rumen microbiome of Hanwoo steers

  • Heat stress negatively affects cattle productivity by reducing feed intake. In the present study, we assessed if the rumen microbiome composition of Hanwoo steers was altered by exposure to heat stress. Rumen samples were collected from four Hanwoo steers that were individually housed in climate-controlled chambers with 60% humidity and environmental temperatures of: 1) 15℃ (0-day group), 2) 35℃ for 3 days (3-day group), and 3) 35℃ for 6 days (6-day group). The total community DNA of samples was extracted, and 997,843 bacterial and 1,508,770 archaeal sequences were analyzed using next-generation sequencing. Assessment of the relative abundances revealed 15 major phyla of which Bacteroidetes was found to be the most dominant. After 3 days of heat stress exposure there were no significant changes in the rumen microbiome composition, except for a decrease in the Planctomycetes. However, after 6 days of heat stress exposure, we found that the relative abundance of fibrolytic Ruminococcaceae had decreased while that of lactate-producing Lactobacillaceae and amylolytic Prevotella and Ruminobacter had increased. The normal rumen microbiome of Hanwoo cattle was shown to be disrupted after 6 days of heat stress, which led to the decrease in fibrolytic bacteria that are sensitive to low pH and the increase in both lactate-producing and amylolytic bacteria. We have demonstrated that the microbiome composition of the rumen is affected by acute heat stress. Our findings may contribute to the development of different feeding strategies to restore heat stress-induced disruption of the rumen microbiome.

Establishing Online Meeting Climate Types and Developing Measurements: Impact on Meeting Satisfaction

  • In the post covid-19 era, organizations will experience a new environment. Advances in technologies such as AI and big data, and new experiences such as online meetings and lectures, will increase the use of online communication. Businesses will increasingly engage in online-based information sharing, virtual team operations, and online meetings. This study focuses on meeting climate and satisfaction, to improve the performance of online meetings. Existing studies on meeting climate presuppose off-line situations. Offline and online communication methods and meeting formats are different. This paper proposes new climate types to develop an appropriate climate for online-based meetings. To apply these climates in online meetings, a measurement scale was developed and the impact on online meeting satisfaction was verified. As a result of the study, it was found that the creativity-oriented meeting climate was the most important, and relation-oriented and participation-oriented meeting climates also had a significant effect, while the direction-oriented and task-oriented climates were relatively less important. This study develops new variables and measurements for online meeting climates, and explains their importance. Companies will be able to leverage the appropriate climates for online meetings to improve performance.

Global technologies for the removal of water scaling & water recovery - Department of Energy (DOE) USA

  • In this paper, we reported the current technologies of water scaling removal and also water recovery from the flue gases, which are funded by Department of Energy (DOE), USA. Globally, water resources are limited due to the climate change. The potential impacts of climate change is food and water shortages. In the $21^{st}$ century, water shortages and pollution are expected to become more acute as populations grow and concentrate in cities. At present, the water stress increases over 62.0 ~ 75.8% of total water basin area and decreases over 19.7 ~ 29.0%. Many renewable energy sources demand secure water resources. Water is critical for successful climate change mitigation, as many efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions depend on reliable access to water resources. Water hardness is one of the major challenge to coal power plants. Department of energy (DOE) funded and encouraged for the development of advanced technologies for the removal of hardness of water (scaling) and also water recovery from the flue gases from coal power plants.

Selection of Biodiversity Indicators for a National Assessment in Korea (국내 생물다양성 평가를 위한 지표 선정)

  • This study was conducted to select indicators for assessing national biodiversity. For this purpose, 140 biodiversity-related indicators were identified as a result of inventorying biodiversity-related indicators used in Korea and abroad, and when these indicators were applied to the pressure, status, and response indicator system, it was found that status indicators accounted for the largest number of indicators, with 29 pressure, 59 status, and 44 response. We also categorized the status indicators into genes, species, habitat, function, and quality, and found that species and habitat indicators accounted for the majority. Pressure indicators were categorized into direct exploitation, pollution, alien species, climate change, and habitat change. As a result, it was found that direct exploitation and pollution accounted for most of the pressure indicators. In addition, this study used internationally used indicator selection criteria to establish criteria for selecting domestic biodiversity assessment indicators. Using this list of indicators and indicator selection criteria, we evaluated the prioritization of domestically applicable biodiversity indicators through relevant expert consultations. 1) Vegetation class, 2) Land cover indicators, and 3) Change of protected area ranked highly. In fact, these indicators have been used in many studies due to the availability of assessable data. However, most of the highly scored indicators are based on ecosystem area, and further consideration of ecosystem functions and components(species) is needed.

A Study on Changes of the Spatio-Temporal Distribution of Temperature in Korea Peninsular During the Past 40 Years (지난 40년간 한반도 기온의 시·공간적 분포 변화에 관한 연구)

  • This study is to construe the spatio-temporal characteristics of temperature in cities and the changes of climatical regions by analyzing a climate change in Korea peninsular. We used daily mean air temperature data which were collected in South and North climate stations for the past 34 years from 1974 to 2007. We created temperature maps of 500m resolution with Inverse Distance Weight in application with adiabatic lapse rate per month in linear relation with height and temperature. In the urbanization area, the data analyzed population in comparison with temperature changes by the year. The south climate region in Korea by the Warmth index was expanded to the middle climate region by the latitude after 1990s. A rise of mean temperature was $0.5{\sim}1.2^{\circ}C$ in urban areas such as Seoul, metropolitan and cities which had a rapid urbanization and industrialization with the population increase between 1980s and 1990s. In case of North Korea, cities such as Pyeongyang, Anju, Gaecheon, and Hesan had the same pattern.

A Study on the Relationship Between Employees' Organizational Citizenship Behavior and Antecedents : Moderating Effect of TPM Manufacturing Innovation (조직시민행동과 선행요인간의 관계에 관한 연구 : TPM 제조혁신의 조절효과를 중심으로)

  • The purpose of this study is to enhance an understanding of employee's OCB(organizational citizenship behavior) in manufacturing innovations like a TPM(total productive maintenance). OCB is examined as a dependent variable in three dimensions; compliance behavior, altruistic behavior, and innovative behavior. The six determinants of OCB are considered based on previous literature : organizational culture, team climate, transactional leadership, transformational leadership, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment. And the moderating effect of TPM on the relationships between OCB and determinants are examined. Data is collected through questionnaires and interviews from 684 employees in the Korean medium-sized manufacturing company that are conducting TPM. The result indicates that the important influencing factors of OCB are team climate, organizational culture, and job satisfaction. And the moderating effect of TPM on the relationships between OCB and job satisfaction is founded.
