The conic sections is an important topic in the current high school geometry. It has been recognized by many researchers that high school students often have difficulty or misconception in the learning of the conic sections because they are taught the conic sections only with algebraic perspective or analytic geometry perspective. In this research, we suggest a way of teaching the conic sections using a dynamic geometry software based on some mathematics teaching and learning theories such as Freudenthal's and Dienes'. Students have various experience of constructing and manipulating the conic sections for themselves and the experience of deriving the equations of the quadratic curves under the teacher's careful guidance. We identified this approach was a feasible way to improve the teaching and learning methods of the conic sections.
Objective: The objective of this study was to explore the perception and its improvement of pre-service teachers regarding teaching professionalism. The subjects of this study were 41 university students who experiencing early childhood teaching practice and 41 their cooperating teachers. Methods: In order to examine perception and its improvement on teaching professionalism, teaching professionalism scale for pre-service early childhood teachers (TPSECT) that was 33 items was administrated. Data were analysed paired t-test and contents analysis. Results: First, early childhood teaching practice experience affected positive effects on the four subordinate areas of teaching professionalism: , , , and improved perception of teaching professionalism. Second, student teachers were developing teaching professionalism, in a course of early childhood teaching practice which consisted of performing teaching real children in the field, evaluating and feedback of cooperating teacher, self-reflection and re-instruction. Conclusion/Implications: For improving pre-service teachers' professionalism, except a teaching practice subject, it is necessary to open various subjects that provide practical experiences, such as, teaching real children, observing actual class. This suggests that more experiential and practical in-service education program will be demanded.
In this study, we analyzed elementary school teachers' self-diagnosis on their competency for assessment in science. A questionnaire was administered to 217 elementary school teachers and in-depth group interviews with 6 teachers were also conducted. The results revealed that the mean scores of five subcategories, 'choosing assessment methods', 'developing assessment instruments', 'administering, scoring, and grading', 'analyzing, interpreting, using, and communicating assessment results', and 'recognizing ethics in assessment', were 3.82, 3.50, 3.92, 3.76, and 4.09 on a scale of 5 points, respectively. Teachers having more teaching experience showed higher mean scores in all subcategories. However, only the teachers having more than 20 years of teaching experience were statistically better than those having less than 5 years of teaching experience in four subcategories except for 'recognizing ethics in assessment'. There were no significant differences in terms of major, whereas the mean scores of the teachers having master's degree were statistically higher than their counterpart in some subcategories. In addition, the teachers who had completed training for assessment exhibited statistically higher mean scores than their counterpart in four subcategories except for 'recognizing ethics in assessment'. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.
The purpose of this study was to explore the impact of scientific inquiry-based peer teaching experience on pre-service elementary teachers' science teaching efficacy, anxiety to science and attitude toward science. The participants of this study included 118 pre-service teachers. The pre-post paired t-test design was implemented to examine the effect of this program. In addition, the semi-structured interviews were carried out for investigating their changes of affective characteristics. The result of this study showed that inquiry-based peer teaching provided pre-service teachers with the opportunities to enhance their science teaching efficacy and attitude toward science and reduce their anxiety to science. The findings imply that it is possible to meaningfully change elementary teachers' affective characteristics when effective strategies are adequately adopted.
Objective: The aim of this study was to achieve a qualitative understanding of childcare teachers' cooperation experiences with Nuri curriculum teaching assistants. Methods: The study adopted a qualitative research design. Participants comprised 23 childcare teachers working with Nuri curriculum teaching assistants. Focus group interviews were conducted to discuss their cooperation experience with the teaching assistants. Qualitative themes analyses were carried out following individual-level analyses, group-level analyses, and cross-group-comparisons. Results and Conclusion: The results showed that childcare teachers, at first, had low expectation for Nuri curriculum teaching assistants because they have ambiguous job descriptions. However, the teachers' actual interactions exhibited cooperation effects on improving the quality of childcare. Childcare teachers suggested the ways to promote cooperation between childcare teachers and Nuri curriculum teaching assistants at individual and systemic levels.
This study was conducted to understand the experiences of engineering college professors teaching classes online due to COVID-19. Instructional strategies were proposed based on these results. This study qualitatively analyzed interviews of four engineering college professors who switched from teaching classes offline to teaching them online in the first semester of 2020. The results showed that the professors had difficulties in creating video content, interacting with students, and conducting online assessments. The results also showed that the professors had difficulties in switching to online teaching. This study was significant in that it produced empirical data about online teaching based on the experiences of engineering college professors teaching classes online.

To understand the structure and dynamics of different forms of learning, whether incidental or conscious, we have to study them as parts or aspects of concrete historical activities with specifiable contexts. This realization is more embodied in apprenticeship learning situations of the student teachers. In this perspective, this paper aims to understand the student teachers' experience on geography teaching as a participant observer in the secondary schools. The 9 student teachers during the teaching internship have written their 38 journals, which was quality analysed to find out key concepts for the purpose of this research. Major conclusions are suggested below as follows. First, the most student teachers were experienced in geography teaching in the secondary schools through the 2-weeks practice teaching. Second, in the positive perspective, student teachers observed on that teachers would teaching well interact with student and experienced teachers would settle down to student's studies. Third, in the negative perspective, student teachers observed on that teachers lecture with only text, and cooperative learning by student presentation in the geography class. Finally, In third person perspective, there is no students' or teachers' productive questions in the whole-class conversation. In addition to that the most mentor teachers lecture do all of the talking in class. In effect these student teachers' experiences, especially 'reality of the geography teaching' and 'practical knowledge of the novice mentor teachers or experienced mentor teachers', either reinforce or modify understanding about the geography teaching practices.
This study is aimed at identifying the possibility and effectiveness of teaching methods education for professors through the development of online teaching content and providing important implications for future online teaching content development and utilization strategies by looking at the differences in the experience and needs of professors who have taken online teaching content. A university surveyed 83 professors who took the seven teaching contents developed between 2015 and 2018, and took them from 2017 to 2019. As a result of the study, professors often took online teaching content for self-development purposes, were satisfied with the overall content, and cited the low psychological burden and resistance of education through personal learning, and the possibility of repeated learning online. The differences between importance and execution in content composition, the areas of statistically significant difference were easy-to-understand delivery, appropriate and sufficient examples, interest and motivation, facilitating interaction between learners, appropriate difficulty, reflection of current trends, appropriate presentation order and ethical composition. The importance level recognized by professors in the area was higher than execution level. In conclusion, opinions for improving online teaching content were appropriate and sufficient examples in the area of content composition, interest and motivation, and reflection of the latest trends. In the area of ease of use, there was stable playback, relay function, and location-independent.
This study developed a model economic education program for young children related to Korean seasonal customs. The model was developed via literature reviews and survey research concerning teachers’' recognition of ‘'early childhood economic education’', consultations with professionals in the field, and testing and modifying the program. The goals of the model program were: teaching children to understand basic economic concepts, helping children to develop an economic attitude that emphasizes interdependence, and acknowledging the importance of eco-friendly economic values. The model includes three educational areas and 21 content areas including understanding the concept of exchange, sharing and cooperation, and circulation with nature. This study also developed 37 early childhood economic education activities using the teaching and learning methods of experiencing nature, virtual experience, real life experience, and traditional games experience.

This case study focused on three science teachers who participated in the Research Experience for Teachers (RET) program conducted by the Center for Bridging Advanced Science and Education (CBASE). The RET program provides opportunities for participants to experience experimentations in a science laboratory for six months, enabling teachers develop teaching materials based on their experience from the RET program. The purpose of this study was to explore how the teachers had developed their professionalism through participation in the program and which factors promoted the professional development of science teachers. In this research, we defined pedagogical content knowledge (PCK) as the required knowledge for teachers to develop for their professional development. As a result of the RET program, all three participants showed integration of PCK elements: orientation to teaching science, knowledge of science, knowledge of students, knowledge of teaching, and knowledge of sources. The PCK elements which had been developed by the RET program were applied in school context and the teachers' belief became clear and strong. The teachers were able to understand the process of authentic science as they learned it from 'legitimate peripheral participation' in the authentic research context. They also showed dynamic integration between newly established elements of PCK by reflecting on the school context while developing the teaching materials. The professional development of each teacher was different depending on the purpose and PCK, which participants had already possess. This study will provide meaningful implication for the development of professional development program for science teachers based on research experience.
