  • This research looked into the recognitions of a teacher's discernment & recommendations of gifted elementary students targeting 184 elementary school teachers in Seoul district and compared and contrasted their awareness in order to confirm whether there existed a difference in the discernment of gifted elementary students according to their awareness level of professionalism in gifted and talented education. The research results are as follows: There appeared a significant difference in teachers' recognitions level of professionalism in gifted education according to their experience relevant to a gifted elementary student. The teachers, in the process of observations & nominations of gifted elementary students, pointed out creativity, learning motive and attitude as the highest judging standard and also regard such elements as discerning criteria of gifted students. In the process of observations & nominations of gifted elementary students, it was found that teachers' recognitions of importance of discerning criteria of gifted elementary students in relation to parents or fellow teachers' recommendations appeared relatively lower than their recognitions of importance in relation to learning ability, creativity, learning motive and attitude. The research results showed that a group of teachers, who have a high recognitions level of the professionalism in gifted education in the process of observations & nominations of gifted students, perceive the realm of creativity, learning motive, and attitude as more important. This suggests the necessity of elevating teachers' awareness level of professionalism in gifted and talented education in order to discern high-quality gifted students in the process observations & nominations of gifted elementary students putting emphasis on the realm of creativity, learning motive, and attitude.

  • This study is to consider the fundamental perceptions of pre-service elementary school teachers to natural environments. The recognition items of questionnaire for those environments include ones of water, atmospheric, soil, biologic and oceanic environments constituting of the earth system. From the results of the study, they affirmatively recognized biologic environment, but they showed highly negative recognitions to others. In other side, it is considered that their recognitions to natural environments were probably transferred by the things which involve press media, curricula and real lives. On the basis of the study results, systematic teaching-learning for natural environments is essential because the encouragement of eco-friendly attitude, one of main goal for environmental education, is budded from basic understandings to natural environments. Affirmatively environmental worldviews for elementary school students are important for reasons why teacher's quality and practice will is fundamental, and then teacher could change the views of the students for environmental education. So, preparing balanced attitudes, right concepts and connection to applicable knowledges for natural environments, pre-service elementary school teachers in environmental education must be pointed to organized education between human and natural environment.

  • In this study, we analyzed teachers' recognitions of the necessity of mathematical descriptive tests and their practices in the elementary schools. We then suggested several examples of improved formats of the mathematical descriptive evaluation. For analyzing teachers' recognitions and practices of mathematical descriptive assessment, we surveyed 104 elementary school teachers in Seoul. We collected the test items from the schools and analyzed them to find how they are practiced in the schools. The results were as follows. First, most elementary school teachers are basically recognizing the direction and the purpose of mathematical descriptive assessment. Second, the ratio of the descriptive test items was very low compared with the teachers' recognition of necessity of including descriptive items in the tests. Third, the teachers usually made the descriptive items with their colleagues using textbooks, test manuals for teachers, and the references that the office of education provided. Fourth, to enhance teachers' understanding of descriptive assessment, systematic training programs for teachers about the descriptive assessment should be continued. Finally, the office of education and research institutes should provide various types of test items and more teacher training programs on descriptive assessments.

  • This study investigated the Present status of laboratories for experiment and practice, and analyzed teachers' recognitions on experiment and practice for Home Economics area of a Technology and Home Economics curriculum according to majors of teachers. Questionnaires were mailed to middle school teachers who taught home economics part and they answered on the web. 220 replies were used for the final analysis. The findings were as follows: First, the facilities and teaching equipments of laboratories for home economics area were inferior, especially, for clothing and textiles part and housing part. Second, teachers recognized necessity to conduct experiment and practice highly. Food life part scored the highest, while housing part scored the lowest. Teachers who majored in home economics recognized more necessities of experiment and practice than teachers who didn't majored in home economics. Third, they recognized level of experiment and practice to be suitable to students, but 'maintenance and repair of housing' section was relatively less suitable than other sections. Fourth, 'making clothes and recycling' section was recognized to have the least suitability in quantities and hours of experiment and practice lesson, because of too much contents and lack of lesson hours. Fifth, teachers recognized that students were more interested in 'the basis of food preparation and practice' section, but they are less interested in 'maintenance and repair of housing' section. Sixth, teachers recognized that contents of experiment and practice were very useful to the real life. 'The basis of food preparation and practice' section was the most useful, while 'maintenance and repair of housing' section was the least useful. Seventh, experiment and practice lessons for food life part were put in practice very well, followed by the order of clothing and textiles part and housing part. Teachers who majored in home economics usually took more experiment and practice lessons than teachers who didn't major in home economics.

  • This research investigated recognitions on outside and inside electrodes in an electric circuit supplied by a galvanic cell, through survey and interview of teachers studying in Departments of Physics Education and Chemistry Education at H University Graduate School. Physics majors' designations on outside or inside parts of electrodes in a galvanic cell were different from Chemistry majors'. Teachers who had majored in physics had difficulties on the inside electrode of a galvanic cell, while teachers who had majored in chemistry had difficulties on the outside electrode. Reasonings for designations of electrodes were attributed to direction of electric current in case of physics teachers and redox in case of chemistry teachers, respectively, which are strongly dependent on backgrounds performed in their undergraduate course.

  • Unlike ordinary situations, deifinitions play a very important role in mathematics education in schools. Mathematical concepts have been mainly acquired by given definitions. However, according to didactical intentions, mathematics education in schools has employed mathematical concepts and definitions with less strict forms than those in pure mathematics. This research mainly discusses definitions used in geometry (promising) course in primary schools to cope with possibilities of creating misconception due to this didactical transformation. After analyzing problems with potential misconceptions, a survey was conducted $\underline{with}$ 80 primary school teachers in Jeju to investigate their recognitions in meaning of mathematical concepts in geometry and attitudes toward teaching. Most of the respondents answered they taught their students while they knew well about mathematical definitions in geometry but the respondents sometimes confused mathematical concepts of polygons and circles. Also, they were aware of problems in current mathematics textbooks which have explained figures in small topics (classes). Here, several suggestions are proposed as follows from analyzing teachers' recognitions and researches in mathematical viewpoints of definitions (promising) in geometric figures which have been adopted by current mathematics textbooks in primary schools from the seventh educational curriculum. First, when primary school students in their detailed operational stage studying figures, they tend to experience $\underline{a}$ collision between concept images acquired from activities to find out promising and concept images formed through promising. Therefore, a teaching method is required to lessen possibility of misconceptions. That is, there should be a communication method between defining conceptual definitions and Images. Second, we need to consider how geometric figures and their elements in primary school textbooks are connected with fundamental terminologies laying the foundation for geometrical definitions and more logical approaches should be adopted. Third, the consistency with studying geometric figures should be considered. Fourth, sorting activities about problems in coined words related to figures and way and time of their introductions should be emphasized. In primary schools mathematics curriculum, geometry has played a crucial role in increasing mathematical ways of thoughts. Hence, being introduced by parts from viewpoints of relational understanding should be emphasized more in textbooks and teachers should teach students after restructuring this. Mathematics teachers should help their students not only learn conceptual definitions of geometric figures in their courses well but also advance to rigid mathematical definitions. Therefore, that's why mathematics teachers should know meanings of concepts clearly and accurately.

  • In this study, we analyzed the values of ionization and ionization constants in the chemistry textbooks developed during 1945-2009 year. The chemistry teachers compared strength of strong acids in aqueous solution by questionnaire. In the questionnaire, we searched chemistry teachers' cognitions about the discordance reason of ionization constant formulation and the values in the textbooks. The subjects were 46 chemistry teachers. As results, the teachers compared the strength of strong acids in aqueous solution based on the ionization and ionization constant values in the textbooks. They didn't notice the problem of discordance of ionization constant formulation and the values in the textbooks. Even though they recognized the problem, they could not find the solution, and thought the problem arrived by experiment error or measurement error.
