  • Children develop in direct relation and response to their physical environment, The purposes of this study were to investigate the current interior design conditions of classrooms in kindergarten and to provide interior planning guidelines for children's behavioral and developmental improvement and better educational environment. Data were collected through interview and questionnaire survey. The sample included 239 teachers who were employed in 23 kindergartens located in Pusan. The data were analyzed by using SPSS-PC. The major findings were as follows; (1) Wood and wallpapers which provide various colors and patterns are recommendable as a classroom finish rather than paint which looks monotonous. (2) Teachers preferred 7 or 8 activity centers in classroom and furniture or partition is the best when dividing space. (3) Classroom should be large enough to locate various types of furniture that designed based on child-size and objects to store. (4) Activity centers should be lit by different types of task lighting such as floor lamp and backer to provide sufficient level of light.

  • A hot forging product in general is produced through buster, blocker and finisher processes. Usually the processes including dies are designed by experienced forging engineers. However, due to the lack of such engineers, it is necessary to develop expert systems with which engineers of little experience can perform the design task. In the present study, an expert system is developed for axisyrnmetric hot steel forgings. It is a rule based system written in Fortran and AutoLISP, operating on a personal computer. In this paper, structures of the system are summarized and capabilities of the system are examined through several examples.

  • Non-territorial workplace has different characteristic from conventional workplace in terms of interior and architectural design and organization management even the user awareness. The purpose of this study is to examine the non-territorial workplace and suggest needs for improving the quality and efficiency of work. To fulfill this task, information describing various environmental conditions and user awareness were gathered from the non-territorial office in Seoul. Data were collected by using questionnaires regarding general information of user and satisfaction of environmental elements that were established on pre-study. Finally, based on the results of this study, the users of non-territorial workplace seem to be satisfied with utilization of space and working but discontent with psychological element such as privacy, security and affinity. Therefore designers should focused more on psychological elements according to users awareness which is the finding in this study among other elements.

  • A satellite RF communication link is analyzed based on a simple fundamental equations by systematic approach in this paper. The number of variables related to a design and analysis of satellite RF link is often a dozen or more, thus it is a tedious and time-consuming task. With the given input data, the important parameters are calculated step by step and three communication characteristics such as communication channel capacity, carrier-to-noise ratio(CNR) at the satellite and ground station are analyzed. It gives very useful information to the system engineers for designing and analyzing the overall satellite communication system in the conceptual design phase.

  • The design of a passive control solution based on tuned mass dampers (TMD's) requires the estimation of the actual masses involved in the undesired vibration. This task may result not so straightforward as expected when the vibration resides in subsets of different structural components. This occurs, for instance, when the goal is to damp out vibrations on stays. The theoretical aspects are first discussed and a design process is formulated. For sake of exemplification, a multiple TMD's configurations is eventually conceived for an existing timber footbridge located in the municipality of Trasaghis (North-Eastern Italy). The bridge span is 83 m and the deck width is 3.82 m.

  • COncurrent Design Approach for Real-Time System(이하 COSATRS) 방법론은 Gomaa가 제안한 실시간 설계 방법론으로서 Real-Time Structured Analysis(이하 RTSA)또는 Concurrent Object-Based Real-Time Analysis(이하 COBRA)방법론을 이용하여 Control and Data Flow Diagram(이하 C&DFD)를 구성하고 이것에 병렬 태스크 구조화 지침, 정보 은닉 모듈 구조화 지침을 적용하여 Task Architecture Diagram (이하 TDA), Information Hiding Module(이하 IHM)을 구성하고 나서 이 둘을 결합하여 Software Architecture Diagram(이하 SAD)를 구성하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 CODARTS 방법론의 적용과정을 테이블을 구성하여 적용함으로써 실시간 S/W 설계 지원 시스템을 설계하였다.

  • Titanium alloys are vital elements for developing advanced structural components, especially in aerospace applications. However, process design for successful forming of titanium alloys is a difficult task, which has to be achieved within a very narrow range of process parameters. In this paper is a finite element based optimal design technique is presented and applied to volume fraction optimization process design in backward extrusion of titanium alloys.

  • Specifying and designing the election algorithm in mobile ad hoc distributed systems is very difficult task. It is because mobile ad hoc systems are more prone to failures than conventional distributed systems. The aim of this paper is to propose a specification and design of the election algorithm in a specific ad hoc mobile computing environment. For this aim, we specify and design an election algorithm in this paper. In addition, we formally verify it and show that it is correct. This solution is based on the nodes detection algorithm that is a classical one for synchronous distributed systems.

  • One of the main uses for ship simulators is in the field of port design, and an increasing number of simulators, of varying degrees of fidelity, are being used for this purpose. An essential feature of all such simulators is their visual scene, which must be of sufficent fidelity to convey the key visual cues adequately. This paper examines the ability of a number of experienced mariners to perceive speeds and distances correctly using Computer Generated Imagery visual scenes of different fidelity, compared with their performance at sea. From the results, it was found that the microcomputer based simulator might be considered, as far as its visual scene representation is concerned, to be as valid as the full mission ship simulator for the port design task.

  • Professional Construction Management (PCM) services have become more and more popular in Taiwan in the past decade. However, disputes between PCM consultant and the client on the performance of PCM services are also increasing. The evaluation of PCM performance is a tough task due to the lack of "physical product", such as the drawings finished by the architect. This paper is intended to propose a PCM performance evaluation system (PPES) based on Balanced Scorecard (BSC). A case study of PCM consultancy for a real world design/build project is conducted to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed BSC framework
