  • Together with the concern about the indoor all quality as sick house syndrome, the Ministry of Environment announced "Indoor Air Quality Control Law for the Multi Purpose Facility," which made the interests to be focused in the urgent understanding of current condition and preparation of measures about the indoor air pollution. In Dec 2005, the law was revised to obligatorily notify the amount of Formaldehyde and Volatile Organic Compounds in the case of newly constructed apartments with more than 100 houses. School also have its own indoor air quality guideline, Indoor air quality in school is very important because, children who very weak to indoor pollutants reside long time in there. The purpose of this paper is to survey indoor air qualify in school by field measurement. Field measurements were performed in 11 schools which were selected from 3 major cities(Incheon, Dae-jeon, chuncheon) in korea, during July, 2004. Totally concentration of Indoor pollutants were determined in 27 classroom. Target air pollutants were TVOC, formaldehyde, dust, CO, CO2 and NO2. For the result of this investigation, Indoor air quality in classroom was very poor and it was found that some pollutants (TVOC, float bacteria) exceed the guideline.

  • The MPEG-2 Test Model 5 (TM5) algorithm is widely used for bit rate control. In TM5, however, the target number of bits and the number of actual coding bits for each picture do not match well. Therefore, buffer overflow and picture quality degradation may occur at the end of the GOP. In this paper, we propose a new bit rate control algorithm for matching the target and the actual coding bits based on accurate bit allocation. The key idea of the proposed algorithm is to determine quantization Parameters which enable us to generate the number of actual coding bits close to the target number of bits for each picture, while maintaining uniform picture quality and supporting real-time processing. The proposed algorithm exploits the relationship between the number of actual coding bits and the number of estimated bits of the previous macroblock.

  • In the application of the ecosystem-based fisheries assessment Jeonnam marine ranching ecosystem, two fisheries, funnel fishery and trap fishery, were selected as target fisheries. Black seabream, Acanthopagru schlegelii, rock bream, Sebastes inermis, gray mullet, Mugil cephalus, were selected as target species for the funnel fishery, and conger eel, Conger myriaster, was target species for the trap fishery. For assessing indicators of four management objectives, that is the maintenance of sustainability, biodiversity, habitat quality and socio-economic benefits, indicators were selected considering the availability of data, which were 5 indicators for sustainability, 3 indicators for biodiversity, 4 indicators for habitat, 2 indicators for socio-economic benefit. The Objective risk indices for sustainability and biodiversity of two fisheries were estimated at yellow zone, medium risk level. The objective risk indices for habitat and socio-economic benefit were estimated at green zone, safe level. The species risk indices (SRI) were estimated at yellow zone. The fishery risk indices (FRIs) were estimated at 1.143 and 1.400 for funnel net fishery and trap fishery, respectively. Finally the ecosystem risk index estimated at 1.184.

  • The advent of kV cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) integrated with a linear accelerator allows for more accurate Image-guided radiotherapy (IGRT). IGRT is the technique that corrects target displacement based on internal body information. To do this, the CBCT Image set is acquired just before the beam is delivered and registered with the simulation CT Image set. In this study, we compare the registration results according to the CBCT's reconstruction quality (either high or medium). A total of 56 CBCT projection data from 6 patients were analyzed. The translation vector differences were within 1 mm in all but 3 cases. For rotation displacement difference, components of all three axes were considered and 3 out of 168 ($56{\times}3$ axes) cases showed more than lo of rotation differences.

  • The decrease of visual quality at scene change occurs when the difference between the amount of target bits and actual coding is high. Especially, scene change at the P-Picture can lead to severely degrade visual qualities at itself and the pictures referencing it. In this paper, under the occurrence of scene change, we propose a new method, based on the analysis of existing inaccurate bits allocation, to improve the visual qualities of scene-changed and following pictures. The method allocates extra bits to scene-changed Picture and changes them upto the level of the complexity of intra picture. Also, the method changes target bits of following pictures upto the complexity of picture prior to the scene change. Computer simulation shows that the proposed method has improved 0.5-1.2dB higher than TM5 method in terms of PSNR.

  • Background : This study presented an analysis of healthcare quality indicators using data mining and a development of decision support system for quality improvement. Method : Specifically, important factors influencing the key quality indicators were identified using a decision tree method for data mining based on 8,405 patients who discharged from a medical center during the period between December 1, 2000 and January 31, 2001. In addition, a decision support system was developed to analyze and monitor trends of these quality indicators using a Visual Basic 6.0. Guidelines and tutorial for quality improvement activities were also included in the system. Result : Among 12 selected quality indicators, decision tree analysis was performed for 3 indicators ; unscheduled readmission due to the same or related condition, unscheduled return to intensive care unit, and inpatient mortality which have a volume bigger than 100 cases during the period. The optimum range of target group in healthcare quality indicators were identified from the gain chart. Important influencing factors for these 3 indicators were: diagnosis, attribute of the disease, and age of the patient in unscheduled returns to ICU group ; and length of stay, diagnosis, and belonging department in inpatient mortality group. Conclusion : We developed a decision support system through analysis of healthcare quality indicators and data mining technique which can be effectively implemented for utilization review and quality management in a healthcare organization. In the future, further number of quality indicators should be developed to effectively support a hospital-wide Continuous Quality Improvement activity. Through these endevours, a decision support system can be developed and the newly developed decision support system should be well integrated with the hospital Order Communication System to support concurrent review, utilization review, quality and risk management.

  • The manufacturer of a linear accelerator (LINAC) has reported that the target melting phenomenon could be caused by a non-recommended output setting and the excessive use of monitor unit (MU) with intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Due to these reasons, we observed an unexpected beam interruption during the treatment of a patient in our institution. The target status was inspected and a replacement of the target was determined. After the target replacement, the beam profile was adjusted to the machine commissioning beam data, and the absolute doses-to-water for 6 MV and 10 MV photon beams were calibrated according to American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) Task Group (TG)-51 protocol. To verify the beam data after target replacement, the beam flatness, symmetry, output factor, and percent depth dose (PDD) were measured and compared with the commissioning data. The difference between the referenced and measured data for flatness and symmetry exhibited a coincidence within 0.3% for both 6 MV and 10 MV, and the difference of the PDD at 10 cm depth ($PDD_{10}$) was also within 0.3% for both photon energies. Also, patient-specific quality assurances (QAs) were performed with gamma analysis using a 2-D diode and ion chamber array detector for eight patients. The average gamma passing rates for all patients for the relative dose distribution was $99.1%{\pm}1.0%$, and those for absolute dose distribution was $97.2%{\pm}2.7%$, which means the gamma analysis results were all clinically acceptable. In this study, we recommend that the beam characteristics, such as beam profile, depth dose, and output factors, should be examined. Further, patient-specific QAs should be performed to verify the changes in the overall beam delivery system when a target replacement is inevitable; although it is more important to check the beam output in a daily routine.

  • It is important that the precise decision of the region and the accurate delivery of radiation dose required for treatment in the stereotactic radiosurgery. In this research, radiosurgery was carried with Leksell streotactic frame(LSF) which is especially developed water phantom to verify in experiment. Leksell Gamma Knife and LSF are used in radiosurgery is the spherical water phantom has the thickness of 2 mm, the radius of 160mm. The film for target localization and ionchamber for dose delivery was used in measurement instruments We compare the coordinate of target which is initialized by biplannar film with simple X-ray to the coordinate of film measured directly. The calculated dose by computer simulation and the measured dose by ionization chamber are compared. In this research, the target localization has the range ${\pm}$0.3mm for the acceptable error range and the absolute dose is :${\pm}$0.3mm for the acceptable error range. This research shows that the values measured by using the especially manufactured phantom are included the acceptable error range. Thus, this water phantom will be used continuously in the periodic quality assurance of Gamma Knife Unit and Leksell Stereotactic Frame.
