  • Location-based services provide customized information or services according to the user's location. The existing localization schemes for outdoor environment are not applicable to the indoor localization system which requires higher accuracy of location estimation than that of the outdoor localization system. In this paper, we employ the received signal strength(RSS) to approximate the distance between a moving target and a reference point and use the triangulation method to estimate the location of the moving target for the indoor localization system in IEEE 802.15.4 wireless PAN(personal area network). For the indoor localization system, we propose a scheme which selects the best reference points to enhance the localization accuracy and adaptively reflects the changes in propagation environments of a moving target to the distance approximation. Through the implementation of the localization system, we have verified the performance of the proposed scheme in terms of the estimation accuracy.

  • This paper is concerned with tasking and guidance of networked airborne sensors to achieve fault-tolerant sensing. The sensors are coordinated to locate hostile transmitters by intercepting and processing their signals. Faults occur when some sensor-carrying vehicles engaged in target location missions are lost. Faults effectively change the network architecture and therefore degrade the network performance. The first objective of the paper is to optimally allocate a finite number of sensors to targets to maximize the network life and availability. To that end allocation policies are solved from relevant Markov decision problems. The sensors allocated to a target must continue to adjust their trajectories until the estimate of the target location reaches a prescribed accuracy. The second objective of the paper is to establish a criterion for vehicle guidance for which fault-tolerant sensing is achieved by incorporating the knowledge of vehicle loss probability, and by allowing network reconfiguration in the event of loss of vehicles. Superior sensing performance in terms of location accuracy is demonstrated under the established criterion.

  • The most satisfactory split-beam transducer for fish sizing maintains a wide bearing angle region for correct fish tracking without interference from side lobes and lower sensitivity to fish echoes outside of the main lobe region to correctly measure the angular location of free-swimming fishes in the sound beam. To evaluate the performance of an experimentally developed 50 kHz split-beam transducer, the angular location of a target was derived from the electrical phase difference between the resultant signals for the pair of transducer quadrants in the horizontal and vertical planes consisting of 32 transducer elements. The electrical phase difference was calculated by cross-spectral density analysis for the signals from the pair of receiving transducer quadrants, and the directivity correction factor for a developed split-beam transducer was estimated as the fourth-order polynomial of the off-axis beam angle for the angular location of the target. The experimental results demonstrate that the distance between the acoustic centers for the pair of receiving transducer quadrants can be controlled to less than one wavelength by optimization with amplitude-weighting transformers, and a smaller center spacing provides a range of greater angular location for tracking of a fish target. In particular, a side lobe level of -25.2 dB and an intercenter spacing of $0.96\lambda$($\lambda$= wavelength) obtained in this study suggest that the angular location of fish targets distributing within a range of approximately ${\pm}28^{\circ}$ without interference from side lobes can be measured.

  • In this paper, a new stereo object extraction algorithm using a block-based MSE (mean square error) algorithm and the configuration parameters of a stereo camera is proposed. That is, by applying the SSD algorithm between the initial reference image and the next stereo input image, location coordinates of a target object in the right and left images are acquired and then with these values, the pan/tilt system is controlled. And using the moving angle of this pan/tilt system and the configulation parameters of the stereo camera system, the mask window size of a target object is adaptively determined. The newly segmented target image is used as a reference image in the next stage and it is automatically updated in the course of target tracking basing on the same procedure. Meanwhile, a target object is under tracking through continuously controlling the convergence and FOV by using the sequentiall extracted location coordinates of a moving target.

  • Intelligent devices using ICT technology have been introduced in the field of construction machinery to improve productivity and stability. Among the intelligent devices, Machine Guidance is a device that provides real-time posture, location, and work range to drivers by installing various sensors, controllers, and satellite navigation systems on construction machines. Conversely, the efficiency of equipment that requires location information, such as machine guidance, will be greatly reduced in buildings, and tunnels in the GPS blind spots. Thus, the other high-precision positioning technologies are required in the GPS blind spot zone. In this study, we will develop a relative position measurement system that provides precise location information such as construction machinery and robots in a local area where the GPS reception is difficult. A relative position measurement system tracks a marker in the form of a sphere installed on a vehicle by using the image base tracking technology, and measures the distance and direction information to the marker to calculate a position.

  • Various techniques have been proposed for detection and tracking of targets in order to develop a real-world computer vision system, e.g., visual surveillance systems, intelligent transport systems (ITSs), and so forth. Especially, the idea of distributed vision system is required to realize these techniques in a wide-spread area. In this paper, we develop a ubiquitous vision system for location-awareness of multiple targets. Here, each vision sensor that the system is composed of can perform exact segmentation for a target by color and motion information, and visual tracking for multiple targets in real-time. We construct the ubiquitous vision system as the multiagent system by regarding each vision sensor as the agent (the vision agent). Therefore, we solve matching problem for the identity of a target as handover by protocol-based approach. We propose the identified contract net (ICN) protocol for the approach. The ICN protocol not only is independent of the number of vision agents but also doesn't need calibration between vision agents. Therefore, the ICN protocol raises speed, scalability, and modularity of the system. We adapt the ICN protocol in our ubiquitous vision system that we construct in order to make an experiment. Our ubiquitous vision system shows us reliable results and the ICN protocol is successfully operated through several experiments.

  • Nearest neighbor query retrieves nearest located target objects, and is very frequently used in mobile environment. In this paper we propose a novel neatest neighbor query processing technique that is able to retrieve nearest located target object from the user who is continuously moving with a direction. The proposed method retrieves objects using the direction property of moving object as well as euclidean distance to target object. The proposed method is applicable to traffic information system, travel information system, and location-based recommendation system which require retrieving nearest located object.

  • Objectives : Teaching the standardized acupuncture point locations and improving the accuracy of acupoint locations through objective evaluation is a very important part of Korean medicine education. The aim of this study is to develop a dummy system for evaluation and support of teaching acupoint location in meridian and acupoints classes and to introduce the developed system. Methods : We established a protocol for the development of the system. The protocol included definition of usage purpose, definition of its essential performance, and set of scope. The system compares the amount of light at the target acupoint with the amount of light at the other sites to determine whether the target acupoint is properly specificated. Results : A prototype of the system was built according to the protocol and consists of light emitter, dummy, control/operation, input part and output part. The light emitter projects laser beam passing through the skin of the dummy. Light sensors were attached inside the acupoints of the dummy. Three types of light sensors were selected depending on the location of the acupoints. The arithmetic, input, and output parts were constructed using Arduino and Raspberry pi boards. The developed system was applied in class. Conclusions : It is thought that the dummy system for evaluation and support of teaching acupoint location can be used as a training model in order to help teach standardized acupoint locations and objective evaluation.

  • In this paper, the ESS(Energy Storage System) is interconnected in order to reduce the maximum load in the distribution system and the target location of the ESS is set to be close to the rated voltage. We also applied the weights to nodes with large capacity and number of customers in the system. In the future, the interconnected location of the ESS was determined until 2029 in consideration of the load increase rated of the system. We propose a cooperative decision algorithm of interconnected location of ESS for Power Distribution System.

  • In this paper, a position recognition system is designed, implemented, and tested using IEEE 802.15.4a PHY (CSS) hardware and Tiny OS environment. The system is designed with extensibility and flexibility. The system consists of five kinds of nodes which have different functions from each other. Three communication channels are used for collision avoidance. In each cell, an arbiter node is used to minimize message collisions. The proposed arbitration protocol is designed to support mobility of arbitrary target nodes. Target nodes calculates their locations with communications to four location reference nodes which are placed on the comers of each cell.
