In this paper, a decoupler of tandem cold rolling mill is designed. Before designing the decoupler, this paper improved conventional linear model by considering friction and yield stress of rolling strip. In a stand, the decoupler let an output be controlled by an input. And even if states of other stands should be changed, current stand takes no interference from those changes. In addition, with the same method, a feedforward controller is designed for an input strip thickness error. Finally, performance of controllers above is shown with nonlinear simulation.

A digital preview controller is designed for tandem cold mills to achieve a better improvement of the thickness accuracy. And simultaneously a blocked noniteracting controller is synthesized for rejecting the interactive effects among adjacent stands and for controlling independently each roll stand of landem cold mills. The performance effects and characteristics of the suggested roll control system are discussed in the practical view points. The simulation results show that the thickness accuracy of tandem cold mills can be largely improved by the blocked noninteracting and digital preview contoller.

A series of biologically active phosphopeptides were synthesized and their behavior in tandem mass spectrometry have been investigated. The structure identifications of other unusual peptides such as sulphated, glycosylated, lipoidal, and backbone modified peptides have been carried out. For all tested peptides, the structural modification could be determined directly by measurement of the absolute molecular weight in combination with collision-induced-dissociation in tandem mass spectrometry.

We have demonstrated several effective intermediate connectors in tandem organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) using doped or nondoped organic p-n heterojunction. The influence of n-type or p-type organic layer in intermediate connectors on device performance has been investigated based on the understanding of interfacial electronic structures.

In spite of many reports in the literature concerning with oxidation of benzylic alcohols to carbonyl compounds with 2,3-dichloro-5,6-dicyanobenzoquinone (DDQ) in stoichiometric amounts or even more, we surprisingly found that benzylic alcohols are directly oxidized to oximes using a catalytic amount of DDQ in the presence of hydroxylamine hydrochloride under solvent-free conditions. The present tandem catalytic method can be efficiently used for preparation of oximes in the presence of some other functional groups with excellent chemoselectivity.

A tandem queue that consists of nodes with buffers of finite capacity and general blocking scheme is considered. The service time distribution of each node is exponential whose rate depends on the state of the node. The blocking scheme at a node may be different from that of other nodes. An approximation method for the system based on decomposition method is presented. The effectiveness of the method is investigated numerically.

Novel tandemless transcoding method for AMR and EVRC speech coders is proposed in this paper. In contrast to conventional tandem method, the parameters which is used commonly in speech coder where CELP algorithm is adapted are directly transcoded. The proposed algorithm is composed of LSP transcoding, pitch delay transcoding, gains transcoding and fixed codebook vector transcoding Evaluation results show that the novel algorithm achieves better speech quality than tandem method and reduce computational complexity and delay.

In human chromosome, a short sequence of DNA has been repeated a number of times. These repeats are called variable number of tandem repeat(VNTR) or short tandem repeat(STR) which has short repeat core. VNTR and STR are used in the field of forensic science, evolution, and anthropology. In this work, we examined allele frequencies of 3 VNTR(YNZ22, NeuR, D21S11) and one STR(Humth01) in a Korean population sample by polymerase chain reaction(PCR) followed by high-resolution polyacrylamide gelelectrophoresis(PAGE) with silver staining. Subsequently, the polymorphism information content(PIC) was calculated : the highest PIC was observed for the NeuR locus(0.95680) and lowest for the Humth01 locus(0.75809).

In shipyard production processes, lots of steel plates are assembled by welding. Some rectangular steel plates are buttwelded to build a large block in panel production lines. There are some advantages to take the tandem arc welding in butt joints of rectangular plates with respect to welding speed. Hence, the thermal stresses and the temperature distribution of the tandem arc welding are studied in this paper. The solutions in the case of the infinite plate with two instantaneous point heat sources have been obtained. And then the solutions have been extended to the case of two moving heat sources corresponding to the tandem arc welding with the aid of Duhamel's superposition integral. It was found that the temperature distribution was good agreement with the results of the experiments by Rosenthal and Park and the thermal stresses calculated were acceptable with respect to a physical phenomenon. These solutions are able to be applied to the problem such as a line heating.

To investigate if there are tandem repeats in iNOS gene in Korean genome we applied PCR amplification followed by DNA sequencing. Tandem repeats we were looking at were (AAAT)n in the promoter region. Totally, 65 people were subjected for this experiment. Twenty of them were patients with metabolic disease. Only $(AAAT)_4$ was found in all of these Korean samples. This result was somewhat different trom the data for Caucasians and other Asian people. So, we assume this is specific VNTR (variable number of tandem repeat) in Korean which can be used for the purpose of diagnosis and for the differentiation of ethnic groups.
