The dietary effects of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) on lipid concentrations and fatty acid composition of various tissues were studied in young chicks. Chicks were fed one of four diets containing 6% tallow (TO), 4% TO-2% CLA, 2% TO-4% CLA or 6% CLA for 3wks. There were no differences in growth performances, but relative liver weight in chicks fed dietary CLA up to 4% was significantly higher than that of 6% TO group. The concentrations of various lipid fractions in serum were not affected by CLA feeding. With the increase in dietary CLA levels, total CLA in liver and leg muscle increased linearly.
The Lubricational characteristics of O/W Emulsions of beef tallow and mineral oil based lubricants are studied in a roller on disk apparatus. It is revealed that the coefficients of friction with both emulsion lubricants exhibit essentially similar behavior; that is, they rapidly decrease to 0.1% concentration and after they constants with increasing oil concentration, and that, with oil in water emulsions of a concentrations as low as 5wt% practically forms a elastohydrodynamic film. One hand, surface temperature effect on lubricants has virtually no severe, and that, the minimum EHL film chickness estimated that it begins to increase at a concentration of several percent; the effect of particle diameter becomes maked there after.
A highly flexible polyimide (PI) was synthesized successfully from ethylene glycol bis(anhydrotrimellitate) (TMEG) and 1,3-bis(4-aminophenoxy)benzene (TPER) for its application in electronics. To enhance the thermal stability and mechanical properties of this novel PI, we prepared PI nanocomposite films using nanoparticles of clays that had been treated with organic intercalating agents (organoclays). We used two types of organoclays: montmo-rillonite (MMT) treated with hexadecylamine (C$\_$16/) and MMT treated with dimethyl dihydrogenated tallow quaternary ammonium (l5A). PI/organoclay hybrid films were obtained by first preparing poly(amic acid) (PAA)/organoclay films and then converting the PAA to polyimide by thermal conversion. PAA was characterized by FT-IR and $^1$H-NMR spectroscopy and the conversion of PAA to PI was confirmed by FT-IR spectroscopy. We analyzed the dispersion of the organoclays in the PI film by X-ray diffraction. The thermal stability and mechanical properties of the hybrid films were also investigated.

Lubricating softner(SOS-2) for permanent press(PP) finish was prepared by blending water, beef tallow hardened oil for improving softness, and the emulsion which was synthesized from N-hexadecanoyl-N,N'-bis(2-hexadecamidoethyl)amine as a softening component and silicone oil KF-96 as a lubricating component. The prepared SOS-2 and the PP finishing resin were applied to PP finishing cotton broad cloth and P/C gingham samples using one bath method. The properties such as tear strength, crease recovery, bending resistance test were tested. The samples treated with SOS-2 and PP finishing resin have improved properties, compared with nontreated samples, those treated only with PP finishing resin, those treated with commercial PP finishing softners and PP finishing resin.

To prepare a O/W type nonionic durable softner(ANSA), synthesized 1, 3-dihexadanoyl-2, 7-dioxy-6, 8-di(2-hexadecanoyloxyethyl)-1, 3, 6, 8-tetraazacyclodecane as the main component of softner, was blended with beef tallow, anhydrous lanolin, polyoxyethylene(20) oleyl ether, sorbitan sesquioleate, and polyoxyethylene(7) stearyl ether in various compositions. Emulsion stability of ANSA was good, and the mixed HLB value was 9.8. After the treatment of ANSA to all cotton fabrics, the physical properties such as tear strength, crease recovery, and flexing abrasion resistance were measured, respectively. As a result of the measurement, ANSA was proved to be durable softner with good softness.
All diets were based on feeds of fattening period pigs(LY x D, ca. 90 kg) with six treatments, which were the control, containing 5% beef tallow(C), 3% beef tallows and 2% perilla seeds oil(T1), 250 ppm vit. E(${\alpha}$-tocopheryl acetate) in T1(T2), 3% beef tallow and 2% squid viscera oil(T3), 250 ppm vit. E in T3(T4), and 3% beef tallow and 2% CLA(T5), respectively. Produced porks and their carcass characteristics were as follows. The daily gain of pigs was higher in T2 and 73 than any other treatments(p<0.05). Its T2 and T3 was 3.71 and 3.80 respectively, however, there was no significance in feed intake. The highest back fat thickness was shown in control group on market weight, while there was no significant difference on their initial weight. Loin-eye muscle area did not show any significant difference on initial weight and on market weight, however, its T5 was about twice as large as T2's. Content of triglyceride in blood was high in control group as compared to others; especially, the values for T3, T4 and T5 were significantly low(p <0.05). There was no significant difference in total cholesterol contents, and the ratio of HDL cholesterol/total cholesterol was higher in vit. E treated samples than untreated sample. Atherogenic index was high in sample with T3 and low in sample with T2. The perilla seed oil, squid fish oil, and vit. E decreased atherogenic index. Dressing percentage, back fat thickness, and grade did not show any significant difference(p >0.05); however, T2, C and T3, T1 and T5 showed 4.67, 4.29, 4.00 respectively, in grades.

This study investigated the effects of feeding the broilers that are exposed to extreme heat stress (EHS, $33{\pm}2^{\circ}C$) with extreme heat stress diet (EHSD) containing adequate amount of soy oil and other nutrients on their growth performance. 500 broiler chickens (Ross 308) were randomized into five dietary treatment groups according to a randomized block design on the day they were hatched. Each group was further divided into four repeat pens with each repeat pen comprising 25 chickens. The five dietary treatment groups were: T1 (Normal ambient condition + basal diet (BD), T2 (EHS +BCD), T3 (EHS + extreme heat stress diet (EHSD) prepared from BD with tallow replaced with soy oil and containing molasses 2%), T4 (EHS + EHSD prepared from BD with tallow replaced with soy oil and containing molasses 2% and methionine and lysine of 1.5 times greater quantities than in BD), and T5 (EHS + EHSD prepared from BD with tallow replaced with soy oil and containing molasses 2%, methionine and lysine of 1.5 times greater quantities than in BD, and vitamin C 200 ppm) with inverse lighting. The body weight gain of the broilers increased significantly in T4 and T5 as compared with that in T1 and T2. Weights of the lymphoid organ, bursa of Fabricius, thymus, and spleen were similar between all groups. Serum concentrations of IgG, IgG and IgM were higher in T4 and T5 than inT1 and T2, but the corticosterone concentration decreased significantly in them. In T4 and T5, Lactobacillus in the cecum increased, but Escherichia, coliform, and total aerobic bacteria decreased rather significantly, compared with those in T1 and T2. Contents of acetic acid, propionic acid and total SCFA were significantly higher in T4 and T5 than in T1 and T2.

In this study, the effect of extreme heat diet on growth performance, lymphoid organ, blood immunoglobulin and cecum microflora change in broilers exposed to continuous lighting and extreme heat stress (EHS) was studied. Broilers raised under normal environment temperature ($25^{\circ}C$ or extreme heat stress temperature ($33{\pm}2^{\circ}C$, and consumed chow diet (CD) or extreme heat stress diet (EHSD). Five hundred Ross 308 day-old commercial broilers were arranged in a completely randomized block design of 5 treatment groups with 4 repetitions (25 heads per repetition pen). The broilers were divided into: T1 (normal environment+CD), T2 (EHS+CD), T3 (EHS+EHSD in which the tallow in CD was substituted by soy oil and contained 5% molasses), T4 (EHS+EHSD in which the tallow in CD was substituted by soy oil and contained 5% molasses, and 1.5 times more methionine and lysine than CD), and T5 (EHS+EHSD in which the tallow in CD was substituted by soy oil, contained 5% molasses, 1.5 times more methionine and lysine than CD, and 300ppm of vitamin C). The EHS significantly reduced the body weight gain and feed intake. The blood immunoglobulin, bursa of Fabricius, thymus, and spleen weight were significantly reduced when broilers were exposed to EHS. Compared to the normal environment temperature group, the cecum Lactobacillus sp. was low in the EHS treatment group, while Escherichia sp., Salmonella sp. and total aerobic bacteria in the EHS treatment group were high. A statistically significant difference was acknowledged between the treatment groups.
Two experiments were conducted to compare the dietary supplemental influence of conjugated linoleic acid(CLA), soybean oil(SBO) and commercial tallow(CT) on MEn, performance and breast meat composition of broiler chicks. Diets contained 21.5, 19% CP and 3,100, 3,100kcal/kg ME for starter and finisher, respectively. Each three levels(1.0, 2.0, 3.0%) of CLA, SBO, CT were supplemented to basal diets. Five hundred fDrty and three hundred sixty one day old, male broiler chicks were replaced to 3$\times$3, 2$\times$3 factorial design with four replicates in Expt 1 and 2. Weight gain, fled intake, fled conversion, W antibody titer and fatty acid composition were measured. Metabolizable energy(ME) were measured through the metabolic feeding trial in each oil. ME was 8,542, 9,179, 8,733 kcal/kg in CLA, SBO and CT, respectively. In Expt 1, weight gain was not statistically different between dietary oil treatments. Feed intake was significantly increased by CLA supplement(P<0.05). Feed conversion was significantly improved in SBO supplemental groups of all treatments(P<0.05). Weight gain and feed intake were significantly increased and fled conversion was significantly improved in CLA 2% and 3% supplemental groups compared with CLA 1% group(P<0.05). Fatty acid composition of breast meat was changed by CLA supplement. CLA content of breast meat was 12.23, 18.74, 25.67 mg/g in 1, 2, and 3% CLA treatments and showed significant difference between them(P<0.05). In Expt 2, CLA supplements increased weight gain signi(icantly for (inishing period(P<0.05) compared to that of other treatments. There was no significant difference in M Antibody titer in Expt 1 and Expt 2. As the results of these experiments, birds fed CLA tended to gain higher weight and significantly increased CLA contents of breast meat(P<0.05).
Deep fried instant noodles, biscuits, and cookies were prepared, using the same beef tallow as their fat ingredient. In addition to wheat flour and beef tallow, the common and major ingredients, the deep fried instant noodle contained 1.5% salt before frying, the biscuits 20.0% sucrose and 10.0% nonfat milk solid before baking, and the cookies 20.0% sucrose before baking. The three products and a portion of beef tallow, which was to be used as control, were stored in an incubator at $47.0{\pm}1.5^{\circ}C$. The peroxide value and the free fatty acid value of the control and the extracted fat were determined regularly during the storage period. The fat incorporated in the biscuits exhibited far greater stability to rancidity development than that of the control with regard to both peroxide value and free fatty acid value development. However, the fat incorporated in the deep fried instant noodles and the cookies showed much poorer stability than that of the control. Factors like a deep frying process and/or the presence of a significant amount of salt in the deep fried instant noodles appeared to promote the rancidity development of the fat incorporated in the product. On the other hand, Maillard type browning reaction products in the biscuits seemed to retard effectively the rancidity development of the fat incorporated in the product.
