This paper proposes a modified tag collection algorithm that improves the drawback of the identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm presented in a previous paper to improve the tag collection performance in active RFID systems. The previous identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm is optimized in situations where all the tags store the fixed size of data, so it could not result in a good performance improvement with tags having the variable size of data. The improved tag collection algorithm proposed in this paper first collects the slot size information required for the data transmission from each tag via the identified slot scan phase, and then performs the tag collection phase using the information, which resolves the problem of the previous identified slot scan-based tag collection algorithm. The simulation results for performance evaluation showed that the proposed tag collection algorithm resulted in the almost same tag collection performance as the previous algorithm when all the tags have the same size of data and led a large improvement of the tag collection performance in ISO/IEC 18000-7 unlike the previous algorithm when each tag has a random size of data.

The conventional sensor tag data filtering algorithm uses time window based data filtering for each tag data. However, this approach shows many performance problems such as low error and event detection rate and larger storage size requirement. In this paper, we propose a collaborative sensor tag data filtering algorithm to improve sensor data processing performance. simulation study shows that the proposed sensor tag filtering algorithm outperforms the conventional filtering algorithm in terms of the processing time, the size of required data storage memory and accuracy of error and event detection rate.
Tagging system is the system that allows internet users to assign new meta-data which is called tag to article, photo, video and etc. for facilitating searching and browsing of web contents. Tag cloud, a visual interface is widely used for browsing tag space. Tag cloud selects the tags with the highest frequency and presents them alphabetically with font size reflecting their popularity. However the conventional tag selection method includes known weaknesses. So, we propose a novel tag selection method Freshness, which helps to find fresh web contents. Freshness is the mean value of Kullback-Leibler divergences between each consecutive change of tag co-occurrence probability distribution. We collected tag data from three web sites, Allblog, Eolin and Technorati and constructed the system, 'Fresh Tag Cloud' which collects tag data and creates our tag cloud. Comparing the experimental results between Fresh Tag Cloud and the conventional one with data from Allblog, our one shows 87.5% less overlapping average, which means Fresh Tag Cloud outperforms the conventional tag cloud.

A UHF band RFID passive tag antenna, which can be attached on metallic objects, is proposed. The proposed tag antenna is more insensitive to the size of the metallic object than conventional PIFAs or IFAs. It is constructed on a multi-layer and its size is reduced by using a 'L' slit. Performances of the antenna is analyzed by Ansoft's HFSS and measured using a back-scattering method. The simulated and measured data are obtained with varying the size of metallic object.

This paper investigates the issue of efficient reading for sensor data of semi-passive sensor tag. The Cold Chain management system requires complete sensor data without data loss and the short processing time of reading sensor tag data. However, reading the sensed data could be interfered by RF environment such as a jamming, obstacle and so on. This study found that it could lead to loss of the sensed data and takes much time to read it when data loss is occurred. To solve this problem, we propose the transaction processing mechanism that guarantees efficient reading of the sensed data. To do this, we present the technique of dynamic packet size and technique of data recovery to execute read transaction. These techniques improve the reliability of reading operation as well as speed up of read process for the large capacity data. This paper contributes to the improvement of efficient reading of sensed data without any loss of data and large time required.

In this paper, we propose a novel method for improving the tag collection performance in active RFID systems by modifying the tag collection algorithm in the ISO/IEC 18000-7 standard. The proposed method enables to reduce the time slot size by reducing the response message size from the tag and to decrease the number of command messages from the reader throughout the tag collection process. This results in reducing the time required for tag collection and the battery consumption on tags by decreasing the total amount of messages. Via the simulation experiments, we evaluated the performance of the tag collection applied with the proposed method, compared with that of the basic tag collection complying with the standard. The simulation results showed that the proposed method could decrease the total amount of messages between the reader and tags dramatically and reduce the average tag collection time by 19.99% and 16.03% when the reader requested the additional data of 50 bytes and 100 bytes from the tags, respectively.
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a common term for technologies using micro chips that are able to communicate over short-range radio and that can be used for identifying physical objects. RFID technology already has several application areas and more are being envisioned all the time. While it has the potential of becoming a really ubiquitous part of the information society over time, there are many security and privacy concerns related to RFID that need to be solved. This paper proposes a method which could protect private information and ensure RFID's identification effectively storing face feature information on RFID tag. This method improved linear discriminant analysis has reduced the dimension of feature information which has large size of data. Therefore, face feature information can be stored in small memory field of RFID tag. The proposed algorithm in comparison with other previous methods shows better stability and elevated detection rate and also can be applied to the entrance control management system, digital identification card and others.

Reducing the energy that consumed by tag is a key requirement for the wider acceptance of the active RFID systems that use battery constrained tags. When the reader is not interrogating, the active RFID standard protocols try to reduce energy consumption of tags by using sleep mode. On sleep mode tags is active by receiving a specific signals from reader, until tag receive a sleep mode command from the reader, a tag waste energy for remaining in RX mode. Overhearing is a state of a tag in which it wastes energy for maintaining active RX state while there is no frame destined to it. According to our analysis, the amount of energy consumed by a tag due to overhearing is several time larger than that consumed by the effective communication. We propose RANO(Reservation Aloha for No Overhearing) that is designed to inform a tag of its effective communication intervals to eliminate overhearing problem in active RFID communication. The performance of the proposed protocol was evaluated through the real world by changing the number of tags and size of data. The result of an experiment, the proposed protocol performed saving about 22 times less than the standard protocol did.

In RFID system. when a variety of tags are present in the interrogation zone of a single reader at the same time, the system requires a multiple tag identification scheme that allows the reader to read data from the individual tags. Anti-collision algorithms required for the multiple tag identification are essential for the implementation of RFID system. This paper analyzed the performance of SFSA algorithm, which is easy to implement. According to the analytical results, the algorithm's performances are closely related with the number of tags and the frame size.

A novel folded dipole type microstrip patch antenna designed for ultrahigh frequency (UHF) band radio frequency identification (RFID) tag is presented in this paper, which can be used on the metallic objects. The presented antenna is fabricated on a very thin Rogers 5880 substrate with a thickness of 0.508 mm. The structure consists of two folded dipole and two symmetrical shorting pins placed at both sides of feed point. An adjustable frequency response can be easy obtained via modify the location and radius of the shorting pins. The antenna has been analyzed by full wave simulations soft. The simulated bandwidth is about 67.2 MHz, which covers the Europe and North America UHF RFID frequency range. A manufactured prototype has been fabricated and measured to demonstrate the antenna performances. The simulation results agree with the measurement data well. The measured maximum reading range of the prototype can be reached 4.1 m in free space, and 3.2 m on a metal plate whose size is $150{\times}150{\times}8mm^3$.
