  • Unlike ordinary recreational facilities, an amusement park consists of various entertainment facilities, attractions, food services, souvenir shops and other attribute. The purpose of this study is to survey users´ responses to such attributes and analyze the importance and performance of each attribute, and thereby, ultimately help improve the efficiency of management and operation of the amusement parks. For this purpose, a survey was conducted of Everland users in August, 1999. 420 users were chosen by means of he systematic sampling. All the suers were asked to rate the importance of 14 attributes of Everland at the entrance and all of them were asked to do the same at the exit. As a result, it was found that the attribute rated highest by the users was ´attraction´, followed by ´service´, ´accessibility´ and ´cost´ in that order. On the other hand, it was found that the total average of importance rated for 14 attributes was 3.31, while that of performance was 3.10. As a consequence of analyzing the action grids, it was found that ´appropriateness of the circulation system´ should be improved most urgently. 7 attributes were categorized as ´keeping up good work´, and 6 ones were rated ´low priority´ in terms of improvement. There was no attribute considered to be ´possible overkill´. Meanwhile, as a result of analyzing the difference among groups in order to determine users´ response depending on their demographic and socio-economic variables, it was found that only the ´age´ variable was significant. It is expected that the results that the results of this study would be useful in determining priorities when improving amusement park facilities or their programs.

  • More than 0.5 percent of land in Korea is used for cemetery and the rate is growing in spite of the increase in cremation these days. The systematic management of tombs may be possible through the ‘Feature Extraction’ method which is applied to the high-resolution satellite imagery. For this reason, this research focused on finding out the radiometric characteristics of tombs and the classification of them. An IKONOS image of northwest areas of Seoul with 8km x 10km dimension was analyzed. After sampling 24 tombs in the study area, the statistical radiometric characteristics of tombs are analyzed. And tombs were classified based on the criteria such as landscape, NDVI, and cluster analysis. In addition, it was investigated if the aspect or slope of the terrain influenced to the classification of tombs. As a result of this research, authors find that there is similarity between the classification tv NDVI and the classification through cluster analysis. And aspect or slope didn't have much influence on the classification of tombs.

  • Objective: This study aims to analyze the relationship between employment status and the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) for manufacturing and construction workers. Methods: Subjects, who had or have worked as temporary workers in manufacturing or construction worksites for the longest career years, were extracted from the KNHANES(2007-2009) database. Characteristics of demographical, socio-economic, and smoking history were treated as independent variables. Considering that smoking experience and age are significantly influential in the prevalence of COPD, logistic regressions were analyzed after stratifying subjects according to their smoking experience and age. A two-stage stratified systematic sampling method was applied for the logistic regression analysis. Results: Age, gender, and household income level were associated with the prevalence of COPD in both smoking and non-smoking groups. However, employment status was only significant among smoking group. Smoking experience and age were significantly related to the prevalence of COPD among all age groups. In addition, employment status and household income level were also associated with the prevalence of COPD in young aged group. But gender was the only significant factor among the elder group. Conclusions: This study confirmed that employment status was a major social factor which may be related to the prevalence of COPD. Proper supports such as providing safety measures should be provided to temporary workers to manage their respiratory health.

  • The Fukushima Daiichi accident in 2011 revealed some vulnerabilities of existing Nuclear Power Plants (NPPs) under extended Station Blackout (SBO) accident conditions. One of the key Severe Accident Management (SAM) strategies developed post Fukushima accident is the In-Vessel Retention (IVR) Strategy which aims to retain the structural integrity of the Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV). RELAP/SCDAPSIM/MOD3.4 is selected to predict the thermal-hydraulic response of APR1400 undergoing an extended SBO. To assess the effectiveness of the IVR strategy, it is essential to quantify the underlying uncertainties. In this work, both the epistemic and aleatory uncertainties are considered to identify the success window of the IVR strategy. A set of in-vessel relevant phenomena were identified based on Phenomena Identification and Ranking Tables (PIRT) developed for severe accidents and propagated through the thermal-hydraulic model using Wilk's sampling method. For this work, a Systems Engineering (SE) approach is applied to facilitate the development process of assessing the reliability and robustness of the APR1400 IVR strategy. Specifically, the Kossiakoff SE method is used to identify the requirements, functions and physical architecture, and to develop a design verification and validation plan. Using the SE approach provides a systematic tool to successfully achieve the research goal by linking each requirement to a verification or validation test with predefined success criteria at each stage of the model development. The developed model identified the conditions necessary for successful implementation of the IVR strategy which maintains the vessel integrity and prevents a melt-through.

  • This study attempts to investigate what systematic support is needed for foreign national students studying in South Korea by analyzing the relationship between foreign national students' life satisfaction and experiences of discrimination. The study utilized neo-racism as a theoretical framework and assumed that foreign national students' experiences of discrimination may lower life satisfaction while disrupting related policies to be effective. Cluster sampling was used to collect surveys, and a total number of 322 cases were analyzed. The study result reveals that experiences of discrimination resulting from students' nationality and Korean language pronunciation led to low life satisfaction in general. Based on the findings, the authors suggest ways to promote awareness around (un)intentional discriminatory actions both at institutional and political levels.
