  • In the context of total quality management, customer satisfaction is a key factor of success. Customer needs have been in the past described with rather vague words. In order to lead in the competitive market, product designers must be willing to interpret and reflect customer perceptions of a product on the design. The objective of this research is to develop a systematic process capable of linking customer preferences on a product to the design of product elements or specifications. The design process consists of multivariate statistical analyses, semantic differentials, and multidimensional scaling techniques under the framework of a methodology known as quality function deployment which is frequently used to construct a quality design process. The process being established is expected to serve as an effective means to communicate between the customer and the designer through proper representational schemes of design elements.

  • We investigate some properties of commonly used residual plots in linear regression and provide some systematic insight into the relationships among the plots. We discuss three issues of linear regression in this stream of context. First of all, we introduce two graphical comparison methods to display the variance inflation factor. Secondly, we show that the role of a suppressor variable in linear regression can be checked graphically. Finally, we show that several other types of standardized regression coefficients, besides the ordinary one, can be obtained in residual plots and the correlation coefficients of one of these residual plots can be used in ranking the relative importance of variables.

  • A systematic methodology has been proposed to establish a reliable design of water pump system. A simplified steady-state dynamic model of water pump system has been developed to study the response of water pump system to the dynamic load mainly due to the run-out and unbalance. Design modifications are needed to strengthen the structural integrity of existing designs. Increasing the natural frequency of system is pursued to prevent a resonance from occurring in the engine excitation range. A computational reliability methodology combined with finite element analysis is used to identify the most significant factor affecting the system performance. This method considered influence of design control parameters for the performance of design. By including control factors to the system model in a systematic way, more reliable design is expected.

  • In a construction project, collaboration amongst the project participants is a critical factor for high-quality results and successful completion of the project. Owing to the advance of information technologies, web-based systems have become more common in the construction industry, but research and development has been made for only limited areas. For organized and systematic collaboration in various fields, collaboration systems have to be developed in a holistic manner based on diverse needs from the whole construction industry. This study aims to investigate the current status of web-based collaboration systems from structural engineers' perspectives and propose an improvement plan. For a systematic analysis of selected cases, we apply a classification of three developmental stages depending on interoperability and organizational levels: structural design and analysis, collaborative design, and integrated design management. Thereafter, the characteristics of each stage are extracted and comparatively analyzed. Lastly, three functional factors were proposed for the improvement of web-based collaboration systems for structural design.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how much people recognise and participate in wastes recycling and to give suggestions for systematic environmental education on the recycling. Subject's recognition degree on recycling mark which had been established by The Ministry of Environment in 1995 was very low and the recycling mark should be educated because it would help people consider the environmental factor when purchase goods which are recyclable or not. They acknowledged simple recycling methods of recyclable goods much but not the complex methods of them. So they need the systematic education on recycling method through which continuous participation of them would be arisen. In the while there is no mention about recycling mark in textbooks which are currently used in Korean elementary schools, middle schools and high schools. Not only the mark but also any kind of environmental information should be updated in environmental textbooks/learning materials to cultivate students environmental literacy to meet current environmental issues dynamically and solve environmental problems in the future successfully.

  • During the course of analysing both single-dish and very long baseline interferometry (VLBI) data obtained from the Korean VLBI Network (KVN), we found a systematic offset between flux density measurements from different antennas. We were able to attribute a majority of the systematic offsets to changes in the "a priori" antenna gains, which were found to have varied up to 10 percent at 22 GHz and up to 30 percent at 43 GHz. Using historical calibrator observations, we present a revised set of gains that may be applied to KVN data taken from 2015 August to 2019 January. Application of the revised gains to the KVN results in a consistency of correlated flux density measurements between the three baselines of approximately five percent. We found that images from the recalibrated data typically have a 50 percent higher dynamic range, with some cases showing an increase of dynamic range of up to a factor of three.

  • In the design of electro acoustic transducer, power factor improvement circuit is more required rather than impedance matching if the driving power amplifier has little inner resistance. Many research results have been focused on the power matching circuit designing for transferring maximum power in the wideband. There are few results in the designing study on the power factor improvement for the wide band electro acoustic transducer. In this paper, we propose a new design method on the power factor improvement for the wide band electro acoustic transducer. The proposed method consists of two steps, the chebyschev matching method and the constrained optimization, respectively.

  • This paper focuses on the SE concept based on the weapon system design, which is the lack of systematic research at the stage of military requirements creation prior to acquisition management phase. Influence factors were derived by focusing on the core issues that were at issue in the process of requirements analysis, requirements verification, and business management in recent years. Next, the impact factor was prioritized using the AHP technique and then alternatives were suggested. As a result, through the hierarchical analysis process, 'substantiation of necessity' was found to be the most important factor in the large category, and 'satisfaction of the operating concept' was the most important factor. In addition, as a result of calculating the final weight for each nutritional factor, it was analyzed in order of 'enemy threat response ability', 'response to operational environment change', 'performance considering operational environment', and 'guaranteed power generation'. The results of this analysis suggest which factors should be focused on, firstly, based on the concept of SE by the military and JCS.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose a modification factor to reflect the lateral stiffness modification when a step is located in flat plates. Reinforced concrete slabs with steps have different structural characteristics that are demonstrated by a series of structural experiment and nonlinear analyses. The corner at the step is weak and flexible, and the associated rotational stiffness degradation at the corner of the step is identified through analyses of 6 types of models using a nonlinear finite element program. Then a systematic analysis of stiffness changes is performed using a linear finite element procedure along with rotational springs. The lateral stiffness of reinforced concrete flat plates with steps is mainly affected by the step length, location, thickness and height. Therefore, a single modification factor for each of these variables is obtained, while other variables are constrained. When multiple variables are considered, each single modification factor is multiplied by the other. Such a method is verified by a comparative analysis. Finally, a complex modification factor can be applied to the existing effective slab width.
