  • Newly constructed plate shape control system, using attached shape measuring instruments and work roll bender, was put in service in No. 2 Plate Mill, POSCO. Recently, customers demand the improvement of flatness and plate crown accuracy. Many competition Plate Mill introducted shape control system, for example, pair cross mill, work roll bender which includes shape measuring instrument and shape control mathematical models, and No. 2 Plate Mill, POSCO introducted work roll bender and shape measuring instruments. This report describes the properties of No. 2 Plate Mill shape control system and work roll bender.

  • The purpose of this study were to organize a sorting system, to develop an algorithm of image processing for the shape sorting, and to finally develop a scientific and objective shape sorting system of Korean Red-Ginseng for mechanization of the shape sorting. The results of this study are followed. 1. The shape sorting system of Korean Red-Ginseng consists of a control computer, a color CCD camera(WV-CP4110) for image processing, an image processing board(DT3153), and an image acquisition unit. 2. Many image processing skill, such as sliding, stretching, threshold, binary and D$\sub$t/ were used to analyze the shape sorting factors of Korean Red-ginseng. 3. The sorting accuracy of the shape sorting system for the Korean Red-Ginseng was 74.7%. It is 21.1% lower than that of human inspector. Although the system has low accuracy, using more cameras may improve its sorting accuracy.

  • Good shape on flat rolled product is necessary to meet today's customer quality requirement. To meet the increasing demand in quality of strip shape from downstream customers, POSCO has replaced the Automatic Shape Control(ASC) system with the existing one that had used noncontact type measuring system at No.2 Cold Rolling Mill, Pohang works in October, 1995. The strip shape is influenced by the profile, roll crown, bending control, skew control system, as well as work roll cooling system. We have used ASC to adjust those factors in Cold Rolling Mill that could get a satisfactory result, almost less than .+-.5 1-unit deviation from the target shape. However, the downstream customer(i.e. Continuos Annealing Line) wants a good shape not only at the moment of exit of roll bite, but after rolling without tension. In this investigation, the difference will be discussed and how deal with this problem.

  • The shape of cold strip for the stainless process has been become issue in quality recently, and hence POSCO (Pohang Iron & Steel Co., Ltd) developed an automatic control system for strip shape in the sendzimir mill. The strip shape is measured by an outward measuring roll and is controlled by As_U roll and first intermediate roll. As_U roll consists of 8 saddles, which are controlled vertically. The fist intermediate rolls, which are controlled horizontally, consist of two pairs of rolls up and down. A developed shape control system is applied to real plant by using fuzzy logic and neural network method to control actuators; As_U roll and first intermediate roll. This system composes mainly of three parts as a real-time system, input to output conditioner board, and man-machine interface. The actual shape is recognized by neural network and converted into symmetric shape. The fuzzy controller, based on the shape from neural network and sensor, controls positions of the As_U roll and first intermediate roll. This paper verifies the shape controller performance. The experiments are made on line for the sendzimir mill. The shape control performance shows very efficient for the target tracking, shape symmetry, and fluctuation of shape.

  • Weld bead shape is an important measure for evaluation of weld quality. Many welding parameters have influence on the weld bead shape. The quantitative relationship between welding parameters and bead shape, however, is not determined yet because of their high complexity and many unknown factors. Fuzzy expert system is an advanced expert system which uses fuzzy rules and approximate reasoning. It is a vert useful tool for welding technology because is can process rationally the uncertain and inexact information such as the welding information. In this paper, the empirical and the qualitative relationship between welding parameters and bead shape are analyzed and represented by fuzzy rules. They are converted to the quantitative relationship by use of approximate reasoning of fuzzy expert system. Weld bead shape is estimated from the welding parameters using fuzzy expert system. The result of comparison between measured values of weld bead by welding experiments and the estimates values by fuzzy expert system shows a good consistancy.

  • In their long journey through the cardiovascular circuit, erythrocytes are coerced to shape transform and assume different shapes on account of varying flow conditions in different blood vessels. The present work was aimed to visualize these erythrocyte shape transformations by an invitro microcirculatory model, and assess multi-shape erythrocyte deformability. The model uses an in-house fabricated, inexpensive disposable micro flow channel to mimic certain invivo conditions and a fast frame video microscopic system for imaging the shape changes in erythrocytes. Results show the multi-shape transformation of erythrocyte christened as discoidal shape, the asymmetrically deformed 'hat' and 'bullet-like' shapes, and the axially deformed 'slipper' and 'spindle-like' shapes. Specific erythrocyte showed the shape transition and transformation while passing through the observed window. The obtained erythrocyte shapes very analyzed for deformability index using image processing techniques that varied significantly (p <0.001) for different shapes as compared with the resting shape.

  • 1. After the Chu Dynasty(周代), we can confirm the fish shape mark made of stones as the relics of the Chunkuk dynasty(戰國時代). In the Shu Dynasty(隋代), the system of bamboo and the rabbit shape mark made of silver into the fish shape mark.   • Multi-pass shape drawing is very important to produce steel profiles in round samples. In the current study, a process design system is developed for a multi-pass shape drawing. In general, the number of passes for a multi-pass shape drawing is 2 to 3 when the reduction ratio, drawing stress, and productivity are considered. Therefore, calculating the drawing stress and designing the intermediated die shapes are very important. In order to calculate the drawing stress, a shape drawing load prediction method is proposed using a general axisymmetric drawing load prediction model. An intermediate die shape design method is proposed using the initial and the final product shapes. Based on this analysis, a process design system is developed for multi-pass shape drawing for steel profiles. The system works with AutoCAD. The system was applied to design a shape drawing of a spline.

The Application of the Growth-Strain Method to the Shape Optimization of the Flow System (유동시스템의 형상 최적화에 성장-변형률법의 적용)

  • In general, shape optimization design of the flow system has done to obtain the effects, which are required in the engineering fields. Most of these designs are accomplished by empirical or numerical analysis. But, in empirical analysis case, it is difficult to obtain an optimal shape in the feasible design region. And, in numerical method case, it usually needs many design parameters, because of the required object-function. In this paper, we present a newly numerical analysis, the growth-strain method having only one design parameter. That optimizes a shape by distributing a design parameter such as dissipation energy to be uniformed in the flow system. Also, we apply this shape design process to the three-flow systems, and then we identify that the resulting shape approaches the known optimal shape in the numerical values. Consequently, we confirm that the proposed method is very efficient and practical in the shape optimization of the flow system.
