Nuclear thermal-hydraulic system analysis codes have been developed to comprehensively model nuclear reactor systems to evaluate the safety of a nuclear reactor system. For analyzing complex systems with finite computational resources, system codes usually solve simplified fluid equations for coarsely discretized control volumes with one-dimensional assumptions and replace source terms in the governing equations with constitutive relations. Wall boiling heat transfer models are regarded as essential models in nuclear safety evaluation among many constitutive relations. The wall boiling heat transfer models of two widely used nuclear system codes, RELAP5 and TRACE, are analyzed in this study. It is first described how wall heat transfer models are composed in the two codes. By utilizing the same method described in Part 1 paper, heat fluxes from the two codes are compared under the same thermal-hydraulic conditions. The significant factors for the differences are identified as well as at which conditions the non-negligible difference occurs. Steady-state simulations with both codes are also conducted to confirm how the difference in wall heat transfer models impacts the simulation results.

Broadband access technologies plays an important role in the national information infrastructure. In the evolution path of the information infrastructure, the relative economics of alternative access technology is the most critical determining factor. In this paper, we discuss the economics of local loop access technologies of existing technologies, such as, ADSL, HFC, and new PLC. To do this, we suggest appropriate configuration of access network system and its associated numerical equations. To modelize access network system and drive the numerical equations, we consider the DS (Double Star) and the T&B (Tree & Brench) architecture and analyse the adequate block diagram of each access system for each technology We introduce the density of subscriber as a key variable and the equation of allocating optimal number of cell in a service area. We analyze the relative economics of local loop architecture in two different situations, that is, urban and rural. From the empirical implementation, we found that for the case of urban area, where the cost of cable and infrastructure is not necessary, there is not much difference in the cost per one subscriber. However, for the case of rural region, we found that there is remarkable difference in the cost per one subscriber among technologies. Therefore we conclude that the economics of local loop architecture is depend on the density of subscriber and existing network infrastructures. we hope that this paper contribute to the optimal technology selection of consmer, technology Providers, and government.

This study presents an extended finite difference method based on moving least squares(MLS) method for solving potential problems with interfacial boundary. The approximation constructed from the MLS Taylor polynomial is modified by inserting of wedge functions for the interface modeling. Governing equations are node-wisely discretized without involving element or grid; immersion of interfacial condition into the approximation circumvents numerical difficulties owing to geometrical modeling of interface. Interface modeling introduces no additional unknowns in the system of equations but makes the system overdetermined. So, the numbers of unknowns and equations are equalized by the symmetrization of the stiffness matrix. Increase in computational effort is the trade-off for ease of interface modeling. Numerical results clearly show that the developed numerical scheme sharply describes the wedge behavior as well as jumps and efficiently and accurately solves potential problems with interface.

The dynamical rotor system is investigated through the derivation and formulations of the dynamic equation of the rotating system in terms of both inertial and fixed frame of the system as well as quaternion. The investigation is aimed at analyzing the dynamical rotating system precession speed. The resulting equations of motion consist of the consistent mass matrix and gyroscopic matrix. The formulation shows its features and difference between its linearity and nonlinearity.

Under the intense-impulsive loading, structures are subjected to the wide range of pressures at an instantaneous time. The constitutive laws capable to describe the material behavior under the extreme pressure as well as the low pressure are necessary for the analysis of the structural behavior under the intense -impulsive loadings. In this study, two plastic models, the pressure independent Von-Mises model and the pressure dependent Drucker-Prager model, are employed for the wave propagation analysis. Governing equations of this study are conservation equations of momentum and mass in Lagrangian coordinate system which is fixed to the material. Due to the shock-front which violates the continuity assumptions inherent in the differential equations numerical artificial viscosity is used to spread the shock front over several computational zones. These equations are solved by Finite Difference Method with discretized time and space coordinates. The associate normality flow rule as a plastic theory is implemented to find the plastic strains.

The stress waves generated by the mechanical energies by impact or the chemical energies by the explosions are transmitted through medium. The wave propagation process through medium is a very complicated procedure due to the reflections and refractions of the waves at the free surfaces and interfaces. In this study the pressure independent Von-Mises model is employed for the wave propagation analysis in the layered systems. Governing equations of this study are conservation equations of momentum and mass in Lagrangian coordinate system which is fixed to the material. Due to the shock-front which violates the continuity assumptions inherent in the differential equations numerical artificial viscosity is used to spread the shock front over several computational zones. To investigate the inundation of tsunamis in the vicinity of a circular island, a numerical model has been developed based on quadtree grids. The governing equations of the model are the nonlinear shallow-water equations. The governing equations are discretized explicitly by using a finite difference leap-frog scheme on adaptive hierarchical quadtree grids. The quadtree grids are generated around a circular island where refined with rectangular or circular domain. Obtained numerical results have been verified by comparing to available laboratory measurements of run-up heights. A good agreement has been achieved.
We analyze queueing model with priority scheduling by supplementary variable method. Customers are classified into two types (type-1 and type-2 ) according to their characteristics. Customers of each type arrive by independent Poisson processes, and all customers regardless of type have same general service time. The service order of each type is determined by the queue length of type-1 buffer. If the queue length of type-1 customer exceeds a threshold L, the service priority is given to the type-1 customer. Otherwise, the service priority is given to type-2 customer. Method of supplementary variable by remaining service time gives us information for queue length of two buffers. That is, we derive the differential difference equations for our queueing system. We obtain joint probability generating function for two queue lengths and the remaining service time. Also, the mean queue length of each buffer is derived.

A kinetic theory analysis is made of low-speed gas flows in a microfluidic system consisted of three microchannels in series. The Boitzmann equation simplified by a collision model is solved by means of a finite difference approximation with the discrete ordinate method. For the evaluation of the present method results are compared with those from the DSMC method and an analytical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions. Calculations are made for flows at various Knudsen numbers and pressure ratios across the channel. The results compared well with those from the DSMC method. It is shown that the analytical solution of the Navier-Stokes equations with slip boundary conditions which is suited fur fully developed flows can give relatively good results. In predicting the geometrically complex flows up to a Knudsen number of about 0.06. It is also shown that the present method can be used to analyze extremely low-speed flow fields for which the DSMC method is Impractical.

Since rattling noise, which occur in mechanical linkage with free play or glove boxes in passenger cars, play an important role in the generation of industrial noise and vibration, it is interest to study these dynamics. A difference equations are derived which described the motions of a mass constrained by pre-compressed spring and forced by a high frequency base excitation. Two types of saddle are founded from these difference equations and the stable and unstable manifolds are constructed in these saddle point. For a certain region in a parameter space of exciting displacement and coefficient of restitution, transversal intersections of stable and unstable manifolds exist. Therefore it is founded that there are large families of periodic and irregular non-periodic motions in rattling system i.e. chaos motion is observed.
