Synchrotron X-ray diffraction study on alkali-activated slag cement and fly ash-based geopolymers (플라이 애시 지오폴리머와 활성 슬래그 시멘트 생성물의 방사광 X선 회절 실험 연구)

  • The alkali activation products of slag, fly ash C and fly ash F were investigated using compressive strength test and synchrotron x-ray diffraction. We propose that the predominantly amorphous geopolymer formed under ambient conditions is a disordered form of one of the ABC-6 group of zeolites, which includes poly-types such as hydroxycancrinite, hydroxysodalite, chabazite, levyne or fransinite.

  • 반도체기술의 발전에 따라 보다 정교한 리소그래피 기술이 요구되고 있으며, x-ray 리소그래피 기술이 다음 세대 리소그래피 기술로 활발히 연구되고 있다. 특히 최근 리소그래피 전용 compact synchrotron 등 관련분야 기술발전에 힘입어 x-ray 리소그래피는 막대한 초기투자에도 불구하고, 전체적으로는 경쟁력을 확보하는 수준에 이르렀으며, 실용화 가능성이 한층 높아졌다. 그러나 아직도 마스크 및 resist 등 해결하여야 할 문제가 많이 남아 있다. 본 고에서는 주로 '80년대 후반에 이루어진 x-ray 리소그래피 기술의 연구개발 현황을 정리하였다. 특히 미국, 일본, 유럽에서의 개괄적인 연구개발 현황과, 고출력 x-ray 광원으로서 실용화에 성큼 다가선 compact synchrotron의 개발현황, x-ray 리소그래피 기술의 핵심중의 하나인 x-ray 마스크 기술개발 현황 등을 중심으로 기술하였다.

Diffusive Shock Acceleration Modeling of Radio Relics in Clusters of Galaxies

  • Cosmological shock waves result from supersonic flow motions induced by hierarchical clustering during the large-scale structure formation in the Universe. Suprathermal particles are known to be produced via plasma interactions at collisionless shocks in tenuous plasmas and they can be further accelerated to become cosmic rays (CRs) via diffusive shock acceleration (DSA). The presence of CR electrons has been inferred from observations of diffuse radio halos and relics in some merging galaxy clusters. We have calculated the emissions from CR electrons accelerated at weak planar shocks, using time-dependent DSA simulations that include energy losses via synchrotron emission and Inverse Compton scattering. The simulated nonthermal emission are used to model the synchrotron emission from several observed radio relics.

The Interfacial Electronic Structure of Organic-organic Heterojunction: Effect of Molecular Orientation

  • The orientation of the constituent molecules in organic thin film devices can affect significantly their performance due to the highly anisotropic nature of ${\pi}$-conjugated molecules. We report here an angle dependent x-ray absorption study of the control of such molecular orientation using well-ordered interlayers for the case of a bilayer heterojunction of chloroaluminum phthalocyanine (ClAlPc) and C60. Furthermore, the orientation-dependent energy level alignment of the same bilayer heterojunction has been measured in detail using synchrotron radiation-excited photoelectron spectroscopy. Regardless of the orientation of the organic interlayer, we find that the subsequent ClAlPc tilt angle improves the ${\pi}-{\pi}$ interaction at the interface, thus leading to an improved short-circuit current in photovoltaic devices based on ClAlPc/C60. The use of the interlayers does not change the effective band gap at the ClAlPc/C60 heterointerface, resulting in no change in open-circuit voltage.

Measurements of Photoabsorption Cross Sections of Nitric Oxide by Using Double-Ionization Chamber

  • A synchrotron light source is useful in the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) regime for olecular spectroscopy, such as photo absorption, photoionization, and dissociative hotoionization. In this research, we used a double-ion chamber (DIC) to measure hotoabsorption cross sections of a NO molecule in the wavelength range from 90 to 135 nm of 3B1 beam-line of the Pohang synchrotron light source with the resolution of the onochromator being 0.06 nm. The appearance wavelength for ionization was measured to be $134.19{\pm}0.09nm$ that is placed in the middle of the reported values though they don't agree with each other within the relative error limits. The auxiliary experimental works ave been done to test if there are any systematic error sources. The resultant ross-sections agree with previous results in general.

  • 대기 중의 에어로졸은 지구의 복사평형에 직·간접적으로 영향을 끼친다. 직접적인 영향으로는 에어로졸이 가시광선과 자외선 영역의 에너지를 산란 또는 흡수함으로써 기후에 영향을 미치며, 간접적으로는 microphysical process에 의한 구름의 특성을 변화시키거나 불균일적인 화학반응을 통해서 복사특성을 지니는 가스들을 변화시킴으로써 기후에 영향을 미친다. 또한 동북아 지역 및 인접한 태평양 지역은 중국과 인접해 있는 관계로 매년 봄철이민 고비사막이나 중국의 황토고원에서 발생한 황사(Asian Dust) 현상에 의해 많은 고통을 겪고 있다. Calculation of the ppressure pprofile for the ppLS Vacuum System

  • A finite element analysis and Monte Carlo method have been applied to calculate the ppressure pprofiles around the ppohang Light Source (ppLS) electron storage ring with the aim of ppredicting the pperformance of the vacuum system designed for the ppLS vacuum system. After ppropperly choosing the design pparameters, the ppressure distribution are calculated as a function of the integrated stored beam current [AmppHrs]. The effect of changes of the vacuum pparameters, such as installed ppumpping sppeeds and synchrotron radiation induced gas desorpption rates on the ppressure pprofile, is also studied. The results indicate that the use of lumpped non-evapporable getter ppumpps together with spputter ion ppumpps for ppumpping the ppLS down to the required ppressure is ppossible in the ppresence of synchrotron induced gas loads, after resonable beam cleaning time.

  • We describe the design of a soft X-ray grating monochromator for synchrotron radiation in the photon energy range 300~1200eV. We investigate the optimum condition in optical parameters of CEM (cylindrical element monochromator), whose performance is well known by Dragon beam line installed recently at Brookhaven National Laboratory by C. T. Chen, fitting the parameter of PLS (Pohang Light Source) storage ring construction.

Characterization of functionalized silicon surfaces and graphenes using synchrotron radiation PES

  • Employing synchrotron radiation based photoemission spectroscopy (PES) and scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), our group have investigated Si surfaces, various graphenes and molecular nanolayers. In this talk, I introduce recent results on the surface related systems. All experiments have been performed at the surface science beamlines, 3A2 and 7B1, in Pohang Accelerator Laboratory, where high resolution PES (HRPES) and angle resolved PES (ARPES) are available. Metals or molecules are adsorbed and sometimes extreme ultraviolet is irradiated onto surfaces to give them special functions. I show several examples for surface functionalzation and how to characterize solid surface using the analysis techniques. In particular, lots of ARPES and STM data are provided from graphenes, a strong candidate for replacing Si and conducting oxide currently used in many electronic and optical devices.

Dislocation Analysis of CVD Single Crystal Diamond Using Synchrotron White Beam X-Ray Topography (가속기 백색광 X-Ray Topography를 이용한 CVD 단결정 다이아몬드 내부 전위 분석)

  • Single-crystal diamond obtained by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) exhibits great potential for use in next-generation power devices. Low defect density is required for the use of such power devices in high-power operations; however, plastic deformation and lattice strain increase the dislocation density during diamond growth by CVD. Therefore, characterization of the dislocations in CVD diamond is essential to ensure the growth of high-quality diamond. In this work, we analyze the characteristics of the dislocations in CVD diamond through synchrotron white beam X-ray topography. In estimate, many threading edge dislocations and five mixed dislocations were identified over the whole surface.
