Point Symbols on Tourist Maps: Cognitive Characteristics with Levels of Symbolization and Preference (관광지도 점기호의 상징수준과 선호도에 나타난 인지특성 연구)

  • This research deals with cognitive characteristics of point symbols on the current tourist maps in terms of the communication theory in considering levels of symbolization and those of preference. The levels of symbolization are examined on the basis of the meaning of point symbols between map-makers and map-users. Preferences of point symbols are investigated by the tourist objects. As a result, when point symbols are expressed in conciseness, the meaning and interpretation about those symbols are highly accorded. And the point symbols that have familiarity by visual experience are preferred. Also, the higher symbolical levels symbols have, the more likely they are preferred. Through that fact, familiarity from the visual experience, conciseness in expression, concreteness of figures expressed in maps, and representativeness of visualized properties were deduced as factors that affect preferences. Those factors work to affect preference complicatedly, but familiarity is prior to simplicity in preferences. Likewise, ways that visualize information, contents that are expressed as images and familiarity in terms of cognitive characteristics make a relative difference in preferences and the levels of symbolization. On the basis of those cognitive characteristics, visual complexity and ambiguity should be removed and the higher symbolical level of point symbols for efficiency of map-reading should be developed.

  • This study based on hypothesis essentiality of character developing is necessary in origin role of cartoons and concern the characteristic of modern society is great many products and consumptions. On contrary to this hypothesis, characters are not importantly utilized in work and planning. As a fundamental research for developing character in cartoon, this research study for personification. Comparative study personification in fable and cartoon. The common feature underlying personification in fable and cartoon are purified expression for object of satire, putting symbolical meaning to target of satire, presenting a diversity of view, reducing descriptions, supporting to understand context easily and playing a role as make interesting and laugh with irony and fantasy.

  • In this paper, we describe a symbolization analysis of a Diamond World Mandala animation. The mandala means the basic idea of the esoteric Buddhism. The Diamond World Mandala has a very high value as cultural archetype due to have better specific meaning and aesthetic quality than other mandalas. Most researches of Buddhist cultural contents have focused on cultural assets restoration and abstract discussion on contents industrialization until now. However researches on contents directly delivering Buddhism scriptures' meanings are insufficient. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze concept of mandala and symbolical meaning of appeared elements in mandala rather than theoretical development appropriateness of mandalas' contents, then implement a prototype of a mandala animation. The animation is made of intangible culture such as an intellectual legacy of mankind, and its applications are as follows; education service for Buddhist doctrines, and cultural services through easy accessibility of Buddhist culture, etc.

  • Recently, the most remarkable word is 'ubiuuitous' in field of information and communication. Ubiquitous has a meaning 'exist everywhere' that means our daily life is connect as network. It means we can get the information which in need whenever and wherever with safety. We predict this word will be symbolical keyword which lead an information-oriented society including the internet a quite long it. It's already per-meate to us the Ubiquitous. It's taken by CCTV when we visit bank. It's made to us can know the fastest way the GPS system to be connected by an artificial satcllite on mobile, and many people use mobile and PDA for investment in stocks. Among them, it has begun to spread many mobile services to us. In this paper, it's the aim a creation of value added through an efficient mobile services to use wireless internet different with previous way, cutting down on expenses and business modeling.

Survey on Setting New Standards for Estimation of Acupoints in the Upper Limb of Normal Adults (정상(正常) 성인(成人) 남녀(男女) 상지부위(上肢部位)의 실측(實測)을 통한 혈부위(穴部位) 도량형(度量衡)의 기준(基準) 정립(定立))

  • Objectives : Weights and measures (度量衡) in Korean traditional medicine have been changed in many dynasties and countries. Thus, measurements of chon (寸) and cheok (尺) have been considered as symbolical meaning in recent studies on meridians and acupoints. The present study was made to settle up standard measurement by surveying length of each parts of upper limb as follows. Methods : To calculate length of 1 chon (寸), the length of each part was divided into the numbers of chon (寸) as shwon in ${\ll}$Goldo Hwangjenaegyeong-yeongchu (靈樞 骨度篇)${\gg}$; the chon (寸) length in ${\ll}$Goldo Hwangjenaegyeong-yeongchu (靈樞 骨度篇)${\gg}$ was compared with the chon (寸) length which is calculated by dividing human average hight into 75 chon. Results : Increment of length of 1 chon (寸) did not change as increment of height in subjects. Length of 1 chon (寸) in height is representative of length of 1 chon (寸) in each parts of upper limb. Conclusions : We suggest that most suitable length of 1 chon (寸)for the standard measurement of acupoint location is 2.20 ${\pm}$ 0.17 cm based on length of elbow joint to wrist joint.

  • This is the time we need differentiated strategy due to consumer's standard of purchasing is becoming more complicated and corporate marketing war is intensely competitive. For a long-term strategy, making competitive corporate image is important because companies have their own competitiveness. In addition, importance of having a relationship with customer is magnified through consumers'direct and indirect experience. "The corporate complex cultural space is designed place for experiential marketing to convey its meaning to consumers." Under above concept, this study analyzed the theory of experiential marketing and conducted a survey which is based on experiential marketing strategic module (SEMs) using the analyzed theory. This study drew expression characteristics of space through case analysis and conducted a survey to have more effective corporate complex cultural space. As a result, the experience in the space enables people to understand of the space through five senses, not consist of simply chucks of sense-date, and this result emphasizes the importance of 'Event' because people tend to escape from restriction for reality to relive stress and have emotional satisfaction. In addition, it shows expression characteristics which provide sympathy as a flexible interaction through symbolical image. The result of the expression characteristics' survey is showed up to improve effect of corporate complex cultural space. This study is analyzing the corporate complex cultural space through experience marketing for the company which wants provide differentiated experience of various space expression methods and catching current position. Also, this study places its significance to give a way to increase space preference and effect of corporate complex cultural space. Based on the result of this study, I hope the future corporate complex cultural space will develop refreshingly.

New Standards for Measurement in Meridians & Acupoints by Taking the Size of Normal Male Legs (정상 성인 남자(男子) 하지부위(下肢部位)의 수혈(?穴) 정위(定位)를 위한 도량형(度量衡) 산출)

  • Objective : Standard of measurement in Korean Medicine has been changed in dynasty and location. Thus, cun (寸) and chi (尺) as unit of measurement for meridians and acupoints could be recognized as the length of equally divided portions of a certain long bone or the distance between two anatomical landmarks and as an symbolical meaning to date. The goal of this study is to propose a new standard measurement in the metric system for the relative measurement of cun and chi as unit of measurement for meridians and acupoints in normal male legs. Methods : This study was conducted by gauging each parts of normal male legs in the metric system and comparing to the relative measurement of cun and chi as follows; to calculate 1 cun, the length of each parts was divided into the unit of cun referred to Measurement of the Bone in Neijing Lingshu (靈樞 骨度篇); it was compared the unit of cun referred to Measurement of the Bone in Neijing Lingshu with cun which was calculated by dividing subject's height into 75 cun, respectively. Result : There has no significant difference in length of 1 cun among each leg's areas based on a standard of subject's height. The unit of cun by the metric length in the legs was similar to the unit of cun referred to Measurement of the Bone in Neijing Lingshu based on each subject's height. Conclusion : It is suggested that an unit of cun as the measurement for meridians and acupoints in the male legs should be considered to the ranges from 2.4cm to 2.6cm.

  • Throughout the world, interest in issues relevant to energy, resources, environment, etc, is ever soaring. Therefore, the restoration of modern architecture that fulfilled its epochal function is working as a cultural, historic medium. In addition, it also plays its role in the side of environmental approach and so on. Moreover, the museum, which was only used for the possession of art collections and exhibition purposes, is currently expanding its scale and range as the center of culture and education. Also in reality, with the use of various programs, it is globally pursuing urban vitalizations. This study looks at the meaning of modem architecture restoration as well as its relationship with urban area. Furthermore, the purpose of this study is to look for design method's direction by finding the relevance between modem architecture restoration and museum during the restoration. This study is based on transformation and preservation scale during the restoration of modern architecture. It analyzed plane and design direction. Additionally, this study analyzed the architectural and regional effect caused by restoration. As a result, in accordance with the direction of museum and the usage, scale, structure as well as superficial aging condition of previous architecture, it shows difference in design methods in the process of restoration. The exterior of architecture was restored and preserved to its original form in order to show the symbolical form through historical value. This is essential to the modern museum. On the other hand, the interior of architecture put more value on utilization concept that its preservation and thus was restored accordingly. However, in all the cases, previous architecture were commonly used and even when alterations and additions were made due to aging and their change in usage, they were restored in a way that preserved and harmonized previous architecture. If the design method for restoration of modern architecture selects the restoration method by considering problems related to location, building value, structure, if it is studied from various angles and is restored after considering its usage as a museum, then we will be able to generate cultural and historical synergy effect. Furthermore, apart from architecture, it will have great impact on urban vitalizations.

The Comparison of Graphing Abilities of pupils in grades 7 to 12 based on TOGS(The Test of Graphing in Science) (중고등학생들의 과학 그래프 작성 및 해석 능력)

  • Science teachers often suppose that students are able to know the symbolical meaning of graphs when they see the graphs. But such a assumption is not based on the firm theories but a mere image. And we need to search them for holding the abilities to construct and to interpret. In addition, unfortunately, many researchers show that they scarcely have the graphing skills. And then, The Test of Graphing in Science(TOGS) was administered to 535 7th to 12th graders, for we search them for holding the graphing abilities to some degree. Though the higher grade, the better score, they lack the first three among 9 objectives of TOGS which are scaling axes, assigning variables to the axes, using a best fit line, plotting points, translating a graph that displays the data, selecting the corresponding value for y(or x), interrelating/extrapolating graphs, describing the relationship between variables, interrelating the results of the two graphs. It was concluded from this that subjects' graph construction is lower than their graph interpretation in graph skills. It suggests that school science have a bias toward graph interpretation. This tendency represents more strikingly in the case of upper students in TOGS than the others'.

Advertisement Design Strategy of According to The Brand Life Cycle (브랜드 수명주기에 따른 광고디자인 전략에 관한 연구)

  • Generally, the brand has its life cycle as the product has. This life cycle is classified into the stages; introduction, growth, maturity and decline. Since the brand is little different from that of the product's, we can find some differences when it applies to the brand. The most effective method to perceive the brand to the consumers is advertisement, therefore in the advertisement design, it is important to figure out the current stage in the brand life cycle and use the most ideal design strategy in that stage. This study suggests the concept of the brand life cycle and the most effective strategy in each stages of the advertisement design. In the stage of the brand introduction, we apply the 'What is it? Strategy' which introduces the brand itself. In the stage of the growth, 'How does it Differ from? Strategy' is suggested as the advertisement strategy emphasizing the positioning which shows its differential competitive advantages among brands because in this stage there are many competitive brands in the market. In the stage of the maturity, we focus on the 'What does it Convey of? Strategy' stressing on the delivery of brand's value to consumers as consumers they purchase the brand. Finally in the stage of the decline, 'What does it Stand for? Strategy' is suggested in order to emphasize the generation of brand's symbolical meaning rather than to emphasize it's attributes or benefits. Therefore the advertisement design needs the contingent ideal design strategy according to the stages of brand life cycle and the effective brand management through it.
