  • In this paper, we introduce the performance of improved symbol timing detection by the superposed difference type symbol timing detection method in the OFDM system. Also, we represent the maximum detection probability of symbol synchronization timing at each received delay signal in multipath channel delay profile in the correlation and difference type symbol timing detection methods. The computer simulation results show that the correlation symbol timing detection method have maximum detection probability at the lead of the nth received delay signal of highest amplitude, but the difference type symbol timing detection method always have maximum detection probability at the lead of the first received delay signal in the channel delay spread of $70nsec{\sim}217nsec$. The simulation results indicate the possibility of the perfect detection of OFDM symbol synchronization timing and it fit well with the results of improved S/N to the eb/n0 and the performance of symbol timing detection of the proposed method.

  • In this paper, we present a scheme to overcome the worst case complexity of the sphere decoder. If the number of visited nodes reaches the threshold, the detected symbol vector is determined between two candidate symbol vectors. One candidate symbol vector is obtained from the demodulated output of ZF receiver which is initial stage of the sphere decoder. The other candidate symbol vector consists of two sub-symbol vectors. The first sub-symbol vector consists of lately visited nodes running from the most upper layer. The second one contains corresponding demodulated outputs of ZF receiver. Between these two candidate symbol vectors, the one with smaller euclidean distance to the received symbol vector is chosen as detected symbol vector. In addition, we show the upper bound of symbol error rate performance for the sphere decoder using the proposed scheme. In the simulation, the proposed scheme shows the significant reduction of the worst case complexity while having negligible SER performance degradation.

  • This paper considers the maximum likelihood (ML) detection of 16-ary differential amplitude and phase shift keying (DAPSK) in Rayleigh fading channels. Based on the conditional likelihood function, two new receiver structures, namely ML symbol-by-symbol receiver and ML sequence receiver, are proposed. For the symbol-by-symbol detection, the conventional DAPSK detector is shown to be sub-optimum due to the complete separation in the phase and amplitude detection, but it results in very close performance to the ML detector provided that its circular amplitude decision thresholds are optimized. For the sequence detection, a simple Viterbi algorithm with only two states are adopted to provide an SNR gain around 1 dB on the amplitude bit detection compared with the conventional detector.

  • In this paper, the idea of using a multiple symbol obervation interval to improve error probability performance is applied to differential detection of MTCM(multiple trellis code modulation) with ${\Pi}$/4 shift QPSK, 8DPSK and 16DPSK. We propose two types of sliding multiple symbol differential detection algorithm, type 1 and type 2. The two types of sliding detection scheme are examined and compared with conventional(symbol-by-symbol) detection and bolck detection with these modulation formats in an additive white Gaussian noise(AWGN) using the Monte Carlo simulation. We show that the amount of improvement over conventional and block detection depends on the number of phases and the number of additional symbol intervals added to the observation. Computer simulagtion results are presented for 2,4,8 states in AWGN channel.

  • In this paper, it is called nonlinear-symbol CPFSK(NCPFSK) which is modulated by the nonlinear function of information carrying phase function within all symbol interval produce time invariant trellis structure. In general, the bit error probability performance of CPFSK modultion scheme within given signal constellation is determined from the number of memory elementsof continuous phase encoder, i.e. number of state. In this paper the number of state of analyticall designed NCPFSK is time invariant. And the nonlinear symbol mapping function of the proposed moudlation produces the nonlinear symbol andthe phase state of the modulation for updating the phase function of NCPFSK. It si shown in this paper nonlinear symbol CPFSK with multiple TCM to make further improvements in d$^{2}$, and analyzed BER performance in AWGN channel envioronments.hannel envioronments.

  • From a periodic sequence, we can obtain new sequences with a longer period by r-symbol insertion to each period. In this paper we review previous results on the linear complexity of periodic sequences obtained by r-symbol insertion. We derive the distribution of the linear complexity of 1-symbol insertion sequences obtained from m-sequences over GF(p), and prove some relationship between their linear complexity and the insertion position. Then, we analyze the k-error linear complexity of the 1-symbol insertion sequences from binary m-sequences.

  • This paper presents and compares several techniques that detect the symbol rate of unknown received signal. Symbol rate is detected from the power spectral density of the circuits such as the delay and multiplier circuit, the square law circuit, and analytic signal, etc. As a result of discrete Fourier transform of the output signals of these circuits, a lot of spectral lines and some peaks appear in frequency domain and the position of first peak is corresponding to the symbol rate. If a spectral line on the frequency that is not located in symbol rate is larger than the first peak, the symbol rate is erroneously detected. Thus, the ratio between the value of first peak and the highest side spectral line is used for the measure of the performance of symbol rate detector. For the MPSK modulation, the analytic signal method shows better performance than the delay and multiplier and square law circuits when the received signal power is lager than -20dB. It is also noted that the delay and multiplier circuit is not able to detect the symbol rate for the QAM modulation.

  • This paper proposes symbol decoding schemes combined with channel estimation techniques for coded orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (COFDM) systems in fading channels. sThe proposed symbol decoding schemes are consisted of a symbol decoding technique and channel estimation techniques. The symbol decoding based on Viterbi algorithm is achieved by matching the length of branch word from encoder trellis to the codeword length of symbol candidate on decoder trellis. Three combination schemes are described and their error performances are compared. The first scheme is to combine a symbol decoding technique with a training channel estimation technique. The second scheme joins a decision directed channel estimation technique to the first scheme. The time varying channel transfer functions are tracked by the decision directed channel estimation technique and the channel transfer functions used in the symbol decoder are updated every COFDM symbol. Finally, In order to reduce the effect of additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) between adjacent subchannels, deinterleaved average channel estimation technique is combined. The error performances of the three schemes are significantly improved being compared with that of zero forcing equalizing schemes.

  • This study analyzed the concept of equal symbol(=) that is the most symbol used in learning of mathematics and investigated students' understanding of that. The equal symbol is endowed with the 'same', 'equal', and 'equivalent' meaning, represented by =, but students interpret the meaning of equal symbol according to the mathematical con text. Thus, we analyzed the equal symbol on the basis of the theory of conceptual fields. In the theory of conceptual fields, concept is a three-tuple of three sets of situation, operational invariants and symbolic representations, and the operational invariants are the concept-in-action and the theorems- in-action. With the analysis contents, we investigated how students read = by korean, what equals in the expression containing = or by what meaning students used =, and which they could correct the error for =. This study imply that we should consider the symbol notation agreed by mathematical society, the meaning, and the situational context that it used, when we teach the mathematics symbols.
