  • 본 논문은 가변형 공유 버퍼 ATM 스위치의 구조 및 VLSI 구현에 관한 연구이다. 본 논문에서 설계한 단일 칩 공유 버퍼 ATM 스위치는 4ns접근속도의 가변형 파이프라인 방식 공유 버퍼를 내장하고 기존의 공유 버퍼 ATM 스위치들이 가지는 메모리 사이클 시간 제한을 해결한다. 내장 버퍼의 가변성을 이용하여 유연한 스위칭 성능을 지원하고 버퍼 메모리 제어와 주소 큐 제어의 독립성을 이용하여 포트 사이즈의 가변성을 제공한다. 제안된 ATM 스위치는 스위치 사이즈와 버퍼 사이즈의 가변성을 이용하여 복잡한 회로의 재설계 없이 용량 및 성능을 재구성할 수 있다. 0.6um CMOS 기술의 설계된 칩은 동작 주파수 800MHz, 640Mbps/port, 4 ${\times}$ 4 Switch Size를 지원한다.

ABR 흐름 제어를 위한 효율적인 명시율 피드백 스위치 알고리즘 (An Efficient Explicit Rate Feedback Switch Algorithm for the ABR Flow Control)

  • 본 논문에서는 기존의 폭주 회피형 명시율 트래픽 (Explicit Rate feedback) 스위치 알고리즘의 단점을 개선하여 버퍼의 수위와 변화율에 따라 동적으로 목표 이용률을 조장하여 링크 이용 효율을 향상시킨 효율적인 명시율 피드백 스위치 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 그리고, 시뮬레이션을 통하여 기존의 대표적인 명시율 피드백 스위치 알고리즘인 ERICA 스위치와 NIST 스위치의 성능을 분석하고, 제안된 명시율 피드백 스위치 알고리즘과 비교하였다. 시뮬레이션 결과 제안된 ER 피드백 스위치는 동적인 목표 이용률의 조정을 통하여 가용 대역폭의 변화에 빠른 전송률의 변화를 보였으며, 스위치의 최대 큐 길이를 줄여 버퍼 범람을 방지하면서도 매우 높은 링크 이용 효율을 보여 성능이 개선됨을 알 수 있었다.

Simulator for Dynamic 2/3-Dimensional Switching of Computing Resources

  • In this paper, as part of the research for the infrastructure of very high flexible and reconfigurable data center using very high speed crossbar switches, we developed a simulator that can model two and three dimensional connection structure of switches with an efficient control algorithm using software defined network and verified the functions and analyzed the performance accordingly. The simulator consists of a control module and a switch module that was coded using Python language based on the Mininet and Ryu Openflow frameworks. The control module dynamically controls the operation of switching cells using a shortest multipath algorithm to calculate efficient paths adaptively between configurable computing resources. Performance analysis by using the simulator shows that the three-dimensional switch architecture can accommodate more hosts per port and has about 1.5 times more successful 1:n connections per port with the same number of switches than the two-dimensional architecture. Also simulation results show that connection length in a 3-dimensional way is shorter than that of 2-dimensional way and the unused switch ratio in a 3-dimensional case is lower than that of 2-dimensional cases.

Smart Multiple-Tap System Based on WiFi for reduction of Standby-Power

  • In this paper, we proposed a smart multiple-tap system which a remote user with smartphone can control multiple-taps in order to reduce standby-power consumption more conveniently when plugged-in electric appliances are turned-off. Recently, several researches of smart multiple-tap using IoT technology has reported. However, in these researches, an additional device like as a server computer is necessary, or multiple-taps could be only remotely controlled by smartphone and not directly controlled by on/off switch. The proposed smart multiple-tap system does not need any additional device only if it has a WiFi router, and it can be used for user as well as remote control using smartphone application and physically direct control using contact switches like existing multiple-taps. Our approach is to develop a smart multiple-tap device capable of WiFi communication can each serve as a server or a client, and can be operated by the hybrid switch combining the on/off contact switch and the relay switch. We implemented the prototype of the proposed system composed of the smart multiple-tap device and the smartphone application, and the test of the prototype validates the proposed system.

Ethernet-Based Avionic Databus and Time-Space Partition Switch Design

  • Avionic databuses fulfill a critical function in the connection and communication of aircraft components and functions such as flight-control, navigation, and monitoring. Ethernet-based avionic databuses have become the mainstream for large aircraft owning to their advantages of full-duplex communication with high bandwidth, low latency, low packet-loss, and low cost. As a new generation aviation network communication standard, avionics full-duplex switched ethernet (AFDX) adopted concepts from the telecom standard, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM). In this technology, the switches are the key devices influencing the overall performance. This paper reviews the avionic databus with emphasis on the switch architecture classifications. Based on a comparison, analysis, and discussion of the different switch architectures, we propose a new avionic switch design based on a time-division switch fabric for high flexibility and scalability. This also merges the design concept of space-partition switch fabric to achieve reliability and predictability. The new switch architecture, called space partitioned shared memory switch (SPSMS), isolates the memory space for each output port. This can reduce the competition for resources and avoid conflicts, decrease the packet forwarding latency through the switch, and reduce the packet loss rate. A simulation of the architecture with optimized network engineering tools (OPNET) confirms the efficiency and significant performance improvement over a classic shared memory switch, in terms of overall packet latency, queuing delay, and queue size.

Sensorless Control of PMSM by a Four-Switch Inverter with Compensation of Voltage Distortion and Adjustment of Position Estimation Gain

  • This paper proposes performance improvement schemes for sensorless PMSM control drive using a four-switch three-phase inverter (so-called B4 inverter). In the proposed scheme, the back-EMF estimation-based sensorless control algorithm is used to control the brushless PMSM without position sensors. In order to have stable operation, this paper presents a gain adjustment scheme that compensates the reduction of stable sensorless operation range as long as the rotor speed increases. In B4 topology, the center point of dc-link capacitors is connected to 3-phase load, and it is prone to have the load current distortion. Hence, to mitigate this problem, a distortion compensation scheme by modifying voltage commands using measured dc-link potentials is proposed in this paper. The validity of the proposed method is evaluated by simulations and experiments.

  • This paper presents a new switch-control approach for multiphase interleaved converters. Development of the proposed technique is based on control-signal generation for multi-unit synchronization. Current sharing among the switching cells and voltage regulation are achieved by means of a multi-loop control scheme regardless of changes in input voltage and load. System stability is ensured by single-pole compensation. This proposed technique is straightforward, reliable and inexpensive, and can be applied to any higher number of cells without difficulty.

  • Hybrid fuzzy gain scheduling controller is composed of a PD control and a fuzzy control for taking the advantage of each scheme. The key structure of the hybrid fuzzy gain scheduling control scheme is so called a switch which calculates weighting values between the fuzzy controller and the PD controller. However, due to the requirement of the switch , the hybrid fuzzy gain scheduling control scheme needs extra fuzzy logic processing, thus the structure is complicated. and requires more calculation time. To eliminate the drawbacks, a new hybrid fuzzy gain scheduling control scheme is proposed in this paper. In the proposed scheme, the membership function, for calculating of weithting value, and the input and output membership functions are combined. Thus the proposed hybrid scheme does not require switch for calculation of weighting value, and as a result, the calculation time is faster and the structure is more simple than the existing hybrid controller. Computer simulation results for an inverted pendulum model under Pole-Placement PID controller, fuzzy gain scheduling controller,existing hybrid controller , and proposed hybrid controller are compared to demonstrate the good property of the proposed hybrid controller.

Compatibility of the Direction Sign on the Pendant Switch of Overhead Cranes

  • Objective: The aim of this study is to suggest the standard of the direction sign on the pendant switch of overhead cranes which can reduce human errors in control. Background: A great number of crane accidents occur in industries. One of the major causes of the accidents is the mistake in the control of cranes by confusing the orientation of crane movements. Nevertheless, three different direction sign styles, 'East, West, South, North (EWSN)', 'Forward, Backward, Left, Right (FBLR)', and arrows for four directions are used without standardization. Method: An overhead crane simulator was installed for a laboratory experiment. It could move along six directions by the control of a pendant switch. 90 participants were evenly assigned to the three different conditions of direction sign styles. The participants were asked to control the pendant switch according to the continuously appearing 16 direction signs on a monitor ahead. The participants were allowed to refer an orientation sign board on the ceiling representing correct movement directions of the overhead crane simulator. Results: The direction sign style, 'EWSN', showed statistically significant better performance in task completion time and number of errors than the other sign styles. The direction sign style, 'EWSN', adopting the cardinal direction system, made the participants clear in direction controls after customizing to the crane movements. However, the direction sign styles, 'FBLR' and the arrows adopting the relative direction system made conflicts in direction controls due to the egocentric view of human. Conclusion: The direction sign style, 'EWSN', is the most appropriate for the standardization of the direction sign on the pendant switch of overhead cranes. Application: The results of this study can be applied to the standardization of direction sign in the legal notification on the safety certifications of crane manufacturing.

대용량 통신위성 전력조절을 위한 전력제어장치개발 (Power Control & Distribution Unit Development for Bus Power Control of Communication Satellite with Large Capacity)

  • This paper presents Power Control and Distribution Unit development of GEO satellite with 3kW power output. The sensing error of bus voltage produce control signal of the shunt switch assembly and battery power converter, and the tolerance of error signals generated decide the stability of proposed system. The dynamic characteristics of main bus according to the load changing and the control logic of FPGA are simulated. In order to verify the proposed design, the simulation and experimental results for solar array shunt switch, battery power converter and bus controller are shown.
