Design of Quality Metrics and Accreditate Procedure for SW Process Improvement based on K-model (K-모델기반의 소프트웨어 프로세스 품질 척도 및 인증절차 설계)

  • In order to make high quality software and high reliability software, systematic development management and organizational support are essential needed. Since 1990's Software process models such as ISO/IEC 15504 and CMMI have been used to improve organization capability. But these models have problems that are used to apply on large scaled organization or large project and so many practices are actually required. We present characteristics of ISO/IEC 15504, CMMI and K-model can easily apply to small and medium sized business or project, and propose the standard quality metric and accreditate procedure based on K-model for measuring quantitative quality level.

  • Not a few nations have tried to copy the success of Silicon Valley since 1980's. Research of information communication industry cluster has emerged in Korea since 1990. In this background this paper thoroughly reviewed scholarly literature related to industry cluster with an attempt to extract dominant factors for cluster formation, and designed a survey instrument to measure the status-quo of cluster formation of software industry in Chungbuk Province Korea, as an example. Based on the results from statistical analysis a strategic scheme was proposed to propel software industry cluster formation in the region.

  • Jansen mechanism is composed of mechanical walking linkages that are designed and optimized by Theo Jansen in 1990. Although he has made optimum values for linkage dimensions for Jansen Mechanism, there are still various applications for this mechanism and also various optimum values for each application. In this paper, Jansen Mechanism optimization has been processed for the Science Box. The Science Box has its own linkage dimensions and related components and makes space for optimization process. For the optimization 3 to 4 linkage were selected which had no similar ratios of linkages between other applied Jansen mechanisms and to reduce experiment numbers. Response Surface Method was used with Minitab 17 for optimization and m.sketch was used for experimentation. Intuitive method had to be used to find optimum values as with RSM optimum value could not be found. EDISON Designer was used to make final CAD model with optimum values and laser cutter was used to get appropriate acryl panels for legs.

  • Software and Systems Product Line(SSPL) is a paradigm that has been developed and applied by European Union(EU) to achieve the productivity and competitiveness of EU industries on the world market. It is not just a simple system or software development methodology, but a sophisticated technology requiring capabilities for a high level of mass customization, platforms, processes and convergence of software and systems. EU has applied SSPL for the five selected industrial sectors including aerospace, automobile, medical equipment, consumer electronics and telecommunication equipment since 1990s and led the way to other industry sectors to stimulate the application of SSPL from 2006. In order for Korea to secure competitiveness in the manufacturing and service industries in the competitive borderless market, it is essential to gain the high level of capabilities for software development and convergence of software and systems. SSPL can be a powerful means to achieve this end. This paper discusses the paradigmatic concept of SSPL, how EU's major industries and companies have secured competitiveness through SSPL, key capabilities that are necessary for successful institutionalization of SSPL in Korea, and finally suggestions on core strategies to materialize the benefits of SSPL for Korea.

Hypermethylation-mediated silencing of NDRG4 promotes pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma by regulating mitochondrial function

  • The N-myc downstream regulated gene (NDRG) family members are dysregulated in several tumors. Functionally, NDRGs play an important role in the malignant progression of cancer cells. However, little is known about the potential implications of NDRG4 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). The aim of the current study was to elucidate the expression pattern of NDRG4 in PDAC and evaluate its potential cellular biological effects. Here, we firstly report that epigenetic-mediated silencing of NDRG4 promotes PDAC by regulating mitochondrial function. Data mining demonstrated that NDRG4 was significantly down-regulated in PDAC tissues and cells. PDAC patients with low NDRG4 expression showed poor prognosis. Epigenetic regulation by DNA methylation was closely associated with NDRG4 down-regulation. NDRG4 overexpression dramatically suppressed PDAC cell growth and metastasis. Further functional analysis demonstrated that up-regulated NDRG4 in SW1990 and Canpan1 cells resulted in attenuated mitochondrial function, including reduced ATP production, decreased mitochondrial membrane potential, and increased fragmented mitochondria. However, opposite results were obtained for HPNE cells with NDRG4 knockdown. These results indicate that hypermethylation-driven silencing of NDRG4 can promote PDAC by regulating mitochondrial function and that NDRG4 could be as a potential biomarker for PDAC patients.

Crustal Structure Beneath Korea Seismic Stations (Inchon, Wonju and Pohang) Using Receiver function (수신함수에 의한 한국 지진관측소(인천, 원주 포항) 하부의 지각구조 연구)

  • The broadband receiver functions are developed from teleseismic P waveforms recorded at Wonju(KSRS), Inchon(IRIS), and Pohang(PHN), and are analyzed to examine the crustal structure beneath these stations. The teleseismic receiver functions are inverted in the time domain of the vertical P wave velocity structures beneath the stations. Clear P-to-S converted phases from the Moho interface are observed in teleseismic seismograms recorded at these stations. The crustal velocity structures beneath the stations are estimated by using the receiver function inversion method(Ammon et al., 1990). The general features of inversion results are as follows: (1) For the Inchon station, the Conrad discontinuity exists at 17.5 Km(SW) deep and the Moho discontinuity exists at 29.5 Km(NW) and 30.5 Km(SE, SW) deep. (2) The shallow crustal structure beneath Wonju station may be covered with a sedimentary rock of a 3 Km thickness. The average Moho depth is assumed about 33.0 Km, and the Conrad discontinuity may exist at 17.0 Km(NE) and 21.0 Km(NW) deep. (3) For Pohang station, the thickness of shallow sedimentary layer is a 3.0 Km in the direction of NE and NW. The Moho depth is 28.0 Km in the direction of the NE and NW. The Conrad discontinuity can be estimated to be existed at 21.0 Km deep for the NE and NW directions.

Effects of Temperatures on Development and Distribution of Mulberry scale, Pseudaulacaspis pentagona, within Tree (온도조건이 뽕나무깍지벌레의 발육 및 수내분포에 미치는 영향)

  • These studies were conduced to investigate the effects of temperatures on development of each stage and distribution within tree and overwintering of mulberry scale, Pseudaulacaspis pentagona Tar. & Tozz. Growth ratio of each stage with different temperatures was not significant within range of optimum temperatures of growth. Developmental threshold and effective temperatures of each stage were $12.3^{\circ}C$ and 46.9 degree day in eggs, $10.8^{\circ}C$, and 183.8 degree day in first nymph, $9.8^{\circ}C$ and 188.2 degree day in second nymph, $10.3^{\circ}C$ and 383.0 degree day in gross nymphal stage, respectively. Longevity of female adults were 39.6 days in $18^{\circ}C$, 28.4 days in $22^{\circ}C$, 18.1 days in$26^{\circ}C$, and 15.7 days in$30^{\circ}C$. Average number of eggs in ovary and laid by individual female were 83.3 and 75.7, respectively. Optimum temperatures of growth were $22^{\circ}C$-$26^{\circ}C$ but all the eggs were not hatched at $35^{\circ}C$. Distribution of each stage within tree in summer was great at lower part of branch and overwintering adults was dominantly located in NE-SE followed by SE-SW, SW-NW and NW-NE. Percent mortality due to cold weather was 36.2.

The Distribution and Geomorphic Changes of Natural Lakes in East Coast Korea (한반도 동해안의 자연호 분포와 지형 환경 변화)

  • This study aims to analyze distribution of natural lakes including lagoonal lake(lagoon) and tributary dammed lake(tributary lake) and calculate the size, morphology in order to interpret time-serial change of lakes using methodology of remote sensing images(1990s), GIS and topographic maps(1920s) in east coast of Korean Peninsular. Analysis results show that in 1990s, there are 57 natural lakes, with the total size of $75.62km^2$ over size $0.01km^2$. marine-origin lagoons are 48 with total size of $64.85km^2$, composing 85% of total natural lake, and the largest lagoon is Beonpo in Raseon City. Tributary lakes have been formed by damming of tributary channels by fluvial sand bars from main stream, located nearby at coastal zone, similar to lagoon sites. Large tributary lake, Jangyeonho, is developed in lava plateau dissection valley of Eorang Gun, Hamnam Province. There are more distributed at Duman River mouth$\sim$Cheongjin City, Heungnam City$\sim$Hodo Peninsular and Anbyeon Gun$\sim$Gangreung City. Geomorphometrically, correlation of size to circumference is very high, but correlation of size to shape irregularity is very low. The direction of lagoonal coast, NW-SE and NE-SW are predominated due to direction of tectonic structure and longshore currents. The length of the river into lake are generally short, maximum under 15km, and lake size is smaller, degree of size decreasing is higher. Geomorphic patterns of the lake location are classified as coast-hill range, coastal plain, coastal plain-channel valley, coastal plain-hill range and channel valley-hill range. During from 1920s to 1990s, change with lake size decreasing is highest at coastal plain-channel valley, next is coastal plain. Causes of the size decreasing are fluvial deposition from upper rivers and human impacts such as reclamation.

Characteristics of Meteorological and Marine Environments for the Red Tide Occurrence of Mid-South Sea in Korea (한국 남해중부해역의 적조발생에 관한 기상 및 해양환경 특성)

  • This study deals with the relationship between the red tide occurrence and the meteorological and marine factors, the prediction of areas where the red tide is likely to occur based on the information, and the satellite monitoring for the red tide in mid-South Sea of Korea. From 1990 to 2001, the red tide was observed every year and the number of occurrences increased as well. The red tide mostly occurred in July, August, and September. The most important meteorological factor governing the mechanisms of the increase in the number of red tide occurrences is found to be a heavy precipitation. It was found that the favorable marine environmental conditions for the red tide formation are some of marine factors such as the warm water temperature, the low salinity, the high suspended solid, the low phosphorus, and the low nitrogen. The necessary conditions for the red tide occurrence are found to be the heavy precipitation (23.4-54.5 mm) for 2∼4 days, the warm temperature $(24.6∼25.9^{\circ}C)$, proper sunshine (2∼10.3 h), and light winds (2∼4.6 m/s & SW) for the day in red tide occurrence. It was possible to monitor the spatial distributions and concentration of the red tide using the satellite images. It was found that the likely areas for red tide occurrence in August 2000 were Yosu - Dolsan coast, Gamak bay, Namhae coast, Marado coast, Goheung coast, and Deukryang bay.
