Conceptual design of prestressed slab bridges through one-way flexural load balancing

  • In this paper a study on prestressed concrete slab bridges is presented. A design philosophy based on the concept of load balancing through prestressing is proposed in order to minimize the effects of delayed deformations due to creep. Aspects related to the stress redistribution inside these bridges for time-dependent phenomena are analyzed and discussed, by applying the principles of aging linear visco-elasticity. Prestressing is seen as an equivalent external load which counterbalances the permanent loads applied to the bridge, nullifying the elastic deflections due to sustained loads, and thus avoiding the related delayed deformations. An optimization of the structural behavior through the use of one-way prestressing is achieved. The determination of a convenient variable depth of slab bridges and the correspondent layout of tendons is considered as a useful means for applying the load balancing concept in actual cases of structures like long cantilevers or bridge decks. A case-study related to the slab bridges built 30 years ago at Jeddah in Saudi Arabia is presented and discussed, in order to show the effectiveness of the proposed approach to the conceptual design of prestressed concrete bridges.

  • 무선 랜용 시스템에 응용할 수 있는 스마트 스킨의 좌굴에 따른 성능변화에 대하여 살펴보았다. 스마트 스킨 구조물은 샌드위치 구조물을 응용한 것으로써 3층의 면재가 있으며 각 면재 사이에는 하니콤 심재가 있다. 좌굴하중을 Rayleigh-Ritz방법에 의하여 예측하고 실험결과와 비교하였다. 압축시 심재를 둘러싸고 있는 면재만 하중을 지지한다고 가정하여 좌굴이 발생하지 않는 시편의 길이를 계산하였으며, 그 근방에서는 좌굴 현상이 명확이 발생하지 않음을 확인 할 수 있었다. 시편의 길이가 길어 좌굴이 명확하게 발생한 경우 예측식과 잘 일치하였다. 좌굴의 진행정도에 따른 반사 계수와 방사패턴을 측정하여 안테나의 성능변화에 대하여 살펴보았으며, 하중지지능력이 상실된 후에 안테나의 기능이 상실됨을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, we propose new unified methodologies of reliability and its cost evaluation in power distribution systems. The unified method means that the proposed reliability approaches consider both conventional evaluation factor, i.e. sustained interruptions and additional ones, i.e. momentary interruptions and voltage sags. Because the three voltage quality phenomena generally originate from the outages on distribution systems, the basic and additional reliability indices are summarized considering the fault clearing mechanism. The proposed unified method is divided into the reliability evaluation for calculating the reliability indices and reliability cost evaluation for assessing the damage of customer. The analytic and probabilistic methodologies are presented for each unified reliability and its cost evaluation. The time sequential Monte Carlo technique is used for the probabilistic method. The proposed DVL(Demand Varying Load) model is added to the reliability cost evaluation substituting the average load model. The proposed methods are tested using the modified RBTS(Roy Billinton Test System) form and historical reliability data of KEPCO(Korea Electric Power Corporation) system. The daily load profile of the each customer type in domestic are gathered for the DVL model. Through the case studies, it is verified that the proposed methods can be effectively applied to the distribution systems for more detail reliability assessment than conventional approaches.

  • In this paper, the distortion of an electrical pulse with rise/fall time resulting from dispersion and reflection as it propagates along a tapered microstrip line is investigated, and the delay time and distortion rate with respect to input and load impedances are analyzed on triangular and exponential tapered lines and analyzed the influence of the reflection and frequency dispersion on the distorted voltage wave in the tapered lines. The observed overshoot in front of the distorted wave is caused due to the frequency dispersion and the sustained tail of that comes from the reflection in the tapered line.

  • Fracture and dislocation of the four lateral metatarsal head and neck at the metatarsophalangeal joint, which may be associated with a hyperextension force, axial load, and additional rotating force, has rarely been reported. The patient was a 32-year-old man who sustained the injury in a motor vehicle accident. Manual reduction was easily performed but maintenance of reduction was difficult, due to the associated fractures of the metatarsal necks. Thus percutaneous internal fixation with Kirshner's wires was required.

  • This paper presents the results of an experimental investigation pertaining to the creep behavior of fiber-reinforced polymeric (FRP) pultruded components subjected to sustained eccentric axial loading. Six different axial load/eccentricity combinations were investigated through the experiments. The test duration of these experiments was 2,000 hours (90 days), during which the mid-height lateral deflections of the components were recorded continually. Analytical formulations based on the Schapery's quasielastic method and a power law model were used for the prediction of the creep lateral deflection.

  • Under sustained load, the stress variation occurs due to creep and shrinkage of concrete on the sections of steel-concrete composite girders. In standard specification for highway bridge, the method of stress estimation considering time effects is based on the concept of Yassumi method. In this study, comparing the analysis results using the AEMM and Yassumii method long-term behaviors, the rationality of specified requirements is checked.

  • Only do we have an earth! It is crucially important to improve our living environment and keep the sustained development of a city in the limited space. Some concrete examples will be analysized in the paper, elaborating upon how to make full use of roof space and various plants to create a better green-space. To create different activity space with unique characteristics for people, various plants, roof-space, water and buildings in the style of garden should be use when local conditions and design requirement should be considered.

탄소섬유 복합재료 사각튜브의 압추에너지 흡수 특성

  • 본 연구는 탄소섬유 복합재료 사각튜브의 압축 에너지 흡수 특성을 실험적으로 규명하였으며, 유한요소해석을 통해서 그 특성을 예측하였다. 압축 속도는 0.003mm/sec 와 0.3mm/sec로 하여 사각튜브에 가하였으며, 적층각 별로 실험을 하여 각각에 대한 압축 에너지 흡수 특성인 최대 압축하중과 평균하중을 찾았다. [0/90]₄와 [0/±45/90]₂의 특정 적층각을 가지는 사각튜브에 대해 유한요소해석을 수행하여 최대 압축하중을 예측하였다. 유한요소모델은 좌굴해석을 통해서 나온 형상과 원래 형상을 중첩하였으며, 해석방법은 Tsai-Wu criteria를 사용하였다. 실험으로부터 최대 압축하중은 인 사각튜브에서 나타났고 평균 압축하중은에서 나타났으며, 특정각을 가지는 사각튜브에 대한 최대 압축하중 예측은 실험과 거의 일치하였다.

개량형 점하중강도시험기의 개발 (Development of an Improved Point Load Apparatus)

  • 기존의 점하중시험기는 재하점간 중심축의 일치성에서 문제가 발생하는 경우가 존재하며 압력게이지를 통해서 시료에 가해지는 하중을 산정하기 때문에 정확성이 결여될 수 있는 단점이 있다. 본 연구는 원추판을 저항판과 함께 밀어 올리는 방식을 사용하고 지지 연마봉에 선형베어링을 장착하여 연속적으로 반복되는 시험에도 재하점의 축간 편심오차를 0.1 mm 이하로 유지한 개량형 점하중시험기를 개발하였다. 또한 반복되는 시험에서 재하점간의 거리를 자동으로 측정하고 편심오차를 확인하기 위하여 두 개의 디지털게이지를 부착하였다. 상부 원추판 끝단에 장착한 로드셀은 시료에 가해지는 순수 하중을 측정하여 압력계 방식인 기존의 점하중시험기가 가지는 단점을 보완하였다. 개발된 개량형 점하중시험기는 화성암, 편마암, 셰일에서 선택된 표준 코어시료에 대하여 총 107회의 점하중강도시험을 수행하고 품질과 성능이 검증되었다.
