Overlap cutting is a fundamental method of applying abrasive water jet (AWJ) machining to milling to produce a wider surface because the nozzle outlet is approximately 1.0 mm wide. In this study, the effects of overlap cutting on the depth profile and surface roughness are investigated. The overlapping area depends on the amount of step over, which is controlled in the pick-feed direction. If the step over is equal to or larger than the diameter of the nozzle, no overlap cut occurs but large cusps remain between the cut paths. A step over as small as one-thirds of the nozzle diameter may lead to triple-overlap cutting resulting in an extraordinary depth. By using pocket milling experiments with a step over of 0.46 (or 0.47), it is verified that AWJ can produce a milled surface of titanium, one of the hard-to-cut materials, with $76{\mu}m$ Ra.
Using spin-polarized density-functional theory calculations, we find that the existence of either Peierls instability or antiferromagnetic spin ordering is sensitive to hydrogen passivation near the step. As hydrogens are covered on the terrace, the dangling bond electrons are localized at the step, leading to step-induced states. We investigate the competition between charge and spin orderings in dangling-bond (DB) wires of increasing lengths fabricated on an H-terminated vicinal Si(001) surface. We find antiferromagnetic (AF) ordering to be energetically much more favorable than charge ordering. The energy preference of AF ordering shrinks in an oscillatory way as the wire length increases. This oscillatory behavior can be interpreted in terms of quantum size effects as the DB electrons fill discrete quantum levels.
The influence of cyclic treatments with H2O2/DIW (1 : 10) and HF/DIW (1 : 100) on the roughness of silicon surface in the wet chemical processing was investigated by atomic force microscopy (AFM). During the step of the SC-1 cleaning, there is a large increase in roughness on the silicon surface which will result in the poor gate oxide breakdown properties. The roughness of the silicon wafer after the SC-1 cleaning step was reduced by cyclic treatments of hydrogen peroxide solution and hydrofluoric acid solution instead of HF-only cleaning. AFM images after each step clearly illustrated that the average roughness of silicon surface after three times treatments with H2O2 and HF solutions was reduced by 10 times compared with that after the SC-1 cleaning step.
Microstructural examinations were performed on the anaerobic biofilm from reactor filled with PE support media. Optical microscope, SEM and fluorescent microscope were used for qualitative and morphological studies on the attached microorganism under anaerobic condition. Microorganisms were attached in crevices where protection from shear forces of surfaces where easy to contact with support media surface. A hypothesis for biofilm accumulation occurs on a surface such as polymer support media is presented schematically : 1st step ; cell-support media attachment, 2nd step ; cell-support media attachment and cell-cell attachment, 3rd step ; attached biofilm from neighboring crevices joins together and growing, 4th step ; mature and irregualar biofilm was formed. In SEM photographs, shape and structures of biofilm were observed, but microorganism species and methanogens were not identified. A large number of methanogenic bacteria were identified on the surface of PE substratum by fluorescence under 480nm of radiation and it was estimated that methanogenic bacteria was related to initial attachment of bacteria under anaerobic condition.
Surface doped SOI RESURF LDMOSFET with recessed source region is proposed to improve the on- and off-state characteristics. Surface region of the proposed LDMOS structure is doped like step. The characteristics of the proposed LDMOS is verified by two-dimensional process simulator ATHENA and device simulator ATLAS[1]. The numerically calculated on-resistance($R_{ON}$) of the proposed LDMOS is $10.36\Omega-cm$ and breakdown voltage is 205V when $L_{dr}=7{\mu}m$ with step doped surface.
Recently, the important issues of solar cell are low cost and high efficiency. Making low cost and high efficiency solar cell, there are many effects to development of inexpensive wafer, simplify process and improve optical, electrical properties. In this the study, the 2 step texturing method using micro blaster was developed to decrease reflection of incident lights. Air bridge electrode structure is suggested to expand the effective surface area and decrease the series resistance of finger electrode. The effects of 1 step texturing and 2 step texturing by micro blaster are compared. Reflectance of 1 step and 2 step texturing are measured 28.7% and 25.5%, respectively. The reflectance of 2 step texturing sample is lower about 3.2% than 1 step textured sample.
In this paper we report how to design integrated-mirror etalons for surface-emitting lasers and photonic switching without time-consuming numerical calculation. It consists of the following two-step process (step 1) find the minimum reflectance to achieve the maximum allowable linewidth. (step 2) find the number of the quarter-wave layers in each mirror to realize the reflectance given by step 1. The condition for maximum transmission in an integrated- mirror etalon is also derived. Under this condition we can achieve the required linewidth with the minimum number of quarterwave layers.
In this study, adhesion of plasma spray coated hydroxyapatite film on the two-step anodized dental implant was investigated. The plasma spray was carried out on the dental implant after two step anodization. The adhesion of coated HA film was investigated by FE-SEM after fatigue test. In the case of two-step anodized implant showed a good adhesion between implant and coated film.
This paper focuses on the optimal step-over value for magnetic tool path. Since magnetic flux density is changed according to distance from center of magnetic tool. Enhanced surface roughness is also different according to change of radius. Therefore, to get a identical surface roughness on workpiece, it is necessary to find optimal tool path including step-over. In this study, response surface models for surface roughness according to change of radiuses were developed, and then optimal enhanced surface roughness for each radius was selected using genetic algorithm and simulated annealing to investigate relation between radius and surface roughness. As a result, it found that step-over value of 6.6mm is suitable for MAP of magnesium alloy.
In this paper, the method to modify a surface through three dimensional vector field technique is presented, In this method two guide surfaces are required as a shape reference. One is the shape of original surface, the other is the target shape for the result surface. Proposed method is consists of two steps. The first step is to calculate the mapping points on original and target guide surfaces so that the shape error may be minimized. The second step is to construct the smooth vector field from mapping points of the first step. The developed method is applied to shoe design system which makes the surface modeling very easy and effective.
