The indirect approach for measuring the bridge frequencies from the dynamic responses of a passing vehicle is a highly potential method. In this study, the effect of road surface roughness on such an approach is studied through finite element simulations. A two-dimensional mathematical model with the vehicle simulated as a moving sprung mass and the bridge as a simply-supported beam is adopted. The dynamic responses of the passing vehicle are solved by the finite element method along with the Newmark ${\beta}$ method. Through the numerical examples studied, it is shown that the presence of surface roughness may have negative consequence on the extraction of bridge frequencies from the test vehicle. However, such a shortcoming can be overcome either by introducing multiple moving vehicles on the bridge, besides the test vehicle, or by raising the moving speed of the accompanying vehicles.

In this paper, a double artificial neural network (ANN) approach and the efficient machining database building scheme are presented for the prediction of surface roughness in high-speed machining. In this approach, 4 machining parameters and used for the prediction of cutting force components, and the combinations of 4 parameters and the predicted cutting force components are finally used for the prediction of surface roughness. The experimental results comparing the these results with the predicted values using simple 4 input nodes have been also investigated to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

This paper presents a new approach to explicityly use surface normal images (SNIs) in 3-D object model description and recognition procedure. The surface normal images of an object are defined as the projected images obtained from view angles facing normal to each surface of the object. The proposed approach can significantly alleviate the difficulty of obtaining correspondence between models and scene objects by explicitly providing a transform for the matching. The proposed approach is applied to the construction of a model-based 3-D object recognition system for the selected five objects. Synthetic images are used in the experiment to show the operation of the overall recognition system.

A new approach based on implicit surface interpolation combined with domain decomposition is proposed for filling complex-shaped holes in a large polygon model, A surface was constructed by creating a smooth implicit surface from an incomplete polygon model through which the actual surface would pass. The implicit surface was defined by a radial basis function, which is a continuous scalar-value function over the domain $R^{3}$. The generated surface consisted of the set of all points at which this scalar function is zero. It was created by placing zero-valued constraints at the vertices of the polygon model. The well-known domain decomposition method was used to treat the large polygon model. The global domain of interest was divided into smaller domains in which the problem could be solved locally. The LU decomposition method was used to solve the set of small local problems; the local solutions were then combined using weighting coefficients to obtain a global solution. The validity of this new approach was demonstrated by using it to fill various holes in large and complex polygon models with arbitrary topologies.

In this paper, we propose an approach to apply network-based moving target defense into Internet of Things (IoT) networks. The IoT is a technology that provides the high interconnectivity of things like electronic devices. However, cyber security risks are expected to increase as the interconnectivity of such devices increases. One recent study demonstrated a man-in-the-middle attack in the statically configured IoT network. In recent years, a new approach to cyber security, called the moving target defense, has emerged as a potential solution to the challenge of static systems. The approach continuously changes system's attack surface to prevent attacks. After analyzing IPv4 / IPv6-based moving target defense schemes and IoT network-related technologies, we present our approach in terms of addressing systems, address mutation techniques, communication models, network configuration, and node mobility. In addition, we summarize the direction of future research in relation to the proposed approach.

This paper predicts the stall characteristics of three-dimensional wings. An iterative decambering approach is introduced into the nonplanar lifting surface method to take into consideration the stall characteristics of wings. An iterative decambering approach uses known airfoil lift curve and moment curve to predict the stall characteristics of wings. The multi-dimensional Newton iteration is used to take into consideration the coupling between the different sections of wings. Present results are compared with experiments and other numerical results. Computed results are in good agreement with other data. This scheme can be used for any wing with the twist or control surface and for wing-wing configurations such as wing-tail configuration or canard-wing configuration.
Fluids appear in innumerable phenomena; therefore, it is interesting to reproduce those phenomena by computer graphics techniques. However, this process is not trivial. We work with a fluid simulation that uses Navier-Stokes equations to model the fluid, a semi-Lagrangian approach to solve it and the level set method to track the surface of the fluid. Modified versions of the Navier-Stokes equations for computer graphics allow us to create a wide diversity of effects. In this paper, we propose a technique that allows us to integrate a force inspired by surface tension into the model. We describe which information we need and how to modify the model with this new approach. We end up with a modified simulation that has additional effects that might be suitable for computer graphics purposes. The effects that we are able to recreate are small waves and droplet-like formations close to the surface of the fluid. This model preserves the overall behavior governed by the Navier-Stokes equations.
Recently, feature-based solid modeling systems have been widely used in product design. However, for engineering analysis of a product model, an ed CAD model composed of mid-surfaces is desirable for conditions in which the ed model does not affect analysis result seriously. To meet this requirement, a variety of solid ion methods such as MAT (medial axis transformation) have been proposed to provide an ed CAE model from a solid design model. The algorithm of the MAT approach can be applied to any complicated solid model. However, additional work to trim and extend some parts of the result is required to obtain a practically useful CAE model because the inscribed sphere used in the MAT method generates insufficient surfaces with branches. On the other hand, the mid-surface ion approach supports a practical method for generating a two-dimensional ed model, even though it has difficulties in creating a mid-surface from some complicated parts. In this paper, we propose a dimension reduction approach on solid models based on the midsurface abstraction approach. This approach simplifies the solid model by abbreviating or removing trivial features first such as the fillet, mounting, or protrusion. The geometry of each face is replaced with mid-patches from the simplified model, and then unnecessary topological entities are deleted to generate a clean ed model. Also, additional work, such as extending and stitching mid-patches, completes the generation of a mid-surface model from the patches.

In this paper a new approach which combines implicit surface scheme and NURBS surface interpolation method is proposed in order to generate a complete surface model from unorganized point cloud data. In the method a base surface was generated by creating smooth implicit surface from the input point cloud data through which the actual surface would pass. The implicit surface was defined by a combination of shape functions including quadratic polynomial function, cubic polynomial functions and radial basis function using adaptive domain decomposition method. In this paper voxel data which can be extracted easily from the base implicit surface were used in order to generate rectangular net with good quality using the normal projection and smoothing scheme. After generating the interior points and tangential vectors in each rectangular region considering the required accuracy, the NURBS surface were constructed by interpolating the rectangular array of points using boundary tangential vectors which assure C$^1$ continuity between rectangular patches. The validity and effectiveness of this new approach was demonstrated by performing numerical experiments for the various types of point cloud data.

In this paper, the CL surface transformation approach that inversely deforms the 3-axis tool path generated on the deformed CL surface to a 5-axis tool path is introduced. The proposed CL surface transformation approach can be used if the orientation of the cutter is predefined. The CL surface based 3-axis tool path generation algorithms that have been improved well can be applied to the f-axis tool path generation.
