Surface water mapping has been widely used in various remote sensing applications. Water indices have been commonly used to distinguish water bodies from land; however, determining the optimal threshold and discriminating water bodies from similar objects such as shadows and snow is difficult. Deep learning algorithms have greatly advanced image segmentation and classification. In particular, FCN (Fully Convolutional Network) is state-of-the-art in per-pixel image segmentation and are used in most benchmarks such as PASCAL VOC2012 and Microsoft COCO (Common Objects in Context). However, these data sets are designed for daily scenarios and a few studies have conducted on applications of FCN using large scale remotely sensed data set. This paper aims to fine-tune the pre-trained FCN network using the CRMS (Coastwide Reference Monitoring System) data set for surface water mapping. The CRMS provides color infrared aerial photos and ground truth maps for the monitoring and restoration of wetlands in Louisiana, USA. To effectively learn the characteristics of surface water, we used pre-trained the DeepWaterMap network, which classifies water, land, snow, ice, clouds, and shadows using Landsat satellite images. Furthermore, the DeepWaterMap network was fine-tuned for the CRMS data set using two classes: water and land. The fine-tuned network finally classifies surface water without any additional learning process. The experimental results show that the proposed method enables high-quality surface mapping from CRMS data set and show the suitability of pre-trained FCN networks using remote sensing data for surface water mapping.

It is necessary to check the water quality of the lake on a continuous basis to determine the appearance of water pollution; however, it not only takes much time and expenses but it is considerably difficult to investigate the wide range of the area. If we use the remote sensing technique through the use of satellites, the status of water quality can be checked covering many wide areas simultaneously; and because the same area can be measured on a periodic basis, it is extremely effective in investigating the water quality. Furthermore, as some of the Landsat sensors carry characteristics which sense objects according to wave length, the distribution of water quality can be checked relatively accurately within a short period of time, while its image can be displayed in color. Hence, this research has attempted to extract water quality elements, such as transparency, water depth, and surface water temperature by utilizing the satellite data, and has prepared the water quality distribution image map of the Lake Hwajinpo by presenting the related empirical formula of the water quality elements. If the water quality distribution image map is prepared after extracting the water quality elements from the DN of the Landsat TM image and then carrying out TIN analysis through the use of GIS, relatively more accurate pattern can be learned covering a wide rage of area than the pattern presented based on the value obtained from actual observation.
In order to solve water quality problem of domestic dam reservoir, many projects have been performed in a point of view to restoration of water quality. This study was carried out to evaluate the effect of release from sediment on water quality and release characteristics. Daecheong dam reservoir was investigated for two years, from 1998 to 1999. The nutrient release rates of Daecheong reservoir is less than foreign eutrophic reservoir at anoxic condition. For the evaluation of the effect of nutrient release on water quality, internal and external loading was calculated at Daecheong reservoir. As total phosphorus loading from sediment is calculated 9.3 ton/yr and inflow loading from Daecheong reservoir watershed 118 ton/yr, internal loading shows the portion of 7.88% to external loading. At this study, because sampling point was choosed at the point where much sediment is accumulated, experimental result is more than average release rates. Because Daecheong reservoir shows complete thermal stratification and anoxic condition below 30m from water surface in summer seasons, released phosphorus from sediment can not transfer to epilimnion and eventually resettles. Therefore sediment has insignificant impacts on water quality on Daecheong dam reservoir.

The performance of high-strength concrete is controlled by the fact, affecting the quality management, especially by revision error in water content of the ratio of surface moisture in fine aggregate. The difference in water content results from the revision error of the ratio of surface moisture and errors in sampled aggregate in the processing ready-mixed concrete plant. This study is to investigate the properties of flowing and hardening by investionally varying the revision error of the ratio of surface moisture in fine aggregate to compare and analyze the variance in quality.

Two application rates (9 and 18 t/ha) of poultry litter and a recommended rate of commercial fertilizer were studied to determine their effects on nutrient (N and P) losses in surface and subsurface runoff and loadings in soil layers from conventionally-tilled com by the treatments. The model predicted higher sediment losses than observed data from all treatments. The overpredicted sediment losses resulted in overprediction of organic-N and sediment-P losses in surface runoff. Simulated soluble-P losses in surface runoff were close to observed data, while NO3-N losses in surface runoff were underpredicted from all treatments. Observed NO3-N concentrations in leachate at 1.0-m depth from commercial fertilizer treatment were fairly well predicted. But the concentratins were overpredicted from poultry litter treatments due to high simulation of organic-N mineralization simulated by the model.
Water quality model applicable paddy field was developed using field experiment during 1999 ${\sim}$ 2002. This model involves inputs from fertilization and sediment release as dirac delta function and continuous source function, respectively, and can simulate various processes such as ponded depth, surface drainage, total nitrogen concentration and total phosphorus concentration in a daily basis. The model was calibrated using data collected from field experiments which was irrigated with ground water and validated from field experiments which was irrigated with surface water. The nutrient concentration of surface water depended on the fertilization and dirac delta function can efficiently explain the valiance of nutrient concentration of surface water by fertilizer. As a result of calibration and validation, this model demonstrates good agreement. The model fit efficiencies ($R^2$) of ponded depth, surface concentration of TN and TP were 0.93,0.98 and 0.95, respectively for calibration, and those of TN and TP were 0.99 and 0.70, respectively for validation. We can apply lake and reservoir model to analysis paddy field considered with shallow ponded system, but it will need so many parameters and have much uncertainty. Fortunately, paddy field have a series of cultural practices yearly basis, such as irrigation-fertilization-forced drain-harvest with a similar time , so simple model may explain the mechanism for paddy field. Water quality model for paddy field developed in this study is simply, needs little parameters, but appeared high applicability to evaluate paddy filed drainage. We recommend this model to estimate nutrient loading from paddy field and establish best management practice.

Modeling non-point pollution across multiple scales has become an important environmental issue. As a more representative and practical approach in quantifying and qualifying surface water, a modular neural network (MNN) was implemented in this study. Two different site-scales ($1.5\;{\times}\;10^5$ and $1.62\;{\times}\;10^6\;m^2$) with the same plants, soils, and paddy field management practices, were selected. Hydrologic data (rainfall, irrigation and surface discharge) and water quality data (time-series nutrient loadings) were continuously monitored and then used for the verification of MNN performance. Correlation coefficients (R) for the results predicted from the networks versus measured values were within the range of 0.41 to 0.95. The small block could be extrapolated to the large field for the rainfall-surface drainage process. Nutrient prediction produced less favorable results due to the complex phenomena of nutrients in the drainage water. However, the feasibility of using MNN to generate improved prediction accuracy was demonstrated if more hydrologic and environmental data are provided. The study findings confirmed the estimation accuracy of the upscaling from a small-segment block to large-scale paddy field, thereby contributing to the establishment of water quality management for sustainable agriculture.
The Saemangeum watershed is required to manage water pollution effectively but the effect of liquid manure (LM) on soil and water quality in the basin is not clearly identified as yet. This study aims at assessing the effect on soil of a rice field and water quality of water bodies near the rice field during rice-crop time period to find out the effect of LM, the effect of rainfall, and the effect of rice-crop environment on soil and water quality by analyzing data of nitrogen components. As a result of the LM distribution, $NO_3-N$ was much higher than other N components in the entire soil layers and it was accelerated by rainfall right after the LM distribution. Compared to chemical fertilizer (CF), LM was slightly affected but still influenced on the surface water quality. During weak rainfall, low nitrogen concentration in topsoil was resulted as NH3-N decreased and Org-N and $NO_3-N$ increased. $NO_3-N$ concentration in the water of irrigation canals increased with time. During intensive rainfall, $NO_3-N$ and Org-N of the soil were measured highly in the submerged condition, while the water quality of the rice field was lower due to flooding into the irrigation canal as well as the growth of the rice plants. Also, total nitrogen was increased more than 7 times and it showed serious water quality deterioration due to LM and excessive fertilizer distribution, and rainfall during all rice-crop processes. The effect of LM on water quality should be studied consistently to provide critical data while considering weather condition, cropping conditions, soil characteristics, and so on.

Purpose: In this study, the effect of milling on paddy rice stored at low temperature, the changes in grain temperature of bulk storage bags exposed at room temperature, the post-milling water content of paddy rice, the whiteness of rice, and the rate of pest incidence were investigated and data were analyzed. Methods: Changes in temperature inside the bulk storage bags kept at low temperature and grain temperature after exposure to room temperature were measured. Experiments were conducted for identifying the reasons of post-milling quality changes in paddy rice stored at low temperature. Results: It was determined that a short-term increase of water content in paddy rice was directly related to surface condensation, and that rice should be milled at least 72 h after removal from low-temperature storage, in order to completely eliminate surface condensation of paddy rice kept in bulk storage bags. It was observed that post-milling quality of rice changed, but water content was maintained at high levels for more than 18 d in rice that was milled when condensation occurred, regardless of paper or vinyl packaging. Rice whiteness rapidly decreased in rice that was milled when condensation occurred, regardless of packaging, while rice that was milled 72 h or more after removal from low temperature storage did not show any significant changes in whiteness. No pest incidence was observed up to 12 d after removal from low temperature storage, regardless of packaging. Starting at 18 d, after removal from low temperature storage, rice that was milled when condensation occurred, was affected by pests, while 24 d after removal from low temperature storage, all portions of rice were affected by pests. Conclusions: Our results suggest that changes in post-milling quality of rice could be significantly reduced by exposing paddy rice to room temperature for at least 72 h before milling, in order to allow the increase of grain temperature and prevent surface condensation.

Recently, improvement of the quality of urban riverscape environment has been emphasized not only by landscape architectural field but also by various professionals in planning and ecology. Regarding to this current movement, the aim of this paper is to highlight major visual elements of riverscape axis as a case study of Shinchon River in Taegu City to suggest some basic guidelines for arranging riverscape in urban area. The study was mainly based on Repertory Grid Development method which was developed in Japan. The method is consist of three steps such as decision of element landscape in study area for slide photos, selection of evaluation items for interview and obstraction of proper evaluation factors. The major findings through this study are as follows; 1) The 12 major visual elements which possibly improve riverscape, based on abstraction of proper evaluation factors, are Dunchi, surface of the water,, equipment of river, buildings near riverside, river vertical and horizontal facilities like bridge, fine view, riverbed, water plant, naturalness, water's edge line, harmony and street trees by order. 2) Total numbers of adjective which describe 12 common factors are 25, such as clean, open, stable, quiet, comfortable, friendly, bright, natural etc. In addition, Dunchi was described 337 times by various adjectives, surface of the water was 200 times and arrangement of river was 146 times which is similar result with the order of 12 influential common factors. 3) Therefore, Dunchi, surface of the water and equipment of river are three most important factors which could create better riverscape. These three factors implies us how we supply good quality of urban river environment for the urban residents.
