Direct thermal lamination of polyethylene film on aluminum plate without using adhesive was tried by modifying their surfaces to have polar groups. Polyethylene film was modified by treating with oxygen or acrylic acid plasma. Aluminum plate was modified by treating with boiling water or diaminocyclohexane plasma. Fairly high adhesion strength was obtained even in the case when only the polyethylene film was modified, and adhesion strength was so high that film was broken during the adhesion test if both the film and the aluminum plate were modified. Even chemical bonding seemed to be possible when the film treated with acrylic acid was laminated on the plate treated with diaminocyclohexane plasma by forming amide linkage through the reaction between COOH groups on the film surface and NH$_2$ groups on the plate surface.

In chemical plating of nickel and chromium on steel, studies on various factors affect-ing the plating operations were carried out. The optimum bath compositions and operat-ing conditions were obtained. The structure and properties of the as deposits or deposits after heat treatment were investigated. (1) The most optimum conditions for the chemical nickel and chromium plating were; 〔Ni2+〕/〔H2PO2-〕; 0.5∼0.8, 〔Cr3+〕/〔H2PO2-〕; 0.6∼0.9 PH;5.0∼5.5, temperature; 90∼95$^{\circ}C$ (2) In the case of nickel deposition, the hardness of deposits increased with increasing phosphorous contents. Heat-treating at the temperature range 200$^{\circ}C$ to 600$^{\circ}C$, the maximum hardness of deposits was obtained at 400$^{\circ}C$ and decreased at temperature above 400$^{\circ}C$ due to growth of Ni3P. (3) Corrosion resistance of chemical nickel deposits was improved with increasing of p-hosphorous contents and heat treating temperature.
Scanning electron microscopy studies were conducted to examine the surface treatment effects of treating agents the proposed in the previous studies on various vulcanizates. Fracture surfaces of the vulcanizates compounded with kaolin treated with sodium polyphosphate of poly(maleic anhydride) presented favorable results as expected from the results of the previous studies. In other words, treating agents such as sodium polyphosphate and poly(maleic anhydride) show considerable reinforcing effects on the vulcanizates.
This study examined the surface modification characteristics of NBR using sealing in automobile. Surfaces of NBR were modified by RF power Ar plasma treatment. In experiment, pressure, flux, temperature were fixed and RF bias voltage. Treatment time was changed. In friction test, we used PTFE grease. After modification, surfaces of NBR showed many grooves, hydrophilic functional groups, and lipophilic functional groups. As increasing treating voltage and time, the amount of them was increased. And wetting angle and friction coefficient was decreased with increasing treating voltage and time. However, the pattern of changing friction coefficient was not fixed.
Wool fabrics were pre-treated with corona prior to treating with enzyme for shrinkage resistance. Commercial protease and cellulase were used for degradation of wool and the treatment conditions such as enzyme amount, treating time, and assistant chemicals. Friction coefficient and zeta-potential were measured to certificate an effect of treatment condition on the handle of wool fabric. Corona pretreatment make the wool fabric soft, which result in the decrease of friction coefficient and zeta-potential. Scale removal of wool surface was observed by scanning electron microscope. Amino acid analysis shows the effectiveness of enzyme, and corona pretreatment does not cause severe internal damage.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of sinc phosphate cement on the enamel surface of extracted teeth. The tooth was placed in a test tube, which was subjected to 5ml of 0.2M acetate buffer at pH 4 by 'window technique.' The calcium content of the acetate buffer was determined by the Perkin-Elmer Model 303 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer. The obtained results were summarized in the following. 1. The solubility of enamel is $0.92mg/cm^2$. ml in control group. 2. The solubility of enamel is increased by treating these with zinc phosphate cements. 3. The solubility of enamel is $0.69mg/cm^2$. ml by treating with Lee Smith cement. 4. The solubility of enamel is $0.30mg/cm^2$. ml by treating with G-C's cement.
Statement of problem: The failure of adhesion between the resilient denture liner and the denture base is a serious problem in clinic. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of denture base resin surface pretreatments (mechanical and/or chemical) on the tensile bond strength between a resilient liner and processed denture resin. Material and method. Acrylic-based resilient liners (Soft liner; GC co., Japan & Coe-Soft; GC America Inc. USA) and silicone-based resilient liners (Mucosoft, Parkell Inc., USA & Dentusil; Bosworth co., USA) were used. Specimens in each soft lining material were divided two groups with or without mechanical pretreatment. Each denture base specimen received 1 of 4 chemical pretreatments including: (1) no treatment, (2) 30-s acetone treatment, (3) 15-s methylene chloride treatment, (4) 180-s methyl methacrylate treatment. All specimens were thermocycled and placed under tension until failure in a universal testing machine. Results: 1. Silicone-based resilient liners exhibited significantly higher tensile bond strengths than acrylic-based resilient liners (P<.05). 2. Grinding the denture base resin improved tensile bond strengths of silicone-based resilient liners, but reduced tensile bond strengths of acrylic-based resilient liners (P<.05). 3. In acrylic-based resilient liners, treating with acetone significantly increased the bond strength of Soft liner and treating with methyl methacrylate significantly increased the bond strength of Coe-Soft (P<.05). However they were not effective compared to silicone-based resilient liner. 4. In silicone-based resilient liners, treating with all chemical etchants significantly increased the bond strength of Mucosoft to denture base, and treating with methylene chloride and methyl methacrylate increased the bond strength of Dentusil to denture base (P<.05). Conclusion: Although chemical and mechanical pretreatments were not effective on tensile bond strength of acrylic-based resilent liner to denture base, treating the denture base resin surface with appropriate chemical etchants after mechanical pretreatment significantly increased the tensile bond strength of silicone-based resilient liner to denture base.
This study was attempted to propose a method evaluating fixation of active ingredients in Copper-Chromium-Arsenic preservatives treatment. Fixated amount of active ingredients on wood was obtained by measuring the density of surface electric charge based on $\varsigma$ potential. Data accumulated from density of surface electric charge showed that the fixated amount of preservatives on wood increased linearly as concentration of treating solution increaced, which indicatied quantitative reactions in fixation of preservatives.
The purpose of this study was to examine how can we keep the freshness of peeled chestnuts in distribution process. The 30 minutes impregnation treatment at the preservation solution of 0.3% consistency showed a good result. The solution treatment prevented from surface yellowing and quality degradation of peeled chestnuts. And, in vaccum packaging after treating chemicals surface drying was faster than the other packaging from 7th day. A vitamin C treatment was no effective to restrain the growth of microbials.

In this study, we examined the effect of cathode from electrolysis reactor for treating ballast water. We are going to select a suitable cathode for seawater electrolysis after considering the effect on the generation of the oxidant of cathode and the electrode deposition materials adhering to the surface of cathode. Anode is Ru-Ti-Pd electrode and cathode are Ti, Pt, JP520 (Ni-Pt-Ce) electrodes. Using the cathode of the three types, experiments were conducted to examine the effects of TRO (total residual oxidants) generation concentration and RNO (N, N-Dimethyl-4-nitrosoaniline, indicator of the generation of OH radical) degradation concentration (in 1, 35 psu), ohmic drop, FESEM(field emission scanning electron microscope) observation of cathode surface and EDX (energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy) measurements of attached fouling material. The results showed that TRO generation concentration and RNO degradation concentration in according to each type of cathode are not different. The attached fouling materials were observed on the surface of Ti and the JP520 electrode by the observation of SEM after electrolysis for two hours, but it was not observed on the surface of Pt electrode. When considering the surface ohmic drop of cathode and the attached fouling materials, Pt electrode was judged as the excellent cathode.
