  • Dimensional accuracy and surface quality are very important in rapid prototyping especially when the models are used for the production of tools. This paper presents the development of benchmarking part to investigate dimensional accuracy and surface finish. A new test part is designed to perform benchmarking of major rapid prototyping processes such as selective laser sintering, laminated object manufacturing, stereolithography apparatus, and fused deposition modeling. The test part design includes basic manufacturing features such as holes, walls, squares, cylinder and etc. In addition, the small features are included in order to evaluate the fine details that can be manufactured by a specific RP process. The CMM program that automatically measures different features in the test part is also developed. The evaluation of accuracy as well as surface roughness are discussed for major rapid prototyping processes.

  • In this study, in-situ performance test of a wet surface finned-tube evaporator of an air source heat pump which has a rating capacity of 20 RT is carried out. Since test conditions, such as indoor and outdoor air conditions cannot be controlled to satisfy the standard test conditions, experiments are done with the inlet air conditions as they exist. From the experimental data, air side heat and mass transfer coefficients were calculated by the well known heat and mass transfer analogy and tube-by-tube method. Since current procedure underpredicted the experimental sensible heat factor (SHF), a proper empirical parameter was introduced to predict the experimental data with satisfactory results. This study provides the method of evaluating the heat and mass transfer coefficients of a wet surface finned-tube evaporator of which in-situ performance test is necessary.

  • The flaws detected by the non-destructive surface test methods shall be sized by means of the volumetric test such as an UT(ultrasonic test) or an ECT(eddy current test) for the purpose of analyzing and repairing them. It is generally known that the ECT is a comparatively effective technique for the small size cracks which are located shallowly from the surface. On this study, the ECT technique was tried to size the depth of the crack-like EDM notches, and it is identified that the ECT is an appropriate depth sizing technique for the shallow cracks less than 3mm in the Martensitic CA6NM material.

  • The floor slip test method using O-Y·PSM was developed based on the risk assessment and sense of slip by the users implementing actions such as changing walking direction on a floor. This test method is regulated under the Korea Industrial Standard KS M 3510, and in the Korea Industrial Standard KS F 3230, the article of KS M 3510 is cited. Yet, in the standard, the surface condition of test or slip adjustment method is merely mentioned or difficult to be found, and thus it creates confusion in floor slip test using O-Y·PSM. Therefore, this study is to provide the useful data to revise the relative standard through the standardization study including various surface conditions of sample and slip adjustment method used in floor slip test method using O-Y·PSM.

  • This study was to investigate the balancing and clinical abilities using stable and unstable surface of stroke patients who surface changes in balance of body. The subjects of this study were 30 stroke patients(16 males and 14 females). They were separated into two groups and did balance reinforcing exercise on stable and unstable surfaces for five times a week for six weeks. To evaluate their balancing ability, they performed functional standing balance test, functional forward arm stretching test. performance-oriented mobility assessment was performed. The balancing exercises were modified from preceding studies and consisted of 6 difference exercises. The functional standing test with open and close eyes and performance-oriented mobility assessment, the unstable surface exercise group and the stable surface exercise group improved significantly. The forward arm stretching test was the unstable surface exercise group improved. This study found that the balancing exercise on unstable surface was more effective than on stable surface for stroke patients. Thus, exercise on unstable surface has more positive effects on the improvement of balancing abilities of stroke patients.

  • Purpose : The purpose of this study was to demonstrate the effects of lumbar stabilization exercise on static and dynamic balance performance with unstable supporting surface and an even surface. Methods : The subjects of this experimental study were 30 patients among hospitalized stroke patients. They were randomly divided into two groups: unstable supporting surface group(USS; n=15) and an even surface group(ES; n=15). The lumbar stabilization exercise program for patients in two groups went through 40 minute exercise sessions three times a week for 8 weeks. To analyze the effects of a variety of supporting surface, Functional reaching test(FRT), Berg's balance scale(BBS), and Overall stability index(static balance) were measured before and after the exercise. The paired t-test was used to compare mean differences between before and after exercis and the independent t-test was used to compare mean differences between groups. Results : After 8 weeks exercise program, there were significant differences between before and after exercise in FRT, BBS, and static balance. But there were not significant differences in balance between two groups. Conclusion : This study suggest that lumbar stabilization exercise on unstable supporting surface and an even surface can improve FRT, BBS, and a static balance.

  • FRP rebar has low bond performance than steel rebar. Usually, FRP rebar has about 60% of bond strength of steel rebar. Without adequate bond to concrete, the full composite action between reinforcement and concrete matrix can not be achieved. Therefore, FRP rebars must also have surface deformations that provide good bond to concrete. The purpose of this research was decided an optimum surface deformation patterns through bond test of FRP rebar. Eighteen surface deformation patterns of FRP rebar with widely different geometries were investigated. Based on the test results, we established optimum surfale deformation pattern. Bond tests were performed for three types of surface deformation patterns of FRP rebar including sand coated rebar, ribbed rebar, and wrapped and sand coated rebar that commercially available, and two types of FRP rebar including CFRP, GFRP rebars that optimum surface deformation pattern is applied. According to bond test results, FRP rebars that optimum surface deformation pattern is applied were found to have better bond strength with concrete than currently using FRP rebar.

  • The efficiencies of thermal power system using fossil fuel depend on heat exchangers which extract energy from the exhaust gas before it is expelled to the atmosphere. To increase heat transfer efficiency it is very important to maintain the surface of heat exchanger as clean condition. The accepted skill of cleaning of fouled surface of heat exchanger is soot blowing. A high pressure jet of air is forced through the flat surface of plate to remove the deposit of fouling. There is, however, little knowledge of the fundamental principles of how the jet behave on the surface and how the jet actually removes the deposit. Therefore, the study focuses on the measuring of cleaning area and cleaning dwell time after accumulating the simulated deposit on the flat surface. The deposit test rig was built for the study and simulated deposit material is used after measuring the physical property of the each material by shearing stress test. Much data was obtained for the analysis by the parameters change such as the different jet speed, different inner pressure and variable distance of the jet from the test rig surface. The experimental data was compared with the theoretical equation and most of the data matches well except some extreme cases.

  • In this paper, we estimated the straight line stability by performing a 3 degree of freedom spiral test simulation of a intact/damaged surface combatant using the hydrodynamic coefficient obtained through the PMM(Planar motion mechanism) test based on system engineering process. A model ship was ONR Tumblehome and damaged compartment was set on the starboard bow. As a result of conducting a spiral test simulation based on the experimental results of J.Ha (2018), the asymmetric straight line stability due to the damaged compartment was confirmed. In the case of a ship in which the starboard bow was damaged, it was confirmed that it had the characteristic to deflect to the left when going straight. Also, when estimating the straight line stability of a both port and starboard asymmetric surface combatant, a separated equation of motion model that sees the port and starboard as different ships seems suitable.
