Difference in Muscle Activities According to Stability on Support Surface During Plank Exercise

  • PURPOSE: The present study aimed to measure muscle activities in the pectoralis major, the erector spinae, and the quadriceps femoris according to support surface states of arms and legs during plank exercise. METHODS: The subjects of this study were 21 healthy males in their 20s and their muscle activities at three states were measured as follows: The first state was where the support surface of arms and legs was stable. The second state was where only arms were unstable, and the third state was where only legs were unstable. Electromyography (EMG) was used to measure muscle activities. Pectoralis major, quadriceps femoris, and elector spinae were measured for muscle activities. RESULTS: The muscle activities in the pectoralis major were statistically high when arms were unstable. The muscle activities in the quadriceps femoris were statistically high when legs were unstable. The muscle activities in the erector spinae were higher when arms and legs were unstable compared to that at the stable support surface. No significant difference was revealed statistically when arms and legs were unstable. CONCLUSION: If the instability of arms and legs is employed during plank exercise, exercise on the upper and lower bodies or the erector spinae is expected to be more effective.

  • Recently, with the development of bio-technology the interests in the micro-fluidic devices for analysis in the fields of biology and medical science have been steadily increasing. Although polymer is considered as one of the best materials for micro-fluidic devices. glass or silicon molds fabricated by photo-lithographic technique have been commonly used. However, it is generally perceived that the conventional photolithographic technique has the limitation for fabricating micro-channels for micro-fluidic devices. In this work, the possibility of fabrication of micro-fluidic channels on PDMS by using the mechano-chemical process and the effect of surface states on the fluid flow were investigated. Experimental results revealed that PDMS mold fabricated by the mechano-chemical process could be used effectively to replicate micro-fluidic channels with high reproducibility and dimensional accuracy. It was also found that the fluid flow generation and flow speed were largely affected by the hydrophilicity and the surface roughness of the micro-channel surfaces.

  • $SrBi_2Ta_2O_9$ thin films were etched in $Cl_2/CF_4/Ar$ inductively coupled plasma (ICP). The maximum etch rate was 1300 ${\AA}/min$ at 900 W ICP power in Cl$_2$(20%)/$CF_4$(20%)/Ar(60%). As RF source power increased, radicals (F, Cl) and ion ($Ar^+$) increased. The influence of plasma induced damage during etching process was investigated in terms of P-E hysteresis loops, chemical states on the surface, surface morphology and phase of X-ray diffraction. The chemical states on the etched surface were investigated with X-ray spectroscopy and secondary ion mass spectrometry. After annealing $700^{\circ}C$ for 1 h in $O_2$ atmosphere, the decreased P-E hysteresises of the etched SBT thin films in Ar and $Cl_2/CF_4/Ar$ plasma were recovered.

  • 넓은 지역의 지표면 수문은 추계학적 변동에 의해 야기되는 안정된 상태간의 천이와 함께 몇 개의 선호되는 안정된 상태의 영향을 받기가 쉬운데 그 이유는 지표면과 대기 상호관계의 밀접한 조합과도 관계가 있다. 흥미있고 중요한 과제가 각 안정상태에서의 체류기간 즉 가뭄기나 홍수기의 지속기간이라 할 수 있는데 안정상태의 평균 천이시간이 다른 모델 변수나 기후 형태에 대하여 분석하였다. 본 연구에서 보여준 기후 상황에 대해 미분 방정식의 해는 함수비 상태가 두 개의 최빈수를 갖는 확률 분포를 보여 주고 있다. 모델 변수와 관련하여 불확실성 분석을 Monte-Carlo 모의 방법을 사용하여 수행하였다. 본 연구에서 수행된 방법은 넓은 지역에 대한 토양 수분이나 강우 특히 매우 다양한 지속 시간을 보이는 토양 수분이나 강우에 있어서의 급격한 변화와 관련된 중요한 특성을 보여준다고 하겠다.

  • 본 연구에서는 Co/CeO2 촉매 제조 시 코발트의 첨가 함량 및 세리아의 소성온도에 따른 물리·화학적 특성 및 일산화질소 산화 성능을 비교하였다. Co/CeO2 촉매의 구조적 특성은 XRD, BET 분석을 통하여 확인하였으며, 코발트 표면밀도에 따른 표면 결정 상태를 제안하였다. 또한, Raman, XPS 분석을 통하여 촉매의 산화가 및 산소 결합 상태를 확인하였으며, 일산화질소 산화 성능과의 관계를 제안하였다. H2-TPR 분석을 통하여 촉매의 특성 변화에 따른 산소전달특성을 확인하였으며, 일산화질소 산화를 위한 촉매의 활성점(Co3+)을 제안하였다.

  • $Bi_2Te_3$ has long been studied for its excellent thermoelectric characteristics. Recently, this material has been known as a topological insulator (TI). The surface states within the bulk band gap of a TI, which are protected by the time reversal symmetry, contribute to the conduction at the surface, while the bulk is in insulating state. In contrast to the bulk defects tuning the chemical potential to the Dirac energy, the native defects near the surface are expected not to change the shape of the Fermi surface and the related spin structure. Using scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), we have systematically characterized surface or near surface defects in p- and n- doped $Bi_2Te_3$, and identified their structure by first principles calculations. In addition, bias-polarity dependences of STM images revealed the electron donor/acceptor nature of each defect. A detailed theoretical study of the surface states near the Dirac energy reveals the robustness of the Dirac point, which verifies the effectiveness of the disturbance on the backscattering from various kinds of defects.

Effect of Surface Charge in Hydrophobicity of Insulating Material and Decay of Surface Voltage after Corona Charging

  • This paper presented the effects of accumulation of surface charges on hydrophobicity level and the surface states of silicone polymer used for outdoor insulator treated by ultraviolet irradiation and corona discharge through measuring surface voltage decay of a corona-charged specimen were investigated. The surface resistivity by the method of the surface potential decay was compared with the value by the three electrodes methods. From this study, it was found that the accumulation of surface charges above a critical surface voltage on silicone insulating materials could lead to the temporary loss of surface hydrophobicity. In addtion, uv stress lead to a longer decay time of surface charges. We could conclude that the effects of surface charges on hydrophocity level and the changes of surface state by various artificial treatments were understood through a trend of surface potential decay.

  • Global and local memory functions, defined by Quack and Troe, were calculated for the rotationally inelastic collision of O + SO(v, j)→ [O--S--O]→O + SO(v, j'). It is seen to decrease steadily as total energy increases. Distribution of scattering cross section over product rotational states also shows the decreasing memory of initial state as total energy is increased. These results are interpreted in terms of energy scrambling at high energy due to the availability of more phase space and also the influence of strong dynamical constraints.
