  • To construct the extrusion die surface, a B-Spline surface scheme based on the cubic B-Spline curve interpolation method is proposed in the present work. The inlet and outlet profiles are described with B-Spline curves by using the centripetal method for uniform parameterization. The interior control points of surface are generated using the derivative characteristics of B-Spline curve. A complete B-Spline surface is constructed by using appropriate coordinate transformation and knot deletion. In the present study, a quantitative measure for the control of surface is suggested by introducing the tangential vector and inclination angles at the inlet and outlet sections. To verify the validity of the proposed method, automatic surface generation is carried out for the various types of extrusion die surface.

  • Vortices terminating at free surface have been investigated extensively. Most of investigations, however, are focused on surface parallel vortices and little has been known about surface normal vortex or columnar vortex. Visualized experimental results utilizing LIF technique are discussed for the purpose of characterization of columnar vortex interacting with a clean and a contaminated free surfaces in the present investigation. The results reveal that surface tension changes due to surface contamination although bulk viscosity remains constant and eventually the behavior of a columnar vortex interacting with a contaminated free surface is totally different from the clean free surface case.

  • Measurement of average of heat transfer and friction coefficients were obtained with air flowing through electrically heated ducts having square, rectangular(aspect ration, 5), and triangular cross section for range of surface temperature from $540^{\circ}$to $1780^{\circ}$ R and Reynolds number from 1000 to 330,000. The results indicates that the effect of heat flux on correlations of the average heat transfer and friction coefficients is similar to that obtained for circular tubes in previous investigation and was nearly eliminated by evaluating the physical properties and density of the air a film temperature halfway between the average surface and fluid bulk temperatures, With the Nusselt and Reynolds numbers on the hydraulic diameter of the ducts, the data for the noncircular ducts could be represented by the same equations obtained in the previous investigation for circular tubes. Correlation of the average difference between the surface corner and midwall temperatures for the square duct was in agreement with predicted values from a previous analysis. However, for the rectangular and triangular ducts, the measured corner temperature was greater by approximately 20 and 35 percent, respectively, than the values predicted by analysis.

  • Technical investigation to figure out the problems arising during in-situ heating electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD) analysis inside scanning electron microscopy (SEM) was carried out. EBSD patterns were successfully acquired up to $830^{\circ}C$ without degradation of EBSD pattern quality in steels. Several technical problems such as image drift and surface microstructure pinning were taking place during in-situ experiments. Image drift problem was successfully prevented in constant current supplying mode. It was revealed that the surface pinning problem was resulted from the $TiO_2$ oxide particle formation during heating inside SEM chamber. Surface pinning phenomenon was fairly reduced by additional platinum and carbon multi-layer coating before in-situ heating experiment, furthermore was perfectly prevented by improvement of vacuum level of SEM chamber via leakage control. Plane view in-situ observation provides better understanding on the overall feature of recrystallization phenomena and cross sectional in-situ observation provides clearer understanding on the recrystallization mechanism.

  • In this study, the risk on the contamination of the bracket insulators were investigated and surface discharge process leading to the fire is verified. If the insulator surface is coated by the grease, dust and contaminants likely to be attached. Leakage current to flow easily. In these results, the improvement of three methods have been proposed for the apply to the field. It is very important to ensure the safety for the service of electrical safety. For the public service, it's important to safety of railroad. Through this study, it is expected to be safer.

  • During the conservation and maintenance of the birthplace center yard of President Asan Yoon Bosun, four porcelain enamel dishware were excavated from the central yard well. The glaze layer of excavated enamel was severely damaged; hence, the conservation process was done rapidly. In addition, scientific investigation and analysis were conducted to confirm the material properties of the glaze layer. It was confirmed that the outer surface was inverted and dried, while the inner surface was upright and fired during the glazing and drying process by measuring the film thickness. By examining the breakup phenomenon, the breaking up of the white enamel on the colored enamel was confirmed. This indicates that the colored glaze rose to the surface depending on the density of the colored glaze and white glaze. The investigation of the cross-section of the film confirmed that the lower layer formed according to the bonding properties with metal during the glazing process. Analysis of the constituents of the identified lower layer confirmed that there are differences between the specific components of the metal oxide of the lower layer and the surface color development of the upper layer.
