Positioning accuracy by the Global Positioning System (GPS) is of great concern in a variety of research tasks. It is limited due to error sources such as ionospheric effect, orbital uncertainty, antenna phase center variation, signal multipath, and tropospheric influence. In this study, the tropospheric influence, primarily due to water vapour inhomogeneity, on GPS positioning height is investigated. The data collected by the GPS receivers along with co-located surface meteorological instruments in 2003 are utilized. The GPS receivers are established as continuously operating reference stations by the Ministry of the Interior (MOI), Central Weather Bureau (CWB), and Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) of Taiwan, and International GNSS Service (IGS). The total number of GPS receivers is 21. The surface meteorological measurements include temperature, pressure, and humidity. They are introduced to GPS data processing with 24 troposphere parameters for the station heights, which are compared with those obtained without a priori knowledge of surface meteorological measurements. The results suggest that surface meteorological measurements have an expected impact on the GPS height. The daily correction maximum with the meteorological effect may be as large as 9.3 mm for the cases of concern.
The slip effect from the molecular interaction between fluid particles and solid surface atoms plays a key role in microscale fluid transport and heat transfer since the relative importance of surface forces increases as the size of the system decreases to the microscale. There exist two models to describe the slip effect: the Maxwell slip model in which the slip correction is made on the basis of the degree of shear stress near the wall surface and the Langmuir slip model based on a theory of adsorption of gases on solids. In this study, as the first step towards developing a general purpose numerical code of the compressible Navier-Stokes equations for computational simulations of microscale fluid flow and heat transfer, two slip models are implemented into a finite element numerical code of a simplified equation. In addition, a pressure-driven gas flow in a microchannel is investigated by the numerical code in order to validate numerical results.
The elliptic relaxation model(ERM) with the inhomogeneous correction intermediate between near wall with and far from the wall. The source of the ERM usually was appled quasi-homogeneous pressure-strain correlation in homogeneous situations. This formulation was easily applied to the linear model or non-linear pressure-strain model. It is observed that the boundary conditions of the relaxation operator dominate the homogeneous pressure-strain model in the near wall region. While looking at high-Reynolds number flows, it was found necessary to modify the effect of the relaxation operator throughout the log region by accounting for gradients of the flatness variable and turbulent length scales. These effects are kinematic blocking of the wall normal velocity fluctuation and pressure reflections from the surface. This model is wall distances and unit vectors which make the model applicable to flows boundary by a complex geometry. Inhomogeneous correction model is computed inertial and non-inertial channel flow These are compared DNS(Kim et at., Kristofffrsen & Andersson) for channel flow. The present model could be predicted well for rotating flows.

To examine the changes in pain, the severity of the neck disorder, craniovertebral angle, and muscle activity in young adults with forward head posture. 37 "N" University students in their 20s with forward head posture, including both male and female participants. Measurement of pain, NDI (neck disorder index) craniovertebral angle, and muscle activity were taken before and after the 6 week intervention period. The pain was measured using the visual analog scale. The severity of the neck disorder was measured using the NDI The craniovertebral angle was measured by taking a photo. The muscle activity was measured using surface electromyography. Neck posture correction exercises paired with proprioceptive training is the most effective intervention for reducing pain. Both neck posture correction exercises paired with Kinesio taping or proprioceptive training are effective interventions for addressing neck disability, craniocervical angle, and muscle activity. Neck posture correction exercises paired with Kinesio taping or proprioceptive training are more effective at addressing pain, neck disorder, craniocervical angle, and muscle activity than performing the neck posture correction exercises alone.
The sea surface wind speed (SSWS) derived by microwave radiometer can be contaminated by change of microwave brightness temperature owing to the angle between the sensor azimuth and the wind direction (Relative Wind Direction). We attempt to correct the contamination to the SSWS derived by Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer (AMSR) on Advanced Earth Observing Satellite II (ADEOS-II), by applying the method proposed by Konda and Shibata (2004). The improvement of accuracy of the SSWS estimation amounts to roughly 60% of the error caused by the RWD effect.
The theories having been developed thus far account for higher-order variation of transverse shear strain through the depth of the beam and satisfy the stress-free boundary conditions on the top and bottom surfaces of the beam. A shear correction factor, therefore, is not required. In this paper, the effect of surface on the axial buckling and free vibration of nanobeams is studied using various refined higher-order shear deformation beam theories. Furthermore, these theories have strong similarities with Euler-Bernoulli beam theory in aspects such as equations of motion, boundary conditions, and expressions of the resultant stress. The equations of motion and boundary conditions were derived from Hamilton's principle. The resultant system of ordinary differential equations was solved analytically. The effects of the nanobeam length-to-thickness ratio, thickness, and modes on the buckling and free vibration of the nanobeams were also investigated. Finally, it was found that the buckling and free vibration behavior of a nanobeam is size-dependent and that surface effects and surface energy produce significant effects by increasing the ratio of surface area to bulk at nano-scale. The results indicated that surface effects influence the buckling and free vibration performance of nanobeams and that increasing the length-to-thickness increases the buckling and free vibration in various higher-order shear deformation beam theories. This study can assist in measuring the mechanical properties of nanobeams accurately and designing nanobeam-based devices and systems.

In an infrared optical system, using a cooled detector generates a phenomenon called a narcissus, in which the focal-plane array cooled to very low temperatures is reflected at the lens surface and detected. The narcissus can be removed by non-uniformity correction of the detector pixel, so narcissus is generally ignored in infrared optics. However, non-uniformity correction reduces the sensitivity of the system. Also, as the housing temperature varies due to an environmental temperature change, or a lens is moved for focusing or athermalization purposes, a narcissus may occur even after non-uniformity correction. To minimize such a narcissus, the amount of the effect must be controlled in the lens-design stage. In this paper we designed a midinfrared optical system and analyzed the narcissus by setting the lens surface reflectance to 1%. In addition, the design was divided into stages of an initial design, an improved design, and a minimum design, and the narcissus was improved to about 56% of that in the initial design.

An attempt to obtain equipotential surface over the East China Sea along the three SEASAT ground tracks are described. Total correction of sea surface heights above the reference ellipsoid provided by SEASAT GDR Altimeter data consists of ocean tides and surges, body tides, sea level pressure inverse barometer effect corrections for the present study. It was shown that three equipotential surface derived from the corrections were qualitatively in agreement with GEM l0B Model and SS3 Mean Sea Surface Model.
The Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution (BRD) effect is critical to interpret the surface information using remotely sensed data. This effect was caused by geometric relationship between sensor, target and solar that is inevitable effect for data of optical sensor. To remove the BRD effect, semi-empirical BRDF models are widely used. It is faster to calculate than physical models and demanded less observation than empirical models. In this study, Ross-Li kernel and Roujean kernel were used respectively in National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and European Organization for the Exploitation of Meteorological Satellites (EUMETSAT) that are used to compare each other. The semi-empirical model consists of three parts which are isotropic, geometric and volumetric scattering. Each part contained physical kernel and empirical coefficients that were calculated by statistical method. Red and NIR channel of SPOT/VEGETATION product were used to compute Nadir BRDF Adjusted Reflectance (NBAR) over East Asia area from January 2009 to December 2009. S1 product was provided by VITO that was conducted atmospheric correction using Simplified Method of Atmospheric Correction (SMAC). NBAR was calculated using corrected reflectance of red and NIR. Previous study has revealed that Roujean geometric kernel had unphysical values in large zenith angles. We extracted empirical coefficients in three parts and normalized reflectance to compare both BRDF models. Two points located forest in Korea peninsular and bare land in Gobi desert were selected for comparison. As results of time series analysis, both models showed similar reflectance change pattern and reasonable values. Whereas in case of empirical coefficients comparison, different changes pattern of values were showed in isotropic coefficients.
We developed a precise terrain correction program using triangular element method (TEM) for microgravity data processing. TEM calculates gravity attraction of arbitrary polyhedra whose surface is patched by triangles. We showed that TEM can calculate more precise terrain effect than conventional rectangular prism method. We tested the accuracy of TEM on the cone model which has analytic solution. Also, we tested the accuracy of TEM on the slope model, this results showed that there are big differences calculated by TEM and rectangular prsim method (RPM) on slope model. The developed terrain correction program was applied on the gravity data on the southern area near sea shore of Korean peninsula, calculated terrain effect very precisely.
