  • Protease is mixtured in detergent to remove protein-soil easily. It must not act on the any fiber except protein-soil during laundry. So the purpose of this study is to investigate how protease is affect the fiber, particulary the protein-fiber. For this purpose, silk, wool and nylon are selected as samples, and the extent of the damage was estimated as tensile strength and surface condition (that is fibrillation). The results are as follows. The tensile strength of fiber treated with protease were lowered at enzyme concentration 0.1%, temperature 4$0^{\circ}C$ , and, as washing time was longer, it was lowered more. And it was showed that the surface of fibers were fiblliated by protease during washing. From this results, it was found that protease damaged protein-fiber. The damage of silk was the largest of all, and wool was less damaged than silk, because it has the scale (cuticle) on the outside. Additionary, an influence of surfactant on damage of fiber was little about three fibers, but, the fibers were damaged more by the binary nonionic-surfactant and protease mixture than by protease only.

  • This study has attempted to figure out the effects of the surface heat of perm rods on hair. For this, after forming perm waves, hair damage and its causes have been investigated with a different hair bleach method. If hair was bleached immediately without shampooing after a perm using the heat of rods, great perm waves were formed. However, severe damage was found on the hair because of the heated rods. In addition, when hair was shampooed and dried after the perm, hair bleach was more effective. It has been confirmed that hair was damaged because of high temperature of the surface of the rods. In fact, the heated rods had a direct effect on hair damage. According to these results, it has been confirmed that heat-based perms can accelerate hair damage. Therefore, it is necessary to perform a study on the minimization of the heating of permanent tools.

  • The hull of a fast sailing aluminium ship are generally prone to erosion owing to the impact of seawater. At this time, synergistic effects of the erosion and the corrosion by aggressive ions such as chlorides tend to aggravate the damage. There have been various attempts, including selection of erosion-resistant materials, cathodic protection and addition of corrosion inhibitors, to overcome damage by erosion or corrosion under marine environments. These approaches, however, have limits on identifying the damage mechanism clearly, because they depend on analogical interpretation by correlating two damage behaviors after the individual studies are assessed. In this research, it was devised a hybrid testing apparatus that integrates electrochemical corrosion test and cavitation test, and thus the erosion-corrosion behavior by cavitation was investigated more reliably. As a result, the slightest damage was observed at the potentials between -1.6 V and -1.5 V. This is considered to be due to a reflection or counterbalancing effect caused by collision of the cavitation cavities and the hydrogen gas formed by activation polarization.

  • In this paper, we investigated the electrical properties of crystalline silicon solar cell fabricated with Ni/Cu/Ag plating. The laser process was used to ablate silicon nitride layer as well as to form the selective emitter. Phosphoric acid layer was spin-coated to prevent damage caused by laser and formed selective emitter during laser process. As a result, the contact resistance was decreased by lower sheet resistance in electrode region. Low sheet resistance was obtained by increasing laser current, but efficiency and open circuit voltage were decreased by damage on the wafer surface. KOH treatment was used to remove the laser damage on the silicon surface prior to metalization of the front electrode by Ni/Cu/Ag plating. Ni and Cu were plated for each 4 minutes and 16 minutes and very thin layer of Ag with $1{\mu}m$ thickness was plated onto Ni/Cu electrode for 30 seconds to prevent oxidation of the electrode. The silicon solar cells with KOH treatment showed the 0.2% improved efficiency compared to those without treatment.

  • In this study, we carried out an ultrasonic-chemical decontamination process with immersion type, reproduced in the laboratory. The corrosion damage characteristics, depending on kind of materials and ultrasonic process time, were investigated. Inconel 600, which showed lower corrosion potential and higher corrosion current density than that of STS 316, revealed severer corrosion damage and higher weight-loss rate than STS 316. Weight-loss rate of Inconel 600 increased with increasing ultrasonic process time. On the other hands, STS 316 presented a negligibly small corrosion damage, which was almost indistinguishable from visual observation. There was no effect of ultrasonic process time on the weight-loss rate of STS 316.

  • we applied Wind Field Module of PHRLM so that disaster prevention agency concerned can effectively estimate the possible strong wind damages by typhoon. In this study, therefore, we estimated wind speed at 300m level using 700hPa wind according to the research method by Franklin(2003), PHRLM(2003), and Vickery and Skerlj(2005). Then we calculated wind speed at 10m level using the estimated wind speed at 300m level, and finally, peak 3.second gust on surface. The case period is from 18LST August 31 to 03LST September 1, 2002, when the typhoon Rusa in 2002 was the most intense. Among disaster prediction models in the US, Wind Field Module of PHRLM in Florida was used for the 2002 typhoon Rusa case. As a result, peak 3.second gust on the surface increased $10\sim20%$ in the typhoon's 700hPa wind speed.

  • Surface pitting is a major failure mode for gears. The contact fatigue life analysis of transmission gear considering running-in process is presented in this paper. Surface roughness change of rolling test is used in a life analysis. Contact stresses are obtained by contact analysis of a semi-infinite solid based on the use of influence functions; the subsurface stress field is obtained using rectangular patch solutions. Mesoscopic multiaxial fatigue criterion which can yield satisfactory results for non-proportional loading is then applied to predict fatigue damage. Suitable counting method and damage rule were used to calculate the fatigue life of random loading caused by rough surface. The life analysis considering running-in is in good agreement with the experimental results.

  • In this study, a low temperature growth of high-quality carbon nanotubes on glass substrate using a local surface heating without heating damage to substrate was tried and characterized. The local joule heating was induced to only Ni/Ti metal film on glass substrate by applying voltage to the film. It was estimated that local surface joule heating method could heat the metal surface locally up to around $1200^{\circ}C$ by voltage control. We could successfully obtain high-quality carbon nanotubes grown at $300^{\circ}C$ by applying 125 V for joule heating as same as carbon nanotubes grown at $900^{\circ}C$.

  • For most bearings, it is a common requirement to have long durability. Especially wheel bearing fatigue life is the most important in automotive quality. The contact fatigue life analysis of automotive wheel bearing considering real raceway rough surface is presented in this paper. Mesoscopic multiaxial fatigue criterion which can yield satisfactory results for non-proportional loading is then applied to predict fatigue damage. • This study investigate the hydration heat history with variation of surface insulating material in cold weather concreting. According to the results, the temperature of concrete lowers below zero in 24hours, so early frost damage occurs in the case of exposure and 1 fold bubble sheet, but the lowest temperature keeps above zero, so a adiabatic effect is very favorable in the case of double bubble sheet and 부직포. Compressive strength of core specimen at 7 and 28 days is highest In the case of double bubble sheet and 부직포. But, considering convenience of construction and economical efficiency, it is thought that the most effective surface insulating material is 1 fold bubble sheet +blanket.
