Since Jeju island has depended a water resource on the underground water because of a poor development of the surface flow, Jeju island is in need of the surface resource development to prevent the future shortage of the underground water due to excessive development and use of it. The study shows that the SWAT model(continuous rainfall-runoff model) is applied to estimate the outflow in the drainage watershed area, where it has been urbanized through the change of the land, such as a tourism development, cultivation, housing, and impervious layer road development. Near watershed area in Jeju island, weather and topographical SWAT input data were collected, and compared the outflow change of past and present.

Landsat images can monitor the snow-covered Earth surface variations with the ground resolution of 30m and the multi-spectral bands in the visible, NIR, SWIR and TIR spectral regions for the last 30 years. The Southern Volcanic Zone (SVZ) of Chile consists of many volcanoes, and all of the volcanoes are covered with snow at the top of mountain. Snow cover area in southern province of the SVZ of Chile (37 to $46^{\circ}S$) have been influenced by significant frontal retreats as well as eruptive activities. In this study, we have investigated the changes of the snow-cover area and snow-line elevation at Mt. Villarrica and Mt. Llaima, Chile from three Landsat images acquired on Feb. 1990, 2005 and 2011. The snow-cover areas are 13.42, 26.75 and $21.60km^2$ at Mt. Villarrica in 1990, 2005 and 2011, respectively, and 3.82, 25.12 and $8.89km^2$ at Mt. Llaima in 1990, 2005 and 2011, respectively. The snow-line elevations are 1871, 1738 and 1826m at Mt. Villarrica in 1990, 2005 and 2011, respectively, and 2007, 1822 and 1818m at Mt. Llaima in 1990, 2005 and 2011, respectively. The results indicate that both of the snow-cover and snow-line changes are strongly related with the volcanic activity change. The results demonstrate that the snow-cover area and snow-line elevation changes can be used as an indicator of the volcanic activity at Mt. Villarrica and Mt. Llaima, Chile.

The effects of hydro-meteorological and surface variables on the frequency of Asian dust events (FAE) were investigated using ground station and satellite-based data. Present weather codes 7, 8, and 9 derived from surface synoptic observations (SYNOP)were used for counting FAE. Surface wind speed (SWS), air temperature (Ta), relative humidity (RH), and precipitation were analyzed as hydro-meteorological variables for FAE. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), land surface temperature (LST), and snow cover fraction (SCF) were used to consider the effects of surface variables on FAE. The relationships between FAE and hydro-meteorological variables were analyzed using Z-score and empirical orthogonal function (EOF) analysis. Although all variables expressed the change of FAE, the degrees of expression were different. SWS, LST, and Ta (indices applicable when Z-score was < 0) explained about 63.01, 58.00, and 56.17% of the FAE,respectively. For NDVI, precipitation, and RH, Asian dust events occurred with a frequency of about 55.38, 67.37, and 62.87% when the Z-scores were > 0. EOF analysis for the FAE showed the seasonal cycle, change pattern, and surface influences related to dryness condition for the FAE. The intensity of SWS was the main cause for change of FAE, but surface variables such as LST, SCF, and NDVI also were expressed because wet surface conditions suppress FAE. These results demonstrate that not only SWS and precipitation, but also surface variables, are important and useful precursors for monitoring Asian dust events.

Baton Peninsula, where Sejong station is located, mainly covered with snow and vegetation. Because this area is sensitive to climate change, monitoring of surface variation is important to understand climate change on the polar region. Due to the inaccessibility, the remote sensing is useful to continuously monitor the area. The objectives of this research are 1) map classification of land-cover types in the Barton Peninsular around King Sejong station and 2) grasp distribution of vegetation species in classified area. A KOMPSAT-2 multispectral satellite image was used to classify land-cover types and vegetation species. We performed classification with hierarchical procedure using KOMPSAT-2 satellite image and ground reference data, and the result is evaluated for accuracy as well. As the results, vegetation and non-vegetation were clearly classified although species shown lower accuracies within vegetation class.
A 3D sonic anemometer has been installed at Yongpyong alpine slope since Oct. 23th 2014 to observe the slope winds and to analyze turbulent characteristics with the change in surface cover (grass and snow) and the synoptic wind strength. Eddy covariance method has been applied to calculate the turbulent quantity after coordinate transformation of a planar-fit rotation. We have carefully selected 3 good episodes in the winter season (23 October 2014 to 28 February 2015) for each category (9 days in total), such as grass and snow covers in case of weak synoptic wind condition, and grass cover of strong synoptic wind. The diurnal variations of the slope winds were well developed like the upslope wind in the daytime and downslope wind in the nighttime for both surface covers (grass and snow) in the weak synoptic forcing, when accordingly both heat and momentum fluxes significantly increased in the daytime and decreased in the nighttime. Meanwhile, diurnal variation of heat flux was not present on the snow cover probably in associated with significant fraction of sunlight reflection due to high albedo especially during the daytime in comparison to those on the grass cover. In the strong synoptic regime, the most dominant feature at Yongpyong, only the southeasterly downslope winds were steadily generated irrespective of day and night with significant increases in momentum flux and turbulent kinetic energy as well, which could suggest that local circulations are suppressed by the synoptic scale forcing. In spite of only one season analysis applied to the limited domain, this kind of an observation-based study will provide the basis for understanding of the local wind circulation in the complex mountain domain such as Gangwon in Korea.
This study measured the effect 3D printing products comprised of different materials and shapes on heat transfer in clothing to derive fundamental data on thermal comfort among clothing comfort. The variables were three types of material (EVA foam, TPU-10%, TPU-10%+EVA), two types of shape (without holes, with holes), and two types of covers(without cover, with cover). All samples (12 types) prepared by combining these variables were placed on the hot plate set at 36℃, and the surface temperature was measured at three points for 10 minutes. The surface temperature change was dependent on the material, shape, and cover of the sample. The sample printed with TPU exhibited higher temperature transfer compared to the EVA foam sample after 10 mins. In addition, the temperature transfer was better when there were holes, and rate decreased when the sample was covered with fabric. We confirmed that material selection of the pad and thermal conductivity of the cover are extremely important in solving thermal stress to the human body caused by functional clothing with protectors. Additionally, as the protector, it is recommended to design the outer shell with a passage, such as a hole, to allow the rapid transfer of heat to the external environment.

A physical-based aggregation method was suggested to estimate surface roughness, which adequately represents the spatial heterogeneity of vegetation factors, from land cover property obtained from the remote sensing data. For the sensitivity analysis of surface roughness, the peak flow, peak time, and total volume were simulated by the NWS-PC. Effects of surface roughness estimated by three different integration methods (predominant, arithmetic mean, and aggregation approach) on the conceptual rainfall-runoff model parameters was analyzed. In the preliminary sensitivity test to surface roughness, the peak time had 10% variation and total volume had 2% variation. The peak time increased with surface roughness. A physical-based aggregation method was better than the existing method in the Soyanggang Dam basin for the results of STDEV, RMSE, NSE, and PME, but difference between them were small. The parameters related on the total baseflow were changed significantly with change of the surface roughness.
Structural changes of the vitelline envelopes during oogenesis of a polychaete, Nectoneanthes oxypoda, were examined with a scanning electron micrscope. Oocytes grow in the same coelomic fluid to the final stage, but the surface appears to change in the structure during oogenesis. Projections, which were identified to be microvilli, change in shape, number and size. Short microvilli, which cover the surface of oocyte of $33{\mu}m$ diameter densely, grow in length, reaching a maximum at the stage of $73{\mu}m$. The number of microvilli increases with the stages of oogenesis, reaching a plateau at the stage of $82{\mu}m$. The observations suggest that control of material transport including yolk precursor proteins may be correlated with the structural changes in the microvilli.
This study investigates the impacts of land cover change due to urbanization on the Urban Heat Island Intensity (UHII) and the Heat Index (HI) over the Seoul metropolitan area using the Unified Model (UM) with the Met Office Reading Urban Surface Exchange Scheme (MORUSES) during the heat wave from 16, July to 5, August 2018. Two simulations are performed with the late 1980s land-use (EXP1980) and the late 2000s land-use (EXP2000). EXP2000 is verified using Automatic Weather Station (AWS) data from 85 points in the study area, and observation sites are classified into two categories according to the urban fraction change over 20 years; Category A is 0.2 or less increase, and Category B is 0.2 or more increase. The 1.5-m temperature and relative humidity in Category B increase by up to 1.1℃ and decreased by 7% at 1900 LST and 2000 LST, respectively. This means that the effect of the urban fraction changes is higher at night. UHII increases by up to 0.3℃ in Category A and 1.3℃ in Category B at 1900 LST. Analysis of the surface energy balance shows that the heat store for a short time during the daytime and release at nighttime with upward sensible heat flux. As a result of the HI, there is no significant difference between the two experiments during the daytime, but it increases 1.6℃ in category B during the nighttime (2200 LST). The results indicate that the urbanization increase both UHII, and HI, but the times of maximum difference between EXP1980 and EXP2000 are different.

Clouds in the atmosphere are important variables that affect the temperature change by reflecting the radiant energy of the earth surface as well as changing the amount of sunshine by reflecting the sun's radiation energy. Especially, the amount of sunshine on the surface is very important It is essential information. Therefore, eye-observations of the sky on the surface of the earth have been enhanced by satellite photographs or relatively narrowed observation equipments. Therefore, cloud automatic observing systems have been developed in order to replace the human observers, but depending on the seasons, the reliability of observations is not high enough to be applied in the field due to pollutants or fog in the atmosphere. Therefore, we have developed a cloud observation algorithm that is robust against smog and fog. It is based on the calculation of the degree of aerosol from the all-sky image, and is added to the developed cloud reader to develop season- and climate-insensitive algorithms to improve reliability. The result compared to existing cloud readers and the result of cloud cover is improved.
