In micro-machining, diamond tool is commonly used because it brings much better micro-machinability due to its edge sharpness. However, it is a big question even how thinly the sharp edge of a diamond tool can cut a ship from the workpiece surface. This paper is to investigate the critical cutting depth, at which the dominant cutting mode changes from chip formation to burnishing or vice versa, for a given edge radius. The theoretically critical cutting depth is 0.25$\mu\textrm{m}$(0.8$\mu\textrm{m}$) in cutting using a square type(V-type) diamond tool that has edge radius of 1$\mu\textrm{m}$(1.5$\mu\textrm{m}$). Experimentally, the dominant cutting mode changes and cutting surface becomes better at critical cutting depth. To get high quality surface, depth of cut must be critical cutting depth because less plastically deformed substrate is left on the surface.

It is well known that the state of existence of molecules on the surface of water changes during compression of the molecules. Electric methods, such as the measurement of the surface potential or displacement current, are also useful for investigating dynamic changes of the molecular state on the water surface during compression. Maxwell-Displacement-Current(MDC) measuring technique has been applied to the study of monolayers of Arachidic acid and L-$\alpha$-Dimyristoyl Phosphatidylcholine(L-$\alpha$-DMPC). The displacement current was generated from monolayers on a water surface by monolayer compression. Displacement current was generated in the gas state, gas/liquid state, and liquid state in the course of monolayer compression. The researchers examined diplacement current of electric conduction organic monolayer generated due to orient change of monolayers alkylchain.
The prediction of soil response under repetitive mechanical loadings remains challenging in geotechnical engineering applications. Modeling the cyclic soil response requires a robust model validation with an experimental dataset. This study proposes a unique method adopting linearity of model constant with the number of cycles. The model allows the prediction of the terminal density of sediments when subjected to repetitive changes in pore-fluid pressure based on the two-surface plasticity. Model simulations are analyzed in combination with an experimental dataset of sandy sediments when subjected to repetitive changes in pore fluid pressure under constant deviatoric stress conditions. The results show that the modified plastic moduli in the two-surface plasticity model appear to be critical for determining the terminal density. The methodology introduced in this study is expected to contribute to the prediction of the terminal density and the evolution of shear strain at given repetitive loading conditions.

Chemical and morphological changes of phenol formaldehyde-based photoresist after $O_2$ radiofrequency(RF) plasma treatment depending on exposure time and source power were investigated. It was found that etch rate of photoresist sharply increased after discharge turn on and reached a limit with increase in plasma exposure time. Contact angle measurements and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) analysis showed that the surface chemical structure become nearly constant after 15 sec of the treatment. Atomic force microprobe(AFM) measurements were shown that surface roughness was increased with plasma exposure time.

Vacuum degassing is essential in the preparation of RS P/M aluminum alloys to remove adsorbates and for the decomposition of hydrated-$Al_{2}O_3$ on the powder surface. Changes in the surface characteristics during vacuum degassing were investigated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and temperature-programmed desorption measurement. Hydrated-$Al_{2}O_3$ decomposition to crystalline-$Al_{2}O_3$ and hydrogen desorption on the surface of argon gas-atomized aluminum powder occurred at 623 K and 725 K, respectively. This temperature difference suggests that the reaction converting hydrated-$Al_{2}O_3$ to crystalline-$Al_{2}O_3$ during vacuum degassing should be divided into the two reactions $"2Al+Al_{2}O_3{\cdot}3H_2O\;2Al_{2}O_3+6H_{surf}"and"6H_{surf}3H_2"$.
The sliding wear behavior of the plasma sprayed zirconia containing 8wt% yttria was investigated over a range of room temperature to 800℃. Both of the friction coefficient and the wear loss increased reaching its maximum at about to 499℃. and then decreased again with increasing temperature up to 800℃. The worn surface at elevated temperature were observed and analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffractometer to study the mechanisms of high temperature wear behavior. Surface morphology of the worn samples changes with temperature. Monoclinic (m)/tetragonal (t) x-ray peak intensity ratio of wear debris and worn surface decreased with increasing temperature. Non-transformable tetragonal (t') to metastable tetragonal (t) phase transformation of worn surface increased with increasing temperature. The results indicate that dehumidification and above phase changes are contributing to the high temperature wear behavior of the plasma sprayed ZrO2-Y2O3 coatings.

Purpose : The purpose of this study has been performed to find the changes in the balance and activities of daily living on children with ataxic cerebral palsy from dual task training. Methods : This study selects 3 subjects for 7.6 years old who were diagnosed with children with ataxic cerebral palsy. The dual task training applied three times a week for six weeks to ataxic cerebral palsy. To assess changes in balance, we performed the length and surface area ellipse of central of pressure, Pediatric Balance Scale, We also assessed activities of daily living using Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory. Result : There were statistically significant differences in the changes during training period for the static(length and surface area ellipse of central of pressure) and functional balance(PBS). There were statistically significant differences in the changes during training period for the Pediatric Evaluation of Disability Inventory including self-care and mobility domains, except for social function domain. Conclusion : The results from this case study suggest that dual task training may have a beneficial changes on balance and activities of daily living for children with ataxic cerebral palsy.

A treatment for improving the characteristics of a surface is very important in increasing the life of machine parts. Many studies have been carried out on the surface characteristics after such treatments. For enhanced eco-technology, an alternative to a conventional chemical surface treatment process is essential. Ultrasonic nano-crystal surface modification (UNSM) technology is a physical environmentally friendly surface treatment method. This technology was developed in domestic and currently being used. As the mechanism of UNSM technology, a ball tip attached to an ultrasonic vibration device strikes the metal surface at nearly 20,000 times per second. The resulting modified surface layer improves the surface characteristics. This paper describes a self-developed fast tool servo system applied to the UNSM process as a vibration module within a high-frequency bandwidth. After describing the surface modification process based on the material and process changes, the surface characteristics are compared.
An adequate and homogeneous cure of light-activated restroative material is very important for improvement of marginal adaptation and prevention of marginal leakage, secondary caries and pulpal irritation as well as expressing natural physical property of that material. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the change of surface hardness and cure uniformity of light-activated glass ionomer cements. Restorative(Fuji II LC, Vitremer) and lining(Baseline VLC, Vitrebond) light-activated glass ionomer cements were investigated for this study. The surface hardness of the top and bottom surfaces and cure uniformity of each 1mm, 1.5mm, 2mm, 2.5mm & 3mm in the thickness of specimen were measured immediately, at 1 hour, 24 hours and 1 week after light activation. The surface hardness change and cure uniformity of all the specimens were measured by Knoop hardness tester. The results were as follows. 1. The surface hardness of top and bottom surfaces in all groups increased with time(p<0.01). 2. Both top and bottom surfaces hardness of Vitrebond group measured immediately after light-activation were significantly lower than those of the other groups(p<0.01). 3. The surface hardness of top and bottom surfaces of restorative light -activated glass ionomer cements was higher than those of lining materials at 1 week(p<0.10). 4. Surface hardness of Vitremer group decreased as the specimen thickness increased, except top and bottom surfaces hardness of the specimen at 1 week(p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the surface hardness of Fuji II LC with changes in the thickness except bottom surface hardness of specimen at 24 hours and 1 week (p>0.05). 5. Surface hardness of Vitrebond group significantly decreased as the specimen thickness increased(p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the surface hardness of Baseline VLC group with changes in the thickness except bottom surface hardness of specimen measured immediately after light -activation(p>0.05). 6. The hardness ratio of top against bottom surface in all groups decreased with time(p<0.05). 7. There was no significant difference in the hardness ratio of top against bottom surface with changes of the thickness except Vitrebond group, 24 hours and 1 week of Vitremer group and 1 week of Baseline VLC group (p>0.05). These results suggest that surface hardness of restorative ligh-activated glass ionomer cements were highter than those of lining light-activated materials. In all groups, the surface hardness and cure uniformity continuously increased with time.
