  • In this paper we propose a new method for solving multiclass problem with least squares support vector machine(LS-SVM) regression. This method implements one-against-all scheme which is as accurate as any other approach. We also propose cross validation(CV) method to select effectively the optimal values of hyper-parameters which affect the performance of the proposed multiclass method. Experimental results are then presented which indicate the performance of the proposed multiclass method.

  • In high-dimensional data analysis, sufficient dimension reduction (SDR) has been considered as an attractive tool for reducing the dimensionality of predictors while preserving regression information. The principal support vector machine (PSVM) (Li et al., 2011) offers a unified approach for both linear and nonlinear SDR. This article comprehensively explores a variety of SDR methods based on the PSVM, which we call principal machines (PM) for SDR. The PM achieves SDR by solving a sequence of convex optimizations akin to popular supervised learning methods, such as the support vector machine, logistic regression, and quantile regression, to name a few. This makes the PM straightforward to handle and extend in both theoretical and computational aspects, as we will see throughout this article.

  • Statistical learning theory has three analytical tools which are support vector machine, support vector regression, and support vector clustering for classification, regression, and clustering respectively. In general, their performances are good because they are constructed by convex optimization. But, there are some problems in the methods. One of the problems is the subjective determination of the parameters for kernel function and regularization by the arts of researchers. Also, the results of the learning machines are depended on the selected parameters. In this paper, we propose an efficient method for objective determination of the parameters of support vector clustering which is the clustering method of statistical learning theory. Using evolutionary algorithm and bootstrap method, we select the parameters of kernel function and regularization constant objectively. To verify improved performances of proposed research, we compare our method with established learning algorithms using the data sets form ucr machine learning repository and synthetic data.

  • Recently, support vector machine has been widely used in various application fields due to its superiority of classification performance comparing with decision tree and neural network. Since support vector machine is basically designed for the binary classification problem, output coding method to analyze the classification result of multiclass binary classifier is used for the application of support vector machine into the multiclass problem. However, previous feature selection method for output coding based support vector machine found the features to improve the overall classification accuracy instead of improving each classification accuracy of each classifier. In this paper, we propose the novel feature selection method to find the features for maximizing the classification accuracy of each binary classifier in output coding based support vector machine. Experimental result showed that proposed method significantly improved the classification accuracy comparing with previous feature selection method.

  • In explosively increasing internet environments, information security is one of the most important consideration. Nowadays, various security solutions are used as such problems countermeasure; IDS, Firewall and VPN. However, basically internet has much vulnerability of protocol itself. Specially, it is possible to establish a covert channel using TCP/IP header fields such as identification, sequence number, acknowledge number, timestamp and so on. In this Paper, we focus cm the covert channels using identification field of IP header and the sequence number field of TCP header. To detect such covert channels, we used Support Vector Machine which has excellent performance in pattern classification problems. Our experiments showed that proposed method could discern the abnormal cases(including covert channels) from normal TCP/IP traffic using Support Vector Machine.

  • In general, Support Vector Machine has a good performance in binary classification, but it has the limitation on multi-pattern classification. So, we proposed an Import Vector Voting model for two or more labels classification. This model applied kernel bagging strategy to Import Vector Machine by Zhu. The proposed model used a voting strategy which averaged optimal kernel function from many kernel functions. In experiments, not only binary but multi-pattern classification problems, our proposed Import Vector Voting model showed good performance for given machine learning data.

  • In this paper, the impact of a vernacular pozzolanic kaolinite mine on concrete alkali-silica reaction and strength has been evaluated. For making the samples, kaolinite powder with various levels has been used in the quality specification test of aggregates based on the ASTM C1260 standard in order to investigate the effect of kaolinite particles on reducing the reaction of the mortar bars. The compressive strength, X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) experiments have been performed on concrete specimens. The obtained results show that addition of kaolinite powder to concrete will cause a pozzolanic reaction and decrease the permeability of concrete samples comparing to the reference concrete specimen. Further, various machine learning methods have been used to predict ASR-induced expansion per different amounts of kaolinite. In the process of modeling methods, optimal method is considered to have the lowest mean square error (MSE) simultaneous to having the highest correlation coefficient (R). Therefore, to evaluate the efficiency of the proposed model, the results of the support vector machine (SVM) method were compared with the decision tree method, regression analysis and neural network algorithm. The results of comparison of forecasting tools showed that support vector machines have outperformed the results of other methods. Therefore, the support vector machine method can be mentioned as an effective approach to predict ASR-induced expansion.

  • Reliability analysis and prediction of next failure time is critical to sustain weapon systems, concerning scheduled maintenance, spare parts replacement and maintenance interventions, etc. Since 1981, many methodology derived from various probabilistic and statistical theories has been suggested to do that activity. Nowadays, many A.I. tools have been used to support these predictions. Support Vector Regression(SVR) is a nonlinear regression technique extended from support vector machine. SVR can fit data flexibly and it has a wide variety of applications. This paper utilizes SVM and SVR with combining time series to predict the next failure time based on historical failure data. A numerical case using failure data from the military equipment is presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed approach. Finally, the proposed approach is proved meaningful to predict next failure point and to estimate instantaneous failure rate and MTBF.
