  • Integrating a 3D solid modeler with a general purpose FEM code, an automatic nonlinear analysis system of the 3D crack problems has been developed. A geometry model, i.e. a solid containing one or several 3D cracks is defined. Several distributions of local node density are chosen, and then automatically superposed on one another over the geometry model by using the fuzzy knowledge processing. Nodes are generated by the bucketing method, and ten-noded quadratic tetrahedral solid elements are generated by the Delaunay triangulation techniques. The complete finite element(FE) model generated, and a stress analysis is performed. In this system, burden to analysts fur introducing 3D cracks to the FE model as well as fur estimating their fracture mechanics parameters can be dramatically reduced. This paper describes the methodologies to realize such functions, and demonstrates the validity of the present system.

  • A numerical scheme is considered for computing charge distributions and drawing equipotential lines for multiconductor transmission lines with arbitrary cross sections. Two-dimensional integral equation superposed by the charges is numerically calculated by the method of moments. Here in Galerkin's method special pulses cut into halves chosen for expansion and testing functions facilitate the numerical computations in solving the integral equation. Numerical examples are given for some system of which the shell conductor is grounded as the reference zero of potential.

  • The homogenization method is used to develop a beam element in space for thermo-mechanical analysis of unidirectional composites. Local stress and temperature field in the microscale are described using the function of homogenization. The global (macroscopic) behaviour of the structure is supposed to be that of a beam. Beam-type kinematical hypotheses (including independent shear rotations) are hence applied and superposed on the microdescription. A macroscopic stiffness matrix for such a beam element is then developed which contains the microscale properties of the single cell of periodicity. The presented model enables us to analyse without too much computational effort complicated composite structures such as e.g. toroidal coils of a fusion reactor. We need only a FE mesh sufficiently fine for a correct description of the local geometry of a single cell and a few of the newly developed elements for the description of the global behaviour. An unsmearing procedure gives the stress and temperature field in the different materials of a single cell.

  • It is very important to understand objectively the Qi variation induced by the reinforcing-reducing manipulation method in the therapy of acupuncture. The Qi variation in the meridian treated by O-Haeng Reinforcing-Reducing Manipulation Acupuncture Method and the recovery of Five Phase deviation were measured by choosing complex acupoints. By using O-Haeng Reinforcing-Reducing Manipulation Acupuncture Method, we increased or decreased the Qi of the phase which caused the unbalance state. We observed whether the Qi of the treated meridian can be increased or not and if the state of unbaIance can be recovered. To achieve the effect of reinforcing-reducing, we need a correct choice of treating method and a selection of a proper meridian in advance. We discovered that the effects of reinforcing-reducing by each manipulation method could be superposed each other, when two counteracting O-Haeng Reinforcing-Reducing Manipulation Acupuncture Method were treated at the left and the right side of human body. We found that the Qi variation of the traeted meridian, which was induced by O-Haeng Reinforcing-Reducing Manipulation Acupuncture Method, is lineary proportioned to the reduction of Five Phase deviation.

  • Analysis of Dynamic Characterisocs of Rectangular Plate by Finite Element Method. Dynamic characteristics of a rectangular plate with opening in it is studied by finite element method. To investigate these characteristics 12 degrees of freedom membrane finite element in used. The rectangular membrane finite elements are defined by specifying geometry, internal displacement functions and strain-displacement relations. Then, the governing equation for the finite element is derived by energy method. To derive the mass matrix and stiffness matrix of the element, expressions for strain and kineic energy in terms of the node displacement are generated. In constructing the overall structure matrix, the matrix of each elements are superposed and partitioned by applying the given boundary condition to obtain a nonslngular matrix. To find the natural freguencies and viration modes, the eigen values and the corresponding eigen vectors are computed by the computer using well known Jacobi power method. In order to verify the capability of the membrane finite element, a flat rectangular plate is analyzed first, and the result is compared with well known analytical results to show the good agreement. A rectangular plate with opening in It is analyzed with the same finite element. The results are presented in this paper. Unfortunately, the literature study could not provide with some results to compare, but the results reveal that the output of this research is phlslcally reasonable. And the results of this research are useful not only in practice but also for the future experimental research in comparison purpose.

  • In this paper, a stress wave model is established to describe the three states (separate, contact and impact) of clearance joints. Based on this stress wave model, the propagation characteristics of stress wave generated in clearance joints is revealed. First, the stress wave model of clearance joints is established based on the viscoelastic theory. Then, the reflection and transmission characteristics of stress wave with different boundaries are studied, and the propagation of stress wave in viscoelastic rods is described by the characteristics method. Finally, the stress wave propagation in clearance joints with three states is analyzed to validate the proposed model and method. The results show the clearance sizes, initial axial speeds and material parameters have important influences on the stress wave propagation, and the new stress waves will generate when the clearance joint in contact and impact states, and there exist some high stress region near contact area of clearance joints when the incident waves are superposed with reflection waves, which may speed up the damage of joints.

  • The blasting vibration prediction in the country is mainly carried out by using the scaled distance method. But, this method needs a real-scale test blasting. The blasting vibration prediction has been performed using the data measured at borehole blasting for the purpose of a geological investigation before beginning a construction of a tunnel. In this prediction method, it is difficult to reflect the propagation characteristics of ground vibration generated from a real-scale blasting. propagation. This paper presents a new method for estimating blasting vibration by using superposed data of single hole blasting waveform with a delay time.

  • Cold expansion is an efficient way to improve the fatigue life of an open hole. In this paper, three finite element models have been established to bind the crack growth from an expanded hole and simulated. Expansion and its degree influence are studied using a numerical analysis. Stress intensity factors are determined and used to evaluate the fatigue life. Residual stress field is evaluated using a nonlinear analysis and superposed with the applied stresses field in order to estimate fatigue crack growth. Experimental tests are conducted under constant loading. Results of this investigation indicate expansion and its degree are beneficial to fatigue life and a good agreement was observed between FEM simulations and experimental results.

  • In order to build and manage an ATM network effectively under several types of control methods, it is necessary to estimate the performance of the equipments in various viewpoints, especially of ATM multiplexer. As for the method to model the input stream into the ATM multiplexer, many researches have been done to characterize it by, such as, fluid flow, MMPP(Markov Modulated Poisson Process), or MMDP (Markov Modulated Deterministic Process). We introduce an MRP(Markov Renewal Process) to model the input stream which has proper structure to represent the burst traffic with high correlation. In this paper, we build a model for aggregated heterogeneous ON-OFF sources of ATM traffic by MRP. We make discrete time MR/D/1/B queueing system, whose input process is the superposed MRP and present a performance analysis by finding CLP(Cell Loss Probability). A simulation is done to validate our algorithm.

  • Ion acoustic solitary wave in a plasma consisting of electrons and ions with an external magnetic field is reinvestigated using the Sagdeev's potential method. Although the Sagdeev potential has a singularity for n < 1, where n is the ion number density, we obtain new solitary wave solutions by expanding the Sagdeev potential up to ${\delta}n^4$ near n = 1. They are compressiv (rarefactive) waves and shock type solitary waves. These waves can exist all together as a superposed wave which may be used to explain what would be observed in the solar wind plasma. We compared our theoretical results with the data of the Freja satellite in the study of Wu et al. (1996). Also it is shown that these solitary waves propagate with a subsonic speed.
