초전도 전력케이블의 1선 지락고장 특성 해석에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Single Line-to-Ground Fault Analysis of HTS Power Cable)

  • High temperature superconducting(HTS) power cable is expected to be used for power transmission lines supplying electric power for densely populated cities in the near future. Commercializing of HTS power cable is coming. Simulation is required for safety before install of HTS power cable, a fabrication model used at the power system simulation. In this paper, we shows a single line-to ground fault analysis in the grid system which has a loom length HTS power cable. The authors developed a single line-to-ground fault current calculation method which is considering the shield layer of HTS power cable. In the calculation, the T type equivalent circuit is used to derive the mutual inductance of the HTS power cable.

  • Current lead plays the part of connector between ambient temperature and liquid helium superconducting magnet. Having zero resistance characteristic, it is expected that HTS has very low thermal conductivity and generate no joule heat when fabricated to current lead. In particular, among the HTS meterials, HTS tape has high Jc and Ag-sheath of tape plays the part of stabilizer, but it has too poor mechanical strength to be applied and when fabricated as long length tape, it has tendency to decline Jc seriously. In this study, we fabricated Bi-2223 multifilamentary tapes and then made current lead with stacking type using them. Through this work, we conclude that the defect of HTS long length tape is decreased by addition the number of stacking tape and that current lead is able to operate more stably by minimizing the gap of tapes.

YBCO 박막을 이용한 3상 6.6kV 항형 초전도 한류기의 동시Quench 분석 (Simultaneous Quench Analysis of a Three-Phase 6.6 kV Resistive SFCL Based on YBCO Thin Films)

  • We fabricated a resistive type superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) of 3-phase $6.6 kV_{rms}$ / rating, based on YBCO thin films grown on sapphire substrates with a diameter off inch. Each element of the SFCL was designed to have the rated voltage of $600 V_{rms}$ $/35A_{rms}$. The elements produced a single phase with 8${\times}$6 components connected in series and parallel. In addition, a NiCr shunt resistor of 23 $\Omega$ was connected in parallel to each of them for simultaneous quenches between the elements. Prior to investigating the performance of the 3 phase SFCL, we examined the quench characteristics for 8 elements connected in series. For all elements, simultaneous quenches and equal voltage distribution within 10% deviation from the average were obtained. Based on these results, performance of the SFCL for single line-to-ground faults was investigated. The SFCL successfully limited the fault current of $10 kA_{ rms}$ below 816 $A_{peak}$ within 0.12 msec right after the fault occurred. During the quench process, average temperature of all components did not exceed 250 K, and the SFCL was totally safe during the whole operation.

  • CeO$_2$ buffer layers and in-situ YSa$_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$ (YBCO) thin films were grown by pulsed laser deposition method on R-plane sapphire substrates. Superconducting properties and surface morphologies of YBCO thin films exhibit strong dependence on the crystallinity of CeO$_2$ buffer layer. The best a-axis oriented CeO$_2$ buffer layers could be grown at 800 $^{\circ}C$ of deposition temperature, 1.5 J/ cm$^2$ of laser energy density and 50 mTorr of oxygen pressure. The YBCO thin films on the a-axis CeO$_2$ buffer layer have Tc (R=0) ${\ge}$ 89.5 K, ${\delta}$Tc ${\sim}$ 0.5 K, and Jc ${\ge}$ 3.2 ${\times}$ 10$^6$ A/ cm$^2$ at 77 K.

  • For the fabrication of fault current limiting device using HTSC thick film, YBa$_2Cu_3O_x$ superconducting thick film was formed by surface diffusion process of the Y$_2BaCUO_5$ and the mixed compound of (3BaCuO$_2$+2CuO) expected to be liquid phase above the peritectic temperature of YBa$_2Cu_3O_x$. For the surface diffusion, the compounds of 3BaCuO$_2$+2CuO mixed with binder material was patterned on Y$_2BaCUO_5$ substrate by the screen printing method. After proper sintering, the characteristics of current limit on thick film fabricated was measured. The thick film was able to limit the current from 2.8213 mA$_{rms}$nu to 4.2034 mA$_{rms}$ with 500${\omega}$ load resistance, and from 4.1831 mA$_{rms}$ to 4.2150 mA$_{rms}$ with 10${\omega}$ load resistance.

  • We developed a 40-channel superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) system for neuromagnetic measurements. The main features of the system are use of double relaxation oscillation SQUID (DROS), and planar gradiometer for measuring tangential field components. The DROSS with high flux-to-voltage transfers enabled direct readout of the SQUID output by room-temperature electronics and simple flux-locked loop circuits could be used for SQUID operation. The pickup coil is an integrated first-order planar gradiometer with a baseline of 40 mm. The average noise of the 40 channels is around 1.2 fT/cm/${\sqrt{Hz}}$ at 100 Hz, corresponding to the field noise of 5 fT/${\sqrt{Hz}}$ at 100 Hz, operated inside a magnetically shielded room. The 40-Channel system was applied to measure auditory-evoked neuromagnetic fields.

  • We have fabricated $_2Cu_3O_7$ step-edge junctions with different step orientations and studied their transition properties. Steps with different orientations were prepared on the substrate. Josephson junctions were made on a single substrate with step orientations ranging from 0$^{\circ}$ to 165$^{\circ}$ at 15$^{\circ}$ interval. We measured current-voltage characteristics, the critical current, and the superconducting transition temperature as a function of the angle. The critical current showed a modulation that has a maximum near 0$^{\circ}$ or 90$^{\circ}$ and a minimum near 45$^{\circ}$ and 135$^{\circ}$. We believe that the critical current modulation with the step orientation could be associated with the symmetry of high T$_c$ superconductor.

$MgB_2$ 결정립 나노브릿지 특성에 관한 연구 (Properties of $MgB_2$ Intragrain Nanobridges)

  • Inter-grain nanobridges of the $MgB_2$ superconductor have been fabricated by focused-ion-beam(FIB) and their electrical transport properties were studied. The $MgB_2$ film was prepatterned into microbridges by a standard argon ion milling technique and then FIB-patterned into 100 nm$\times$100 nm bridges. Current-voltage characteristics showed a strong flux-flow type behavior at all temperatures with a trait of Josephson coupling near $T_c$. At low temperatures, the curves showed a two-step resistance-doubled transition with occasional hysteresis. The resistance-doubling transition is believed to be due to a two-channel flux-flow effect. The temperature-dependent critical current data showed $I_c(T){\propto}(1-T/T_c)^2$ near $T_c$, same as a normal barrier junction, and $I_c(T){\propto}(1-T/T_c)^{1.2}$ at low temperatures, similar to that of a film.

  • The stability issue of high temperature superconducting (HTS) racetrack coils is one of the most important factors for the development of large-scale rotating machines, such as ship propulsion motors and power generators. However, The stability and normal zone propagation characteristics of HTS racetrack pancake (RP) coils are not sufficient yet. In this study, quench tests for a GdBCO racetrack pancake coil were carried out under the condition of $LN_2$ at 77 K. Minimum quench energy and two-dimensional normal zone propagation velocities of the coil are also discussed. Normal zone propagation velocity in the coil's curved section is faster than in its straight section due to stress effects. The test results show that the protection of the straight section is of greater importance than that of the curved section when GdBCO racetrack pancake coils are applied to large-scale rotating machines.

Estimation of the critical current of race-track HTS magnet considering angular dependency

  • The high temperature superconducting (HTS) magnet has been developed for the high magnetic field applications such as NMR, MRI and other industrial machinery. In designing process of these HTS magnets, the accurate estimation on the critical current (Ic) is essential to predict and secure the electromagnetic performance. The critical current of 2G HTS tape has anisotropic Ic degradation characteristics with the application of magnetic field - angular dependency of critical current. It is known that the perpendicular magnetic field to the face of HTS tape makes dominant degradation on the critical current for conventional 2G HTS tape. However, recently developed 2G HTS tape has more complex characteristics due to the artificial pinning center. Therefore, the method for Ic estimation reflecting such characteristics of 2G HTS tape needs to be devised. The method considering the angular dependency is introduced in this paper. And the result of newly devised method is compared with that of previous method.
