The electrical current generated by heart creates not only electric potential but also a magnetic field. We have observed electrophysiological phenomena of the heart by measuring tangential components of magnetocardiogram(MCG) using 61 channel superconducting quantum interference device(SQUD) system. In this paper, we developed a new analysis method, which is based on the theory of electromagnetic field. We show some differences of the current direction between the normal MCG and the abnormal(ischemic heart disease) MCG.
The effect of the superconducting film thickness on the surface resistance has been investigated. Superconducting YBCO thin films have been grown on MgO substrates by pulsed laser deposition. The dependence of the orientation of YBCO film on thickness has been investigated by X-ray diffraction technique. X-ray diffraction indicated that the film orientation was changed by increasing the film thickness and by changing the substrate temperature. The microwave properties of the films with mixed orientations of a-axis and c-axis will be reported for the applications of microwave devices.
Superconducting Magnetic Energy Storage (SMES) can inject or absorb real and reactive power to or from a power system at a very fast rate on a repetitive basis. These characteristics make the application of SMES ideal for transmission grid control and stability enhancement. The purpose of this paper is to introduce the SMES model and scheme to control the active and reactive power through the power electronic device. Furthermore, an optimal priority scheme is proposed for the combination of active and reactive power control to be able to stabilize power transient swings.

The superconducting permanent current switch (PCS) is an important component to build MRI system. This switch uses a thermal and / or magnetic super-to-normal phase transition of the superconductor. Unfortunately, in the past it was not designed for using in line frequency. We made some superconducting power electronics devices operating up to 100 Hz [1]. The results of development and preliminary studying of the hear controlled S-PED up to line frequency are presented.
Mono-atomic-layer graphene is an interesting system for studying the relativistic carrier transport arising from a linear energy-momentum dispersion relation. An easy control of the carrier density in graphene by applying an external gate field makes the system even more useful. In this study, we measured the Josephson current in a device consisting of mono-layer graphene sheet sandwiched between two closely spaced (~300 nm) aluminum superconducting electrodes. Gate dependence of the supercurrent in graphene Josephson junction follows the gate dependence of the normal-state conductance. The gate-tunable and relatively large supercurrent in a graphene Josephson junction would facilitate our understanding on the weak-link behavior in a superconducting-normal metal-superconducting (SNS) type Josephson junction.
The goal of the research is to study and describe a new stressed state of High Temperature Superconducting (High-Tc) YBCO Films, to create of SQUIDs (Superconducting Quantum Interference Device) on the bases of these Films with maximal sensitivity. The experimental investigation of the stressed films grown by laser ablation method and its properties, the fabrication of the dc-SQUIDs with maximal sensitivity on the bases of the stressed YBCO films were carried out. The stressed film having the value of the critical current density $J_{c}=3{\cdot}10^{5}A/cm^{2}$ was the more stable than others.

We report on the fabrication and measurement results of the electrical transport properties of superconductor-normal metal-superconductor (SNS) weak links, made of PbIn superconductor and Au metal. The maximum supercurrent reaches up to ${\sim}6{\mu}A$ at T = 2.3 K and the supercurrent persists even at T = 4.7 K. Magnetic field dependence of the critical current is consistent with a theoretical fit using the narrow junction model. The superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) was also fabricated using two PbIn-Au-PbIn junctions connected in parallel. Under perpendicular magnetic field, we clearly observed periodic oscillations of dV/dI with a period of magnetic flux quantum threading into the supercurrent loop of the SQUID. Our fabrication methods would provide an easy and simple way to explore the superconducting proximity effects without ultra-low-temperature cryostats.

We have fabricated and tested a simple circuit of the rapid single-flux-quantum(RSFQ) four-stage shift register using a single layer high-$T_c$ superconducting (HTS) $YBa_2Cu_3O_{7-x}$ (YBCO) thin film structure with 9 step-edge Josephson junctions. The circuit includes two read superconducting quantum interference devices(SQUID) and four stages. To establish a robust HTS RSFQ device fabrication process, we have focussed on the reproducible process of sharp and straight step-edge formation as well as the ratio of film thickness to step height, t/h. The spread of step-edge junction parameters was measured from each 13 junctions with t/h=1/3, 1/2, and 2/3 at various temperatures. We have demonstrated the simplified operation of the shift register at 65 K.
For the development of the 0.7 MJ small-sized superconducting magnetic energy storage (${\mu}$SMES) device, quench currents of a kA class superconducting cable were tested for various winding tensions because a dry superconducting coil is usually quenched by an abrupt heat pulse due to strand motions. The test coil similar to parameters of the optimally designed 0.7 MJ ${\mu}$SMES except a stored energy and a size was fabricated based on the test results of the kA class superconducting cable and tested. These experimental results show that the highly prestressed test coil has an excellent DC performance in spite of a dry type coil but its quench current is much degraded even at the low field ramping rate of about 0.4 T/s.
These days, SFCLs are being developed in order to limit fault current. However, the superconducting elements that limit the fault current have such problems as capacity increase and require auxiliary devices including cooling device. If devices that comprise the current power network can withstand fault current for at least one cycle, it is possible to limit the fault current with current limiting elements by bypassing it on the fault line. In this study, the fault current limiter was configured with current transformer, vacuum interrupter, and current limiting element. Through the experience, it was confirmed that the fault current was limited within one cycle. The superconducting element, as a current limiting element, limited the fault current by 80 % within one cycle from fault occurrence, and the passive element limited it more than 95 %. Also, through the comparison between resistance curve and power consumption curve, it was confirmed that the current limiting element using a passive element was more stable than the superconducting element that required capacity increase and other auxiliary devices. It was considered that the FCL proposed in this study could limit fault current stably within one cycle from fault occurrence by using the existing power technologies such as fault current detection and solenoid valve operating circuit.
