  • In the case of temperature control of air conditioning and refrigerating system, it is possible to operate the system continuously by controlling the cooling capacity of refrigerating machines. But on-off control system has been adopted for refrigerating system which has more large capacity than that required to remove the generated heat. In this on-off control system, it can be considered that there exists some optimum condition for the refrigerating capacity, operating cycle, running hour, and the temperature difference between thermostat setting value and real one. In this paper, an equation was derived to express the temperature variation of the refrigerated object (Nybrine) and later two evaluating functions were derived. One is for the temperature difference and another is for operating cycle and running hour. The weighted sum of these two functions is defined as the criterion function for the evaluation of the control performance of the system, and then the optimum running condition is investigated in the sense of minimizing the criterion function. Experiments showed that the heat balance equation derived for the temperature variation and the estimation of the time constant of the refrigerated system are appropriate. By conclusion, if a proper weighting factor D is selected, the optimum conditions exist for the refrigerating capacity, running hour, and operating cycle in the on-off temperature control of the refrigerating system.

  • Patterns of flowering periods of Ben Lawers, Eastern suburbs of Melbourne, and Tasmanian floras are compared. The total sum of each flowering period of the following floras are gradually increased from Ben Lawers to Tasmania and Eastern subarbs of Melbourne. These patterns seem to be related with the factors of temperature. A peak of the flowering periods of Ben Lawers flora occur' in July, while Eastern suburbs of Melbourne in October, and Tasmania in November to Decomber. The patterns of these flowering periods are characteristic of and divided into two categories, northern arctic and southern temperaturate hemispheric types.

  • A new paradigm for the viscosity of fluid is presented by considering the fact that the viscosity is equal to the shear stress divided by the shear rate. The shear stress is obtained from the sum of kinetic and internal pressures of fluid, and the shear rate is found from the phonon velocity divided by the mean free path of the phonon. The calculated viscosities for various simple substances are in excellent agreements with those of the observed data through the wide temperature range covered both of liquid and gas phase.

  • Seed production and germination could be influenced by some factors. The picking time and climate factors are regarded as the elements to obtain sound seeds. We have observed the seed productivity and germination of seeds from trees of Chamaecyparis obtusa selected in a clonal seed orchard. Depending on picking time, various shapes from liquid material, something jellied to the fully matured one were observed. Germination aspects varied throughout the test days. After 20days of seeding in a glass petri-dish, germinal apparatuses appeared from the all seeds which had been picked from after at the end of August. The highest germination rate of about 30% was observed from the seeds picked from $20^{th}$ of September and $10^{th}$ of October. Seed production was about two times higher in 2005 than in 2006 and the average germination rate was also higher in 2005. We have also analyzed the effects of climatic factors about two consecutive years on seed productivity. Among the climatic factors, monthly sum of temperature and of precipitation were the main factors for maturation of Chamaecyparis obtusa seeds.

  • Specific heat of a crystal is the sum of electronic specific heat, which is the specific heat of conduction electrons, and lattice specific heat, which is the specific heat of the lattice. Since properties such as crystal structure and Debye temperature do not change even in the superconducting state, the lattice specific heat may remain unchanged between the normal and the superconducting state. The difference of specific heat between the normal and superconducting state may be caused only by the electronic specific heat difference between the normal and superconducting states. Critical temperature, at which transition occurs, becomes lower than $T_{c0}$ under the influence of a magnetic field. It is well known that specific heat also changes abruptly at this critical temperature, but magnetic field dependence of jump of specific heat has not yet been developed theoretically. In this paper, specific heat jump of superconducting crystals at low temperature is derived as an explicit function of applied magnetic field H by using the thermodynamic relations of A. C. Rose-Innes and E. H. Rhoderick. The derived specific heat jump is compared with experimental data for superconducting crystals of $MgCNi_3$, $LiTi_2O_4$ and $Nd_{0.5}Ca_{0.5}MnO_3$. Our specific heat jump function well explains the jump up or down phenomena of superconducting crystals.

  • Multilayer ceramic capacitors(MLCC) were prepared by laminating the layer of composition with dif-ferent Curie temperature to improve temperature coefficient in the Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 binary system. Green sheet was formed by tape casting using Pb(Mg1/3Nb2/3)O3-PbTiO3 and PbTiO3 synthesized with solid state reaction of PBO. Nb2O5 MgO and TiO2. Green sheet with electrode of 70Ag-30Pd was laminated under 300 kg/cm2 at 70$^{\circ}C$ and sintered at 1100$^{\circ}C$ for 2hr. Curie temperatues for MLCC with 10 layers of pure PMN and 0.9PMN-0.1PT were lowered to -22$^{\circ}C$ and 36$^{\circ}C$ respectively. MLCC with 7 layers of PMN and 3 layers of 0.9PMN-0.1PT showed nearly zero temperature coefficient of capacitance in the range of -20∼30$^{\circ}C$ and sum of dissipation factor of each layer.

  • This study examines how exercise habits affect human thermoregulatory responses. A total of 14 healthy male college students participated in this study as subjects: 8 students who exercised regularly (REG) and 6 students who did not (IREG). First, there were no significant differences between REG and IREG in rectal and mean skin temperatures. Second, the general thermal sensation was "slightly warm" at the equilibrium state and "cool" during body cooling in both groups with no significant differences between the two groups. This implies that exercise habits did not affect the subjective thermal sensation under this study's environmental conditions. Third, there were no significant correlations between the preferred temperature and related variables such as rectal and mean skin temperature changes, oxygen uptake, and the general thermal sensation in REG. However, there were significant correlations between the preferred temperature and the mean skin temperature change (p<0.05) and oxygen uptake(p<0.01) in IREG. In sum, these results suggest weak effects of exercise habits on daily life at the individual level. Therefore, future research should verify this study's results under controlled conditions such as cooling intensity and durations.

  • In this paper, course structure and course width were studied among the main performances of the system to derive the required performance of the modulation index, output power, and phase change specifications of the instrument landing system (ILS) localizer power amplifier. To satisfy the course structure's deviation standard (± 5 uA), the difference in depth of modulation (DDM) deviation standard of the carrier with sideband (CSB) amplifier was standardized to ± 1 uA(0.001 DDM). CSB 30 W power amplifier was designed, and through the modulation compensation circuit, sum in depth of modulation (SDM) is 40% ± 0.1% and DDM is ± 0.0005 DDM in the operating output range(45 dBm ~ 35 dBm). In addition, the course width and displacement sensitivity specifications were analyzed through simulation, and the ± 0.1° change applied during comissioning inspection, which is the most stringent standard, was applied. The output variation of the suppressed with sideband only ( SBO) amplifier was ± 2 mW or less, The phase was standardized to within ± 3 ° and the characteristics were satisfied. By applying a compensation circuit according to output power and temperature, stable modulation index, output, and phase characteristics were obtained.

  • Combined radiative-convective heat transfer in a hot gas tube flow has been investigated numerically and experimentally. In the numerical analysis, a standard k-.epsilon. model is used for the evaluation of turbulent shear stresses and spherical harmonics method with the Weighted Sum of Gray Gases Model for the solution of radiative transfer equation. In the experimental study measured are the velocity and temperature of the hot gas flow generated by the propane gas combustion, and tude wall heat flux distribution. Numerical results are compared with experimental ones and it is confirmed that P-3 provides quite reliable results in the analysis of the combined radiation-convection system.

  • This study proposes a low order dynamic model of a building system in order to predict thermal behavior within a building and its energy consumption. The building system includes a thermally well-insulated room and an electric heater. It is modeled by a second order lumped RC thermal network based on the thermal-electrical analogy. In order to identify unknown parameters of the model, an experimental procedure is firstly detailed. Then, the different linear parametric models (ARMA, ARX, ARMAX, BJ, and OE models) are recalled. The parameters of the parametric models are obtained by the least square approach. The obtained parameters are interpreted to the parameters of the physically based model in accordance with their relationship. Afterwards, the obtained models are implemented in Matlab/Simulink(R) and are evaluated by the mean of the sum of absolute error (MAE) and the mean of the sum of square error (MSE) with the variable of indoor temperature of the room. Quantities of electrical energy and converted thermal energy are also compared. This study will permit a further study on Model Predictive Control adapting to the proposed model in order to reduce energy consumption of the building.
