A Study on the Guidelines for Demand Factor of Electrical Facilities in Subway Stations (지하철 역사전기설비의 수용률 기준설정에 관한 연구)

  • The electric facilities for subway stations require reliable and safe electricity in spite of their load increases rapidly. Nevertheless, Korea Electrical Safety Corporation reports that the accidents of independent electric facilities increased greatly from 4,632 cases in 1998 to 6,024 in 1999 and 6,776 cases in 2000, while the ratio of the accidents related with transformers grew gradually. As it is, it is deemed very important to minimize the spreading effects of the electric system accidents and thereby, enhance reliability of the electric supply as well as its safety. According to the fact that the electric facilities for subway stations are important for the public safety and conveniences, it should be careful to set their capacity instead of simply applying the general capacity standard to them, and thereby, improve their economy as well as prevent their accidents. With such a basic conception in mind, this study is aimed at analyzing the characteristics of the electric load in the subway stations and thereupon, suggesting some guidelines for setting of the electric facility capacity for subway stations in terms of optimal operation and safety.

  • In present, most of metallic structures(gas pipeline, oil pipeline, water pipeline, etc) are running parallel with subway and power line in seoul. Moreover subway system and power line make a stray current due to electrical corrosion on metallic structures. The owner of metallic structures has a burden of responsibility for the protection of corrosion and the prevention against big accident such as gas explosion or soil pollution and so on. So, they have to measure and analyze the data about P/S(Pipe to Soil) potential, amplitude of stray current, point of source of stray current and so. In this paper, results of development about data logger apparatus for measurement stray current of subway and power line are presented.

  • Many people transfer from the automobile to the subway because of increasing in oil price and improvement of mass transit system of Seoul Metropolitan City. But Seoul Metropolitan Subway have brought out passengers discomfort because it is more crowded over the appropriateness because of very high utilization though it is highly technically facilitated. This study deals with the development and simulation study of subway train simulator. We analyzed the simulation results considering crowdedness after we defined the concept of crowdedness.

  • Development of underground space in urban area has a huge amount of potential to ease the limitations on the land use and the efficiency especially in urban area. Considering public transportation in urban area, subway system could be one of the most efficient and practical approaches. Subsequently this leads the public to have more chances to experience the indoor air quality (IAQ) in subway systems. In this study, it was aimed to produce useful data for the IAQ control in subway environments, Specifically the train-induced wind has been investigated by means of field survey and analysis. The recent updates including the quantified characteristics of train-induced wind are presented in this paper.

Durability Study of Subway Brake Disc and Wheel-type Brake (지하철의 브레이크 디스크와 차륜방식브레이크의 내구성 연구)

  • In this study, as part of the subway braking system, the structural analysis was performed with the fatigue analysis by comparing subway brake disc and wheel-type brake. When structural analysis was performed, it was possible to verify that the wheel-type brake were higher than the brake discs in case of total deformation. As the same loading conditions were given to the subway brake disc and wheel-type brake, wheel-type brakes was shown to have more deformation than brake disk but lower damage than the subway brake disc. Comparing with each fatigue loading condition, the maximum fatigue life for 'Sample history' is found to be about 60 times longer than for 'SAE bracket history'.

Regional Groundwater Flow Characteristics due to the Subway System in Seoul, Korea (지하철에 의한 서울특별시 광역 지하수 유동 특성)

  • Hydrogeologic environment of the Mega City such as Seoul, suffers from rapid changes caused by urbanization, construction of underground subway or buildings, and contaminant loading by diverse anthropogenic activities. Understanding the present condition of groundwater environment and water budget is necessary to prevent natural and manmade disasters and to prepare for sustainable water resource management of urban environment. In this study, regional groundwater flow and water budget status of Seoul was analyzed using numerical simulation. Modeling result indicated that groundwater level distribution of Seoul generally followed the topography, but the significant decreases in groundwater level were observed around the subway network. Steady-state water balance analysis showed groundwater recharge by rainfall and leakage from the water supply network was about 550,495 m3/day. Surface water inflow and baseflow rate via Han River and major streams accounted for 799,689 m3/day and 1,103,906 m3/day, respectively. Groundwater usage was 60,945 m3/day, and the total groundwater leakage along the subway lines amounted to 114,746 m3/day. Modeling results revealed that the subway could decrease net groundwater baseflow by 40%. Our study result demonstrated that the subway system can have a significant influence on the groundwater environment of Seoul.

  • Nowaday, the local governments eager to change their transport system aiming for public transport oriented one. However, it is more important to change the land use system in the catchment areas of public transport in order to enhance its usage sustainably for the long run. This research aims to seek maximal spatial extent of the catchment areas of the Seoul Metropolitan Subway in consideration of its urban spatial structure in order to accommodate the potential users living around the subway stations. For this task the empirical data of the household travel survey for the Seoul Metropolitan Area conducted 2002 were analysed. It was founded that the walking access times to the subway stations, which can represent their spatial extents, are related to their travel times, but differently according to their given positions in the urban spatial structure. The characteristics of subway commuters also affect them with the conditions. It is to be expected that the results of this research can contribute to an enhancement of its usage by applying to land-use policies of the catchment areas.

  • Currently, large-scale, deep construction is being carried out adjacent to subway tracks in korea. when excavating adjacent to each other, it is very important to ensure the safety of earth retaining structures and underground structures. therefore, we are managing the safety of the subway by introducing an automated measurement system. deformation of the subway track during adjacent excavation may affect train running stability. this is a factor that can be linked to train derailments. however, current subway track safety evaluation using automated measurement systems relies only on the maximum value of measured data. therefore, a method to improve the usability of automated measurement system results is needed. in this study, we utilized a technique that can quantitatively evaluate the measurement results of a large amount of subway track deformation. a safety evaluation was conducted on subway track deformation due to adjacent excavation using a vast amount of data using probabilistic statistical analysis techniques.

Measurement and Analysis of Propagation Characteristics in Curved Subway Tunnel Environments (곡선형 지하철 터널환경에서 전파 특성의 측정과 분석)

  • In this paper, we measured and analyzed propagation characteristics in a subway tunnel that is recently increasingly becoming one of the radio communication environments. The measurements are carried out in a subway tunnel with frequency bands of 2.45㎓ and 5.8㎓. The length of tunnel we used for this study is 175m of LOS (Line-of-sight) and 270m of NLOS (Non Line-of-Sight). The subway tunnel is curved and its cross section is horseshoe type. The measurement systems we employ in this study are a narrow-band system and a wide-band system. The narrow-band system is used to get path loss measurement and the wide-band system is used to figure out delay profile measurement. In particular, the wide-band system consists of 1023 length PN sequence generator using a chip rate of 80MHz based on a sliding correlation technique. The omni-directional antennas and directional antennas are used to analyze propagation characteristics for beam type of antenna. The path loss displays only pure path loss of a tunnel environment. The delay profile indicates the mean excess delay and RMS (root mean square) delay spread.

  • The noise of the subway has become a social issue and includes very complex reasons. The friction between rail and train wheel is the most important reason of the noise. In this study, we developed MFI(Multi Fluid Injection) System which sprays the mixed fluid(water, anticorrosive and lubricant) on the rail when the train is approaching to reduce the friction. To verify the system's effect, we measured the internal and external noise of the running train. The measured and analyzed results show that MFI system reduce the noise of the running subway.
