Correlation of $CO_2$ Concentration with Number of Passengers and Tunnel Regions in the KTX Cabin (KTX 객실의 $CO_2$ 농도와 승객 수 및 터널구간과의 상관관계)

  • With increasing concerns of indoor air quality, $CO_2$ concentration in the public transportation, such as train, bus, and subway, draws big interests. The $CO_2$ concentration in the indoor air is regarded as index of ventilation status rather than that of adverse health effect. In this study, we measured the time-series of $CO_2$ concentrations in the KTX cabin during the journey of Gyongbu-line (Seoul-Busan) and Honam-line (Seoul-Mokpo) with the number of passengers on board. At the same time, the concentration of particulate matter (PM), temperature, humidity and gaseous pollutants including HCHO and VOCs were monitored. It is found that the $CO_2$ concentration was correlated linearly with number of passengers and was highly correlated with tunnel regions where the ventilation unit (flap) was closed.

  • The purpose of this study is to deeply understand consumer characteristics of department stores in pusan to cope with intensive competition of distribution channels. To complete this purpose, literature study was done through secondary data, than statistical research was conducted from 23th April to 17th May, 2001, through interview with 600 consumers of Hyundai department store in Pusan. Consumers of department stores earn more money than average, and they purchase fashion goods rather than necessities at department stores. Thus to deal with discount store, department stores need to lay stress on prestigious image and fashion goods. And to deal with other competitive department stores, they have to develope more distinctive and superior marketing mix than counter part. These days distribution situations of pusan are changed owing to prohibition of shuttle bus, opening of second section of subway line 2, and opening of Lotte department store at Dongrae. Thus departments stores also have to investigate the change of shopping behavior of consumers.

  • This paper suggest away to maintain constant power through trolley wire by transferring increased line voltage to the AC main line while changing the mode from Converter(Forward) to Inverter(Reverse) when the line voltage is increased due to regenerative power when the train stops, This paper suggests a Double Converter DC substation that can create regenerative power when the train stops reusable. We also proposed using a simulation tool, the optimal Thyrister firing angle that can minimize the undershoot and overshoot that occurs when transferring the mode from Converter to Inverter for quality improvement of DC voltage in the Double Converter in the DC substation from the Busan Urban Subway.

  • Radar interferometric phase is sensitive to both ground topography and coherent surface displacement. The basic tactics of differential interferometric synthetic aperture radar (DInSAR) technique are to separate the two effects. Applications of DInSAR to Duk-Po area in Busan were studied. In the study area, an abrupt subsidence, possibly caused by sub-way construction, was observed by JERS-1 SAR interferometry. Differential interferograms were generated using twenty-three JERS-1 SAR data acquired between April 24, 1992, and August 7, 1998. Because the area is relatively flat with little topographic relief the topographic effects were not removed. A phase filtering and interferogram techniques were applied to increase fringe clarity as well as to decrease decorrelation error. The stacking improves the quality of interferograms especially when the displacement is discontinuous. The interferograms clearly show the evidence of subsidence along Duk-Po subway railroad. These results demonstrate that the interferogram stacking technique can improve the detectability of radar interferometry to an abrupt displacement and DInSAR is useful to geological engineering applications.

  • Recently, so as to solve the urban transportation problem the LRT(Light Rail Transit) system has been studied on the essential technology and the engineering know-how, which lead lower construction cost and higher reliability. The localization development of rubber tired AGT(Automatic Guided Trainsit) system has performed from 1999 to 2004, as a national project of the Minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs. For the application of the rubber tired AGT system in Busan Subway 3-2 Line, this study is focused on the reliability of aluminium profiles vehicle carbody and the establishment of the test and evaluation technologies. In this paper, 3D modeling simulation was applied to the load test of aluminium vehicle carbody. The reliability of the vehicle carbody was estimated as the fatigue test of welded aluminium profiles. From the test and simulation results, it could be concluded that the developed rubber tired AGT shows a good structural reliability and integrity.

Groundwater Balance in Urban Area (도시지역의 지하수수지)

  • The study analyzes groundwater balance with regard to the water recharge and discharge which contain urbanization components in Suyeong-gu, Busan. It also verifies the reliability and accuracy improvement on the analysis of the balance. The result of the study is viewed as preliminary data which are useful to develop, utilize and manage groundwater. The average quantity of groundwater recharge is 6,014.1 $m^3$/day in the research area during the last ten year period(from 1998 to 2007). The outflow from drainage areas to rivers and coasts is 149.3 $m^3$/day, the inflow from rivers and coasts to drainage area is 439.9 $m^3$/day. The use of the water is 4,243.0 $m^3$/day. The outflow caused by subway in line No.2 and No.3 through Suyeong-gu and the one by building an underground electric complex is 1,500.0 $m^3$/day. The leakage of water works is 6514.9 $m^3$/day. The inflow and outflow of sewerage is 5082.2 $m^3$/day from groundwater to sewer. The amount of groundwater recharge, the inflow from rivers and coasts to drainage area, and the leakage of water works belong to the amount of groundwater inflow and the total amount is 12,968.9 $m^3$/day. The amount of outflow from drainage area to rivers and coasts, the use of groundwater, outflow by subway and underground electric complex tunnel and the amount of inflow of the water to sewerage belong to the amount of outflow of groundwater and the sum amount is 13,031.5 $m^3$/day. The gap between the amount of inflow and outflow of groundwater is 62.6 $m^3$/day, which is considered to reflect the trend that the short term drop in the amount of rainfall results in the amount of groundwater recharge and that the amount of outflow from drainage area to rivers and coasts decreases.

An Impact of Gas Prices on Transit Demand Using a Time-series Analysis and a Regression Analysis (시계열 및 회귀분석을 활용한 휘발유가격의 광역권별·수단별 대중교통수요 영향력 비교분석)

  • Depending most of its energy sources on foreign countries, Korea efforts to reduce energy consumption in transportation. While studies on the relationship between gas price and transportation demand are many in number, most previous studies have focused on automobile and Seoul. This study analyzes the impact of gas price on transit (bus and subway) demand using monthly data and for various metropolitan areas (Seoul, Busan, Daejeon, Daegu and Gwangju). The research utilizes a time-series model and a multiple regression model, and calculates modal demand elasticities of gas price. The result shows that elasticities of subway demand with respect to gas price is higher than those of bus demand. In addition, elasticities of predominantly automobile cities are more likely to be more sensitive to gas price than those of cities with well-structured transit system.

Analysis of air pollution in subway area of Busan Metropolitan City (부산광역시 지하철역 지하공간의 대기오염 특성)

  • The purpose of this study is designed to estimate the air quality of subway stations that have the underground platforms in Pusan Metropolitan City, from September to November 2000, over seven times. The subjects include Yonsan-dong station, Somyon station, Pusan station, Nampo-dong station, and Tushil station. The samplings were conducted at three points of each station, i.e. gate, ticket gates, and platforms. The major materials for analysis were CO, NO, NO$_2$, and $O_3$. The experiment was conducted at 7:00 pm with KIMOTO HS-seven Handy sampler and Tedlar Bag of SKC INC(U.S.A). In order to more fully understand station environments, we also measured temperature at each point. The results showed that $O_3$ average concentration at Yonsan-dong station was higher than others with 38~51 ppb. The average concentration of NO was high at ticket gate and platform at Somyon station(119 ppb, 122 ppb), Nampo-dong station(102 ppb, 100 ppb). These results show that the air pollution of stations with underground shopping malls was higher than others. At Somyon station having a junction station, NO and NO$_2$ concentration level of platform-2(noncrowded) was higher than platform-1(crowded). This is most likely due to the accumulation of air pollutants and inadequate ventilation systems.

A survey on the EMF Levels of Study and Electric Appliances in Korea (국내 전철 및 가전제품을 대상으로 한 전자장 수준 실태조사)

  • The purposes of this study was to collect, analyze, and describe the MF exposure levels from subways in Korea and to measure and evaluate the MF levels generated from electric appliances used at general homes. The target subway lines were Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 to Line 8, Bundang Line, Incheon Line, Daegu Line, Gwangju Line, and Busan Line 1 and Line 2. We measured at each station in those subway lines and, all the train types (pantograph-equipped, motor-equipped, and common), and platform types(facing and isolating) were investigated by the distance(80, 200, 400 cm) from the train on 19 targeted subway lines using 3 magnetic field measuring devices (EMDEXII, Enertech Co.) during the survey from January till October, 2004. On the other hand, the levels of the 60Hz magnetic fields generated from 14 items of home electric appliances such as electric blankets, hair dryers, electric razors, etc. were measured at 10 general homes using 5 EMDEXII meters with a sampling interval of 1.5 second by the distance(surface, 30, 50, 100, 300cm ) from the target electric appliances. The survey results in the whole subway lines examined in this study were as follows; Seoul Metropolitan Line 4 using AC(alternating current) power source showed the highest mean value of $2.85{\mu}T$, followed by Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 running between Seoul and Incheon using AC($2.78{\mu}T$), Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 between Seoul and Uijongbu using AC($2.73{\mu}T$), Bundang Line using AC($1.79{\mu}T$), Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 connected from Yongsan using AC($1.67{\mu}T$), Seoul Metropolitan Line 1 between Seoul and Suwon using AC($0.79{\mu}T$), and so on. In general, the intensity of the magnetic field in the subway systems in Korea was significantly higher when using AC($2.14{\pm}0.91{\mu}T$) than when using DC($0.29{\pm}0.44{\mu}T$) power source. Among the home electric appliances examined, microwave ovens showed the highest mean value of $7.69{\mu}T$, followed by hair dryers($6.47{\mu}T$), vacuum cleaners($5.27{\mu}T$), televisions ($2.26{\mu}T$), electric blankets($1.38{\mu}T$), personal computers ($0.81{\mu}T$), and so on. Two items of electric appliances showed the excess value of $0.2{\mu}T$ at the distance of 30cm in the MF exposure level; electric razors $1.58{\pm}2.13{\mu}T$ and vacuum cleaners $0.48{\pm}0.44{\mu}T$. As a whole, this study showed a tendency that the shift of the MF levels according to the increase of distance from the electric appliances was lower than those of the results surveyed in UK and USA. As a result, this study is expected to suggest meaningful data for the future study in exposure assessment of magnetic fields and for the establishment of guidelines for subways and electric appliances in Korea. More detailed and large scaled exposure assessment studies should be performed continuously to get the various and useful information on health risk assessment of MFs in Korea.

Field Measurements of Ground Movements Around Tunnel (현장계측에 의한 터널주변지반의 변위연구)

  • Generally, ground settlements and lateral displacements are accompanied by underground excavation associated with open-cut or tunnling. These ground movements cause a harmful influence upon nearby super.structures and sub-structures. Occasionally, the ground movements may pose serious problems as the function of the nearby structures may be disrupted. Therefore, prior to the subway construction in an urban area, it is necessary to identify the causes of ground settlements and estimating the extent St the magnitude of ground movements since any potential damage to the nearby structures such as gas lines, water mains, high buildings and cultural assets must be assessed. The research was performed mainly on ground movements such as surface settlements, lateral displacements, subsurface settlements and crown settlements to predict the maximum settlement and settlement zone, and to identify the causes of ground settlements in NATM sections of Busan subway. As a result, it was found that lateral distribution of settlements could be approximated reasonably by a Gaussian normal probability curve and longitudinal distribution of settlements by a cumulative Gaussian probability curve, and that the early closure of temporary invert was very important to minimize ground settlements.
