  • The most crucial requirement of a power system is o supply quality electric energy to customers without interrution. This problem is directly related to reliability of power system. Reliability assessment of power system has been an important topic for the past several decades. This paper deals with reliability assessment of a 154kV power substation n KEPCO. In his paper, exponential distribution is used to calculate reliablity index. The failure rate data that are utilited for reliablity index based on the realistic system.   • This paper focuses on emergency source and control of substation against the consequence of power system breakdown or outage. the aim of the paper is to provide ideas and guidance concerning methods of using AC/DC combined emergency source for power system control to restore power system after unforseen events, such as outages caused by natural disaster. so the emergency source and lamp is very important for restoration control of substation after outage. therefore, this paper proposes countermeasure and method for security of substation emergency source and lamp which is restored at breakdown.

  • In order to evaluate the nominal rating of breakers in distribution system due to the increased capacity and operating conditions of power transformers in 154 kV substation, the fault currents in distribution system were calculated by the conventional method and simulations of PSCAD/EMTDC program. Consequently, under the condition of the parallel operation of transformers, the fault currents exceed the nominal current of the breakers in some areas. Without NGR at the secondary neutral of the transformer, the current of single line-to-ground fault was bigger than that of 3-phase fault. Therefore, the results clearly show that the measures to limit the fault currents in distribution system are needed when the increased capacity of power transformers is introduced into 154 kV substation.

  • An urban railway power substation consists of three thyristor dual converters. Two converters are connected to up and down trolley line to supply the electric energy or feed the regenerative energy back to the distribution. When the two converters break down, the remaining converter is used in an emergency. One thyristor dual converter system (TDCS) manages the energy of two or three railway stations. If the TDCS fails, the trains stop operating. To solve the problem, this paper proposes the three parallel operation control algorithm of thyristor dual converter system using the emergency converter. The broken TDCS can be replaced by the emergency converter in other TDCS. The effectiveness of this proposed control is verified by simulation.

  • 22.9 kV HTS cable and FCL will be installed in 154 kV Icheon substation. It is necessary to design a protection system of the substation for a successful application of the HTS devices. This paper proposes a new power protection system for the application of 22.9 kV HTS cable and SFCL to 154 kV Icheon substation in Korea.

Real-Time Bus Reconfiguration Strategy for the Fault Restoration of Main Transformer Based on Pattern Recognition Method (자동화된 변전소의 주변압기 사고복구를 위한 패턴인식기법에 기반한 실시간 모선재구성 전략 개발)

  • This paper proposes an expert system based on the pattern recognition method which can enhance the accuracy and effectiveness of real-time bus reconfiguration strategy for the transfer of faulted load when a main transformer fault occurs in the automated substation. The minimum distance classification method is adopted as the pattern recognition method of expert system. The training pattern set is designed MTr by MTr to minimize the searching time for target load pattern which is similar to the real-time load pattern. But the control pattern set, which is required to determine the corresponding bus reconfiguration strategy to these trained load pattern set is designed as one table by considering the efficiency of knowledge base design because its size is small. The training load pattern generator based on load level and the training load pattern generator based on load profile are designed, which are can reduce the size of each training pattern set from max L/sup (m+f)/ to the size of effective level. Here, L is the number of load level, m and f are the number of main transformers and the number of feeders. The one reduces the number of trained load pattern by setting the sawmiller patterns to a same pattern, the other reduces by considering only load pattern while the given period. And control pattern generator based on exhaustive search method with breadth-limit is designed, which generates the corresponding bus reconfiguration strategy to these trained load pattern set. The inference engine of the expert system and the substation database and knowledge base is implemented in MFC function of Visual C++ Finally, the performance and effectiveness of the proposed expert system is verified by comparing the best-first search solution and pattern recognition solution based on diversity event simulations for typical distribution substation.

A Study on Loop operation of 154kV Substation Distribution line for Stable power supply (안정적 전력공급을 위한 154kV 변전소 배전선로간 연계운영에 관한 연구)

  • For a stable supply of electric power, periodical inspection of the electric facilities and repair of the distribution lines are required. In case of any unexpected accidents, looped operation among distribution lines may be necessary in order to supply electricity through the sound lines, separating the faulted lines. As a result of this study, it was found that normal looped operation became impossible when phase difference of the looped distribution lines is more than 3 degrees compared with the voltage supply of the distribution lines. Therefore, for a stable supply of electric power to Chuncheon, it is judged to be desirable that looped operation of the distribution lines coming from the same substation M. Tr Bank shall be performed in principle and in case of looped operation with the substation of different system, looped operation among the lines shall be performed after voltage regulation of the substation M. Tr Bank, maintaining similar voltages and load supply volume in order to avoid phase difference through checking the operation conditions of each substation M. Tr Banks. And when looped operation among the distribution lines is scheduled, voltage regulation schedule has been established so far by calculating maximum supply volume through the transformer of the substation and the maximum load volume through the distribution lines but in the future, looped operation of the distribution lines shall be carried out by removing voltage difference with regulating tap or load of the surrounding transformers, with giving prior notice to the substation operators.

  • This paper proposes coordinative control method between STATCOM installed within substation and other reactive power resources including Shunt Reactors and Shunt Capacitors and OLTC. Voltage/Reactive power control has various difficult aspects to control because of analysis and system dynamics error. This coordinative control method suggests practical algorithm regarding system voltage and reactive power status which is easy to implement in substation basis. In normal status, STATCOM-Shunts-OLTC are in operation. The proposed algorithm is tested and verified in EMTP/RV. And this is expected to be applied to control multiple reactive power devices combined with SCADA/EMS system.

  • In order to verify a substation automation system based on IEC 61850, Korea Electric Power Research Institute under the project related to SAS has constructed IED testing system, which consists of HMI, IED(Intelligent Electronic Device), network equipment, V/I generator, and performed a various of communication tests such as the interoperability test between two IEDs made by other vendors. The test was proceeded based on SCL(Substation Configuration Description Language). This paper presents ways and procedures to simulate those tests and solutions to clear up SCL based engineering problems and compatibility among the individual manufacture tools.
