  • Purpose: This study was aimed to evaluate the effects of substance abuse prevention education for middle school students in Busan. Method: The data were collected by a self-administered questionnaire before education and one month later. The whole subjects were 458 students in first grade of middle school. The data were analyzed using frequencies and difference t-test after classifying the whole into potential drug abuse group and not potential group. Results: The substance abuse prevention education was ineffective in the whole group and the potential group. However, in the not potential group, the increasing rate of SPDA(Screening scale for Potential Drug-use Adolescents) score in experimental group was less than in control group. Conclusion: The substance abuse prevention education was effective for the not potential drug abuse group. On the other hand, intensive long-term drug abuse treatment program was needed for the potential group.

  • The GLP contains specific language concerning characterization of the test, control and reference substances used in toxicity studies. This paper will describe and discuss what types of documents are required to support test/reference substance characterization under GLP system. The purpose of this article is to present an overview of data needed in the characterization package that will adequately define the substance. Most sponsors use a certificate of analysis (COA) to communicate the test sub-stance characterization status information to the contracting research organizations. The COA should provide the test $material^{\circ}{\phi}s$ characterization results, substance storage requirements, expiration dates, verification of the collection of the retention sample, archival location of the data to support the characterization and GLP compliance status of the characterization.

  • The subjects for this study consisted of 301 Korean-American students in grades 6 to 12. Findings of this study showed that most of the risk factors in all domains demonstrated a strong relationship to the use of alcohol, tobacco, and other illicit drugs. In the community domain the most common risk factor was "laws favorable toward drug use"(60.2%); this risk factor increased the odds of substance use by approximately 3 times. The protective factor, "opportunity for positive involvement" in school domain reported by 82% of the sample decreased the probability of substance use by 3 times. The percentage of students "resilient" on all protective factors in the family domain was much lower than that of protective factors in other domains. The strongest predictors of substance use were shown in the peer-individual domain.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop the framework for the relapse prevention program. The study examined interventional needs for a relapse prevention program among adult substance abusers. The total of 107 adult substance abusers were surveyed and asked about their interventional needs for the relapse prevention program. The questionnaire was developed by the researcher on the basis of several theories such as problem behavior theory, ecologica1-developmental theory, social support theory, and coping theory. Results showed that admit substance abusers wanted the program to deal with such issues related with individual, family, social skills, and drugs. The implications of study findings were discussed.

  • The chemical constituents of root bark of Acanthopanax sessiliflorum Seemann(Araliaceae) which is distributed in southern region of Korea are studied. The five kinds of chemical constituents are isolated from MeOH extract of root bark by column fractionation and purified by recrystallization. Substance $I{\sim}III$ were identified as stigmasterol, ${\beta}-sitosterol$ and campesterol. Substance IV is suggested as a lignan substance based on chemical and spectral discussions. The molecular formula of substance $V\;show\;C_{20}H_{18}O_6$ and its melting point is $120.5{\sim}121.5^{\circ}$. Due to the spectral data, it is confirmed that substance V is a (+) sesamin of lignan.

  • In the previous paper the biological characteristics and some reaction mechanisms of Astradix-P, yeaststatic substance, were reported. Especially yeaststatic activity of Astradix-P was anta-gonistically inhibited by alkaline amino acids, arginine, lysine and histidine, which were added as a nitrogen source in the yeast growing medium. In this paper the effects of alkaline nitrogen containing substance and several vitamins on the yeaststatic activity were investigated. The antagonistic action of alkaline nitrogen containing substance; adenine and vitamins; thiamine, riboflavin, pyridoxin, cobalamin, nicotinic acid, folic acid, biotin, p-aminobenzoic acid, inositol, and pantothenic acid to Astradix-P were not observed, thus evidencing that the yeaststatic activity of Astradix-P was not inhibited by a alkaline nitrogen containing substance and several vitamins.

  • In this study, natural substance and mineral materials was used for architectural interior wallpaper. Because natural substance and minerals are environment-friendly material with moisture adsorption and desorption properties. Natural substance and mineral materials was evaluated in moisture adsorption and desorption properties. Also, in the diatomite, the pores were observed on SEM photographs. Thus, it is supposed that moisture adsorption and desorption properties were influenced by the microstructure of the pore. The wallpaper according to the ratio of the mixture was analyzed for physical properties and moisture adsorption & desorption properties. As a result, we developed a wallpaper having excellent hygrothermal performance.

  • Purpose: This study aimed to identify the general characteristics and health behaviors of students with non-therapeutic substance use. Methods: This secondary data analysis used data from the 17th Korea Youth Risk Behavior Web-based Survey (2021). Analyses of the 54,848 adolescents used descriptive statisics, the Rao-Scott χ2 test, and logistic regression. Results: The risk factors for substance use among students were anxiety, loneliness, living separately from family, suicidal ideation, e-cigarette use, and high stress. Conclusion: The findings help identify the risk factors for non-therapeutic drug use among adolescents. Since South Korea does not have a drug prevention program for its adolescent population, an educational plan based on these findings could help prevent adolescent substance abuse.

  • In the study on the mineral substance used in Dong Eu Bo Gam(range of 'Sin') and the recent prescription of china, the results were as follows. 1. According to Dong Eu Bo Gam, Realgar was used for Sa-Su most often and Gold-leaf, Succinum, especially Cinnabaris were used for amnesia, epilepsy, a general term of manic-depressive psychosis too. The most kinds of mineral substance used for epilepsy. 2. According to recent prescription of china, Fossilia Ossis Mastodi got the most, and Succinum, Cinnabaris, Lapis Chloriti, Haematitum, Magnetitum, Gypsum Fibrosum, Fossilia Dentis Mastodi, iron powder were used frequently. For external application, Sulfur was too. And most kinds of mineral substance were used for epilepsy and schizophrenia. 3. Realgar, Gold-leaf, Succinum, Cinnabaris, Lapis Chloriti, Haematitum, Magnetitum, Gypsum Fibrosum, Fossilia Dentis Mastodi, iron powder have drug effect for mental disease, especially for epilepsy induced by terror. 4. For Application of mineral substance, it should be considered that the chemical elements of mineral substance act on human body. 5. For drug effect, it is important to make clear of original prescription.
