  • Today modern people have been searching on managing themselves in easy ways without side-effects to lead a healthy and quality life, accordingly concerns about complementary and alternative medicine have been increasing. The scientific term' complementary and alternative medicine' has been originally used in the US and has become the general term for natural treatment of medical methods, which can be suggested as an alternative solution to modern medical problems. There should be a study based on users' subjectivity to reinvigorate complementary and alternative medicine more than it does now. The purpose of this study is to offer basic materials when assessing practical applications on complementary and alternative medicine using the Q method which is subjective pattern analysis, help understand features of complementary and alternative therapy according to patterns, and find out preferences for patterns of complementary and alternative therapy. As a result patterns of complementary and alternative medicine were classified into three types. Firstly, type I prefers to biological/herbal treatment. Secondly, type II prefers to mixed treatments. Thirdly, type III prefers to manual healing.

  • People are surrounded with numerous sounds. The sound is generated from nature and people. For example, the sound enables people or animal responsive to instinctive action. Music or fine arts are presented differently by its distinctive medium. On the other hand, those art forms are similar in a way that people uses right side of brain and intuitions for creative effects. Conjunctions between sounds and visual arts have been progressed to data. From art forms in subjective views to art forms using high technology such as the computer, experiments for sounds visualization are practiced constantly. For that reason, intrinsic attributes of sounds in design area and distinctive qualities are discussed in this study. With respect to existing category of studies and consideration of the tendency in recent researches, the object is to propose direction for the study in regards to methodology of design, which is reconstructing visualized expression.

  • In this paper, we propose an unsharp masking algorithm using Laplacian as a weight map for the signal structure and a gamma transformation algorithm using image mean intensity as a weight map for mean intensity. The conventional weight map based on the patch has a disadvantage in that the brightness in the image is shifted to one side in the signal structure and the mean intensity region. So the detailed information is lost. In this paper, we improved the detail using unsharp masking of patch unit and proposed linearly combined the gamma transformed values using the average brightness values of the global and local images. Through the proposed algorithm, the detail information such as edges are preserved and the subjective image quality is improved by adjusting the brightness of the light. Experiment results show that the proposed algorithm show better performance than conventional algorithm.

  • In Oriental medicine, the subjective process of diagnosis often makes it difficult to explain the indications objectively, in spite of its excellent therapeutic value. The authors' objective Was to present more objective indications of Chongpesagan-tang(淸肺瀉肝湯), a prescription predominantly used to treat stroke in Oriental Medicine, We analyzed clinical symptoms of 105 patients who were hospitalized in the Department of Circulatory Internal Medicine, College of Oriental Medicine. Kyung Hee University, Seoul, who were given Chongpesagan-tang and improved without side effects, The symptoms analyzed included general symptoms which are usually checked in the process of Oriental Medicine Diagnosis: the so called Four Diagnosis(四診). We rearranged and selected symptoms which were predominantly found among other symptoms. We found some symptoms of which the patients frequently complained: sweating 84%, red tongue 74%, white tongue coat 65%, constipation 35%, tight pulse 21%, headache 20%, thirst 20%, chest discomport 17%, etc, We believe that these suggest an objective indication of Chongpesagantang.

  • Background Major problems with cervicoplasty by direct skin excision include the subjective nature of skin markings preoperatively and the confusing array of procedures offered. This technique incorporates curved incisions, resulting in a wave-like scar, which is why the procedure is called a "wave-plasty". Methods This prospective study includes 37 patients who underwent wave-plasty procedures from 2004 to 2015. Skin pinching technique was used to mark the anterior neck preoperatively in a reproducible fashion. Intra-operatively, redundant skin was excised, along with excess fat when necessary, and closed to form a wave-shaped scar. Patients were asked to follow up at 1 week, 6 weeks, and 6 months after surgery. Results The mean operation time was 70.8 minutes. The majority (81.3%) was satisfied with their progress. On a scale of 1 to 10 (1 being the worst, and 10 being the best), the scars were objectively graded on average 5.5 when viewed from the front and 7.3 when seen from the side 6 months after surgery. Complications consisted of one partial wound dehiscence (2.3%), one incidence of hypertrophic scarring (2.3%), and two cases of under-resection requiring revision (5.4%). Conclusions In select patients, surgical rejuvenation of the neck may be obtained through wave-like incisions to remove redundant cervical skin when other options are not available. The technique is reproducible, easily teachable and carries low morbidity and high patient satisfaction in carefully chosen patients.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop an improved work clothing which is much safe, comfortable, mobility and convenient than what workers currently wear at construction site. The investigation has been conducted to evaluate current work clothing to grasp any problems, discomforts and damages related to the work clothing. For the best and accurate data, hands-on investigation and a short-interview have been performed at the construction site as well as formulating a questionnaire. The questionnaires was answered by 425 workers and safety manager of 13 different construction site. The result of the questionnaire enables us to design a sample work clothing, many pa π s such as material, pattern and design have been improved. To improve the amenity of heat, the surface of a material was used by $Aerocool^{\circledR}$ fiber which contains inside dryness function. In order to absorb perspiration on the back the armpits, mesh martial that is mixture of $Coolever^{TM}$ fiber and $Mirawave^{TM}$ fiber was used to absorb perspiration in an effective manner. And a sleeve's bottom part and trousers' bottom part's cover method have been changed. Sample work clothing was shorten at the side of upper garment up to 2cm and lengthen the length of the back by 3cm. To reduce the tightness around armpit more room was given in that area. Darts were added to the elbow, the hip, and the knees that also followed an ergonomic pattern. A sample work clothing evaluated an objective assessment and subjective assessment to compare to a current work clothing. Assessment group consists of seven subject groups and nine expert groups to evaluate external appearance and adaptability to the movements. In all aspects of the test, the result of evaluation process of the sample work clothing received more positive assessment than the current work clothing.

  • The methodology of the Oriental philosophy is deductive and that of the of Occidental philosophy is inductive. Therefore study on the Oriental philosophy must start from right comprehension of fundamental premise before detailed analysis. The writer studied the meaning of the cosmology which forms the basis of Sa-sang constitutional philosophy and the propriety of visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution which forms the theoletiacal basis of Sa-sang constitutional medicine. The results are following ; 1. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma has the existent principle but don't have the side of the formative principie. 2. The cosmology of Lee jae-ma is not that searchs for the objective rule of nature but that centers around a human being by subjective understanding system. 3. The cosmology consists of four elements, that is mind(心), body(身), events(事), and nature(物). Among them mind and body means a human being, nature means the natural environment containing time and space, events means not that of nature but that of human being. 4. The mind and body as Yin-yang(陰陽) means the state which objects and self become one. 5. The mind as the Great-Absolute(太極) has the possibility of two interpretation, Firstly it means the state of the source of life which nature and human being become one, and secondly it means that the mind of a human being becomes the cosmos or the center of the cosmos. 6. In the visceral assignment by Sa-sang constitution the position of heart, the Great-Absolute in center is immanent within four viscera and the function of it is that the undifferentiated unitary organic body, after it is diffrentiated still serves as the unitary organic whole by mutual connection, adjustment, unification and supervision. 7. The Great-Absolute in center is divided into the Great-Absolute of mind and that of body. And the Great-Absolute of body consists of the heart and the system of blood vessel, that of mind means the self-consciousness(自我).

  • Objective: This study aims to develop a new desk with a built-in bookholder and desktop-mounted sliding drawer for reducing stress of seated reading postures and to analyze its effect. Background: It is general for readers to bend their back and neck when reading books on desks, which may result in high back and neck postural stress. In addition, postures using vertically layered drawers positioned at the side of users may be awkward. Method: For reducing the postural stress, a new desk with a built-in bookholder and sliding drawer was developed based on a standard of KS G 4208 for student desk. The muscle activities of reading postures on both existing and new desks were measured using EMG, in which seven male and three female college students participated. The postural stress, and musculoskeletal discomfort and ease of usage for existing and new drawers were analyzed by RULA and questionnaire survey, respectively. Results: Compared to existing desk, the muscle activity for the new desk with a bookholder was reduced by 47% when reading books. In addition, musculoskeletal discomforts in the shoulder, neck and low back were significantly lower when using the new desk with a bookholder. Although the stresses for postures using the desktop-mounted sliding drawer and general drawer were not significantly different, the questionnaire survey revealed that the new desktop-mounted sliding drawer is easier to use. Conclusion: A new desk developed in this study significantly reduced postural stress and enhanced subjective preference when reading. Application: This would be useful when developing new desks with low postural stress.

  • Objectives : This interview survey was carried out to identify how Korean medical doctors make acupuncture prescriptions for knee osteoarthritis in clinics. Methods : Survey questions were developed based on a consensus of acupuncture professors at Kyung Hee University, Dongguk University, Daegu Haany University. The interviews were conducted to 72 members of the Korea Oriental Medical Association who answered to prefer remote acupuncture prescription at previous telephone survey. Results : Korean medical doctors prefer to use five shu acupuncture points, especially 'hyung' or , 'shu' points, on the contralateral side of lesion and that the first target organ is liver. Five element points theory was mainly based on 'Nanjing' and 'Hwangdi Neijing'. The De-qi sensation of both doctor and patients was emphasized. Diagnosis and evaluation generally depend on subjective evaluation rather than objective scale. Conclusion : This study showed that Koran medical doctors prefer to follow the Korean traditional acupuncture methods respecting the old classic principles. And these results can guide us to develop advanced clinical trial protocols more close to our acupuncture practice.
