  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the abdominal muscles and to compare the activity ratios of the bilateral rectus abdominis (RA) to oblique abdominal muscles during shoulder abduction in opposite directions with single leg raising (SLR) performed in the supine position on a foam roller. Methods: Fifteen healthy subjects were recruited to the study. Each subject lay on the foam roller and performed left single leg raising with right or left shoulder $90^{\circ}$ abduction (Abd); performed in a random order. Surface EMG recordings of selected abdominal muscles (i.e., the RA, external oblique abdominis [EO], internal oblique abdominis [IO], and transverse abdominis [TrA]) were normalized to maximum voluntary isometric contraction. EO/RA and IO and TrA/RA ratios were determined with surface EMG. Data were analyzed by Independent t-test. The statistical significance level was p<0.05. Results: The results were as follows: (1) the right RA, left EO, and right IO and TrA muscle activities increased significantly at the left SLR with left Abd compared to the left SLR with right Abd (p<0.05); and (2) the ratio of right EO/RA activity increased significantly at the left SLR with right Abd compared to left Abd (p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings suggest that left SLR with left Abd on a foam roller is an appropriate exercise for activation of specific oblique abdominal muscles.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to assess the accuracy of preoperative cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), when justified for other reasons, in locating the apical foramen and establishing the working length. Materials and Methods: Six electronic databases were searched for studies on this subject. All studies, of any type, were included if they compared measurements of working length with preoperative CBCT to measurements using an electronic apex locator (EAL) or histological reference standard. Due to the high levels of heterogeneity, an inverse-variance random-effects model was chosen, and weighted mean differences were obtained with 95% confidence intervals and P values. Results: Nine studies were included. Compared to a histological reference standard, CBCT indicated that the apical foramen was on average 0.40 mm coronal of its histological position, with a mean absolute difference of 0.48 mm. Comparisons were also performed to an EAL reference standard, but the conclusions could not be considered robust due to high levels of heterogeneity in the results. Conclusion: A low level of evidence is produced suggesting that preoperative CBCT shows the apical foramen to be on average 0.40 mm coronal to its histological position, with a mean absolute difference of 0.48 mm.

  • The human resources play an important role in a hotel cooking department. The object of this study is to gain basic data for searching an effective human resources management method of cooking department in the hotel. To achieve this object, I proceeded like this. In the second chapter, I exerted myself to arrange the theoretical system on the content of the human resources management through an internal and external philological research. In the third chapter, I established conceptional research model to study factual research and three hypotheses. And I made all high-grade hotel cooking employee in Taegu and Kyung-Buk answer an questionnaire, so practiced interrelation analysis and dispersion analysis according to research hypothesis. The results are as follows. First, the result of hypothesis 1 was that three was rather a high interrelation between the human resources management factor of cooking department and its overall evaluation. Second, the result of hypothesis 2 was that three was a significant difference about the overall evaluation of cooking business management according to the position demographically. Third, the result of hypothesis 3 was that there was a significant difference according to the scholastic ability, position and the district of hotel in the demographical evaluation of human resources management factor. The limits of this study were that first, I defined the subject as the cook employee of high-grade hotel in Taegu and Kyung-Buk, second, I utilized partial variance among many variances affecting human resources management. Therefore after this study, these limits much be overcomed and multiple and scientific study must be accomplish. So human resources of cooking department in the hotel must improve more.

  • When we render 3D sound images using headphones or speakers, the main key of this technology is the Head-related transfer function (HRTF) database. Even though there are various HRTF databases, they have some drawbacks such as detrimental effects caused by imperfect measuring environment and insufficient measurement points. Moreover there is no database with Korean subjects. We are planning to develop the HRTF database for Korean. As a first step to establish the HRTF database aimed at Korean, the new HRTF measurement system with minimized aforementioned drawbacks is designed. In this paper, the newly designed HRTF measurement system is introduced and the overall effects caused by the diffraction of the apparatus, especially the headrest and backrest of the chair, are analyzed. The backrest of the chair does not distort the HRTFs significantly while the headrest makes significant distortion on the HRTFs and it could have significant effects on directional perception. We determined acceptable head rotation angle and head position of the subject for accurate HRTF measurement based on the experiments with B&K HATS. We conclude that the 3 degrees of the head rotation and the 1.5cm front/back/left/right shift of the head do not distort the HRTFs significantly.

  • Anchorage zone in prestressed concrete cable stayed bridges is very important area due to the more accurate analysis is needed to estimate the behavior. In the study, since the cable anchorage zone in the prestressed concrete cable-stayed bridge is subject to a large amount of concentrated tendon forces, it shows very complicated stress distributions and causes a serious local cracks. Accordingly, It is necessary to investigate the parameters of affecting the stress properties, such as the cable inclination, the position of anchor plate, the modeling method and the three dimensional effect. The tensile stress distribution of anchorage zone is compared to the actual design condition by varing the stiffness of spring element in the local modeling and an appropriate position of anchor plate is determined. These results would be elementary data to the stress state of anchorage zone and more efficient design.

  • In this paper, we consist of three dimensional acceleration sensor as a small-sized sensor module to acquire base technologies that need to estimate exhibition audience' moving distance. and that we developed algorism and device that can calculate acceleration in gravity direction with attaching it to people's body part without regard to three dimensional direction. By making use of the sensor module, we have to process the data that let it quantitatively process possible to measure people's walk and movement by computer system. We normalized sensor output data in the process of change from sensor module to acquisition of data, rectangular coordinates and single scalar acceleration value in gravity direction. Printed out sensor data attaching sensor module to people's body part is used for motion pattern detection after normalization, Motion sensor devised mode change algorism because it print data of other pattern according to attached position of body. For algorism design, we collected data occurring during walking about subject and we also defined occurring problem domain after analyzing the data. We settle defined problem domain and that we simulated the walking number measuring instrument with highly efficient in restricted environment.

  • Background: The myofascial release technique is known to be an effective technique for increasing posterior fascia flexibility in short hamstring syndrome (SHS) subjects. But therapeutic mechanism of myofascial relaxation remains unclear. Recently, the theory of autonomic nervous system domination has been raised, however, a proper study to test the theory has not been conducted. Objectives: To investigate whether the application of the myofascial release technique can induce changes in the autonomic nervous system and affect the secretion of stress hormones and myofascial relaxation. Design: Quasi-experimental study. Methods: Twenty-four subjects with SHS were randomly divided into two groups. In the experimental group, the suboccipital muscle inhibition (SMI) technique was applied to the subjects for 4 min in supine position, and in the control group, the subjects were lying in the supine position only. A forward flexion distance (FFD) was conducted, blood pressure, heart rate, and cortisol levels were measured before and after the intervention and 30 min after intervention to determine myofascial relaxation and stress hormone levels. The evaluation was conducted separately in blind by an evaluator. Results: A FFD decreased in the experimental group, no change in cortisol was observed. On the contrary, a decrease in cortisol appeared in the control group after 30 minutes. Conclusion: The myofascial release technique is an effective treatment to increase the range of motion through posterior superior myofascial chain, but there is no evidence that myofascial release technique can control the autonomic nervous system.

  • PURPOSE: This study was conducted to identify the effects of altering foot position on quadriceps femoris including vastus medialis obliques (VMO), vastus lateralis (VL) and rectus femoris (RF) activation during wall squat exercises. METHODS: All subjects (n = 15) were selected and randomly performed three kinds of wall squats: 1) GWS (General Wall Squat), 2) WSS1/4 (Wall Squat Short 1/4), and 3) WSS1/2 (Wall Squat Short 1/2). Each subject completed all three kinds of wall squatting exercises at three different times and recorded the muscle activity data of vastus medialis obliques, vastus lateralis and rectus femoris. RESULTS: Compared with GWS exercise, VMO and RF muscle activity significantly increased under WSS1/2 exercise (p < .05), while only RF muscle activity significantly increased under WSS1/4 exercise (p < .05). CONCLUSION: The results of the present study indicate that moving the foot toward the wall during wall squats has a positive effect on quadriceps activation. The exercise of wall squat short can not only be used as the lower limb muscle strengthening training for normal people, but also as the recovery training for patellofemoral pain syndrome patients in the rehabilitation stage. Besides, Anterior cruciate ligament patients can also try this exercise according to the advice of doctors and therapists.
