  • 본 연구는 3차원 삼각 메쉬의 기하 데이터 압축을 위해 지역 좌표계를 이용한 알고리즘을 소개한다. 기존의 지역 좌표계를 이용한 기하 데이터 처리 방식은 전역 좌표계를 이용한 방식에 비해 높은 압축률을 보여준다. 하지만, 각 메쉬에 적합한 지역 좌표계 3개의 축에 대한 양자화 수(quantization number)를 결정하는 어려움 때문에 실용성 측면에서 문제가 있다. 본 연구에서 새로 제안하는 지역 좌표계를 이용한 방법은 지역 좌표계 안에서 점의 위치를 기술할 때에 오직 분할 깊이(subdivision level)만을 필요로 한다. 분할 깊이 값을 크게 할수록 점의 위치를 정확하게 기술할 수 있다. 본 연구는 보다 정밀한 점 위치의 기술을 위해 $16(2{\times}2{\times}2{\times}4)$개의 subcell을 갖는 균일하지 않은 분할을 가지고 실험을 하였다. 본 연구의 새로운 압축/압축해제기는 기존 기하 데이터 압축과 비슷한 효율성을 유지하면서 실용성 면에서 중요한 압축률과 왜곡간의 제어를 직관적이고 단순하게 할 수 있도록 한다.

Energy Generation Coupled to Azoreduction by Membranous Vesicles from Shewanella decolorationis S12

  • Previous studies have demonstrated that Shewanella decolorationis S12 can grow on the azo compound amaranth as the sole electron acceptor. Thus, to explore the mechanism of energy generation in this metabolism, membranous vesicles (MVs) were prepared and the mechanism of energy generation was investigated. The membrane, which was fragmentized during preparation, automatically formed vesicles ranging from 37.5-112.5 nm in diameter under electron micrograph observation. Energy was conserved when coupling the azoreduction by the MVs of an azo compound or Fe(III) as the sole electron acceptor with $H_2$, formate, or lactate as the electron donor. The amaranth reduction by the vesicles was found to be inhibited by specific respiratory inhibitors, including $Cu^{2+}$ ions, dicumarol, stigmatellin, and metyrapone, indicating that the azoreduction was indeed a respiration reaction. This finding was further confirmed by the fact that the ATP synthesis was repressed by the ATPase inhibitor N,N'-dicyclohexylcarbodiimide (DCCD). Therefore, this study offers solid evidence of a mechanism of microbial dissimilatory azoreduction on a subcell level.

Analysis of the Stepped-Impedance Low Pass Filter using Sub-Gridding Finite-Difference Time-Domain Method (서브 그리딩 유한 차분 시간 영역법을 이용한 계단형 임피던스 저역 통과 필터 해석)

  • One of the dominant aspects governing the accuracy of the FDTD method is the size of the spatial increment used in the model. The effect of having reduced cell size is to increase the computational time and memory requirements. To overcome these problems, sub-gridding technique can be used. This implies that the application of a sub-grid cell would provide improved accuracy without increasing the run time and computer resources considerably. In this paper, we describe the three dimensional sub-gridding technique that is applied to model only the fine structure region of interest. The detailed solution procedure is described and some test geometries were solved by both uniform grid and sub-grid models to validate the suggested approach. While keeping the accuracy, the computational time becomes 6 times faster and the memory requirement is reduced by a factor of 2.5 comparing to the conventional FDTD approach.

Mitochondria Hypothesis on the Obesity-Prone Tendency in Tae-Eum People (태음인의 비만경향에 대한 미토콘드리아 가설)

  • It has been suggested that Tae-Eum peoples are prone to obesity. Although extensive clinical observations have shown this tendency in Sasang Constitutional Medicine (SCM), no scientific hypothesis has been proposed to delineate its mechanism. According to SCM theory, Tae-Eum peoples have a hypoactive lung system and a hyperactive liver system. In this paper we propose a new hypothesis explaining the tendency of obesity in Tae-Eum people in the viewpoint of cell physiology. The hypoactive lung system might imply an attenuated 'respiration' at the cell/subcell level, namely mitochondrial oxygen consumption. Because a functional weakness in mitochondria energy metabolism indicates intrinsic hypo-activity in the consumption (or production) of metabolic energy, we deduced that the tendency can easily induce body weight gain via an increase in anabolism. This relation is also introduced in the graph of cellular metabolic power against body weight. To test this hypothesis, we analyzed the clinical data with 863 subjects. Statistical analysis of the data showed that Tae-Eum peoples had relatively a lower cellular metabolic power, and that the percentage of peoples with BMI>25 was significantly higher than that of the other constitutional types.

Study on the Characteristics of GaInP/AlGaInP Heterojunction Photovoltaic Cells under Concentrated Illumination (집광 조건에서의 GaInP/AlGaInP 이종접합 구조 태양전지 특성 연구)

  • The feasibility of replacing the tope cell of pn GaInP homojunction with our GaInP/AlGaInP heterojunction structure in III-V semiconductor multijunction photovoltaic (MJPV) cells having the highest current conversion efficiency was investigated. The performance of photovoltaic (PV) cells grown on $2^{\circ}$ and $10^{\circ}$ off-oriented GaAs substrates were compared to each other. The PV cells on the $10^{\circ}$ off-cut substrate showed higher short-circuit current density ($J_{sc}$) and conversion efficiency values than that of using the $2^{\circ}$ one. For $2{\times}2mm^2$ area PV cell on $10^{\circ}$ off substrate, the $J_{sc}$ of $9.21mA/cm^2$ and the open-circuit voltage of 1.38 V were measured under 1 sun illumination. For $5{\times}5mm^2$ cell on $10^{\circ}$ off substrate, the conversion efficiency was decreased from 6.03% (1 sun) to 5.28% (20 sun) due to a decrease in fiill factor (FF).

New data on Phase Relations in the System Cu-Fe-Sn-S (4성분계 Cu-Fe-Sn-S의 상관관계에 대한 새로운 데이터)

  • Two solid solution-type phases has been experimentally found in the quaternary system Cu-Fe-Sn-S:$(Fe, Cu, Sn)_{1+x}$ and $Cu_{2-x}Fe_(1+x}SnS_4$. These solid solutions are stable around the CuS-FeS-SnS referecne plane in the composition tetrahedron. One is the sphalerite-type monosulfide solid solution which has a extensive stability range with varying degrees of sulfur/metal ratio 9.7-1.0/1.0. The other is tetrahedrite-type phase $Cu_{2-y)Fe_{1+y}SnS_4(y_{max}=0.4)$ which is stable along the $Cu_2FeSnS_4-FeS$ tie line, but shows no phase transformation in the subsolidus range and decomposes incongruently at the range of 835-862${\circ}C$, depending on the compositional variation. Particularly, the latter phase shows the characteristic superstructure reflections, indicating that it is a derivative of sphalerite structure. The stability field of these two sphalerite-type phases are defined on the basis of diffraction pattern and optical homogeneity of the synthetic materials at the temperature range of 700-400${\circ}C$.
