  • In this paper, the resource allocation problem with proportional fairness rate in cognitive OFDM-based wireless network is studied. It aims to maximize the total system throughput subject to constraints that include total transmit power for secondary users, maximum tolerable interferences of primary users, bit error rate, and proportional fairness rate among secondary users. It is a nonlinear optimization problem, for which obtaining the optimal solution is known to be NP-hard. An efficient bio-inspired suboptimal algorithm called immune clonal optimization is proposed to solve the resource allocation problem in two steps. That is, subcarriers are firstly allocated to secondary users assuming equal power assignment and then the power allocation is performed with an improved immune clonal algorithm. Suitable immune operators such as matrix encoding and adaptive mutation are designed for resource allocation problem. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm achieves near-optimal throughput and more satisfying proportional fairness rate among secondary users with lower computational complexity.

  • A resource allocation algorithm based on simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) to maximize the system throughput is proposed in orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) relay networks. The algorithm formulates the problem under the peak power constraints of the source and each subcarrier (SC), and the energy causality constraint of the relay. With the given SC allocation of the source, we give and prove the optimal propositions of the formulated problem. Then, the formulated problem could be decomposed into two separate throughput maximization sub-problems by setting the total power to transfer energy. Finally, several SC allocation schemes are proposed, which are energy priority scheme, information priority scheme, balanced allocation scheme and exhaustive scheme. The simulation results reveal that the energy priority scheme can significantly reduce computational complexity and achieve approximate performance with the exhaustive scheme.

  • This paper demonstrates OFDM with adaptive modulation applied to Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) systems. We apply an optimization algorithm to obtain a bit and power allocation for each subcarrier assuming instantaneous channel knowledge. The analysis and simulation is considered in two stages. The first stage involves the application of a variable-rate variable-power MQAM technique for a Single-Input Single-Output(SISO) OFDM system. This is compared with the performance of fixed OFDM transmission where a constant rate is applied to each subcarrier. The second stage applies adaptive modulation to a general MIMO system by making use of the Singular Value Decomposition to separate the MIMO channel into parallel subchannels. For a two-input antenna, two-output antenna system, the performance is compared with the performance of a system using selection diversity at the transmitter and maximal ratio combining at the receiver.

  • This paper considers a downlink multi-carrier cooperative non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) transmission, where no direct link exists between the far user and the base station (BS), and the communication between them only relies on the assist of the near user. Firstly, the BS sends a superimposed signal of the far and the near user to the near user, and then the near user adopts simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) to split the received superimposed signal into two portions for energy harvesting and information decoding respectively. Afterwards, the near user forwards the signal of the far user by utilizing the harvested energy. A minimum data is required to ensure the quality of service (QoS) of the far user. We jointly optimize power allocation, subcarrier allocation, time allocation, the power allocation (PA) coefficient and the power splitting (PS) ratio to maximize the number of data bits received at the near user under the energy causality constraint, the minimum data constraint and the transmission power constraint. The block-coordinate descent method and the Lagrange duality method are used to obtain a suboptimal solution of this optimization problem. In the final simulation results, the superiority of the proposed NOMA scheme is confirmed compared with the benchmark NOMA schemes and the orthogonal multiple access (OMA) scheme.

  • Start after striking space key 2 times. Lately, a lot of researches have been done on the resource allocation for multiuser OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) systems due to its spectral efficiency for high-rate multimedia data services. For multimedia services in which every user is guaranteed to have minimum required bit rate and bit error probability, it is critical to utilize the limited resources efficiently to improve the performance of the system. The introduced allocation method improves spectral efficiency to use the left subcarriers in Zhang's algorithm. By using this method, the system can provide services to more users constantly, except for a bit increasing complexity and memory for deciding the left subcarriers and reallocating the subcarriers.

  • In this paper, we explore a low-complex bandwidth allocation (BA) scheme with multi-level service guarantees in VLC-OFDM systems. Effective capacity theory, which evaluates wireless channel capacity from a novel view, is utilized to model the system capacity under delay QoS constraints of the link layer. Since intensity modulation of light is used in the system, problems caused by frequency selectivity can be neglected. Then, the BA problem can be formulated as an integer programming problem and it is further relaxed and transformed into a concave one. Lagrangian formulation is used to reformulate the concave problem. Considering the inefficiency of traditional gradient-based schemes and the demand for distributed implementation in local area networks, we localize the global parameters and propose a quasi-distributed quadratic allocation algorithm to provide two-level service guarantees, the first level is QoS oriented, and the second level is QoE oriented. Simulations have shown the efficient performance of the proposed algorithm. The users with more stringent QoS requirements require more subcarriers to guarantee their statistical delay QoS requirements. We also analyze the effect of subcarrier granularity on the aggregate effective capacity via simulations.

  • With the explosivley increasing demand in wireless telecommunication service, the shortage of radio spectrum has been worsen. The traditional approach of the current fixed spectrum allocation leads to spectrum underutilization. Recently, CR (Cognitive Radio) technologies are proposed to enhance the spectrum utilization by allocating dynamically radio resources to CR Networks. In this study, we consider a radio resource(power, subcarrier) allocation problem for OFDMA-based CRN in which a base station supports a variety of CUs (CRN Users) while avoiding the radio interference to PRN (Primary Radio Network). The problem is mathematically formulated as a general 0-1 IP problem. The optimal solution method for the IP problem requires an unrealistic execution time due to its complexity. Therefore, we propose an heuristic that gives an approximate solution within a reasonable execution time.

  • In this thesis, we analyze performance related to reduction scheme of inter-cell interference causing serious problems in portable internet system. Frequency reusing factor(FUF) is 1 in portable internet system, and it means that a adjacent cell uses same frequency band. This channel environment raises inter-cell interference problem, which provokes serious problems related to system performance and channel capacity. Consequently, it affects deterioration in system performance as a whole. We analyze inter-cell interference when appling a various schemes such as (DCA)Dynamic Channel Allocation, CS(Channel Segregation), IDMA(Interleave Division Multiple Access), FH-OFDM, CRSA(Conceptual Random Subcarrier Allocation), and HDD

  • A constant envelope multiplexing via constellation tailoring scheme is proposed for flexible power allocation of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) signals. The proposed scheme is compared with the coherent adaptive subcarrier modulation (CASM) adopted in the L1 band signals of the Global Positioning System (GPS) in terms of power difference and power loss. Analysis of the constellation optimization results on the power difference and power loss show that the proposed scheme outperforms the CASM of the GPS signals in the allowable power difference of less than 0.1 dB.
